Advoc t•,• i1i vimb.r 26, 1900 Mohawks lose to .Sherwoods The Exeter Mohawks beset by injuries came up With a fine game Thursday btit lost 8.6 to the fiensall Sherwoods at the South Rum Ree Centre. Leading goal-getters in the game were Luc Gagon of the Mohawks and Steve Knight for Hensel'. Both players picked up a pair of goals. The Mohawks next game is Thursday at home when they take on the Centralia College of Agricultural Technology Saints. Exeter hit the score sheet first with only 38 seconds gone in the game when Gagnon took passes from Dan Webb and Wayne Par- setts and fired a shot past Sherwood goalie Dave Exeter's minor hockey teams had a comparatively quiet week, playing in only Rensall came back to score the next two goals of the game less than six minutes later with Gary Kyle and. Knight finding the range. Janne Caldwell assisted on both goals and Riek Ingram had an assist on the Knight goal. The Mohawks came back to tie the game two minutes later on the strength of an unassisted goal by Gagnon. Goals by Caldwell and Knight saw the visitors head into the second period with a two goal lead. Assisting on the Caldwell goal were Ingram and Kyle. Ingram and Greg Campbell picked up the assists on the other liensall score. In the second frame the Sherwoods stretched their lead to four goals with two Shamrock league games. They posted wins in both, as the novice shaded scores by Ingram. and Ai Bell. Caldwell -and Kyle had the .assists, The final goal of the period came from the .stick of .,Mohawk Wayne Parsons Who had. help fr.= Gagnon and Dan Webb. The third period saw E. eter strike for two quick goals to put themselves back into the game, At the 7:36 mark Brion Penhale took a pass from Jim Guenther and fired a shot past HolmeS. Less than 50 seconds later Guenther picked up a goal of his own with assistance from Gagnon, Hensall scored. their final two goals of the game from the sticks of Caldwell and Lloyd Allan. Dwight Consitt,. Dave Kinsman, Gerrard Masse and Jim Ferguson had the assists. With 43 Seconds remaining to be played Exeter scored the final goal of the game on an effort by Dave Jackson from Randy Gilrillan and Ron. Moore, The Exeter Pizza Train Express hantaims scored their first victory of the year in the new Huron county hockey house league Friday as they defeated Seaforth 4- 1, After Seaforth scored their goal fn the first period, the Express came roaring back with four unanswered goals in the second period. Al Ppm was the top goal scorer for Exeter with a pair of successful shots, Assisting Pym were Andy Lerikos and Sean Marios. John McDermid scored the third Exeter goal on a solo effort and Scott Baptist registered on a pass from John McDermid. Hodgins is top trainer The top trainers and drivers for the 1980 harness racing season at the Goderich and Clinton tracks were honoured at a banquet in Exeter Wednesday night. The presentations were made at the Four Way Inn with Chris Bradford of Cook's Division of Gerbro and John Bowman of Master Feeds in charge. Art Hodgins of Clandeboye was the leading trainer for the month of July and also took overall honours for the two months of racing at the two area tracks. Fred Sadler of. Parkhill trained the most winning horses and finished in fourth place in the overall stan- dings. In addition to Hodgins and Sadler, John Muir of Sea forth was second follow- ed by Ron Swartz, Cen- tralia; Wayne Horner, Clin- ton; Randy Henry, Goderich; Walter Oster, Clinton; Jean Feagan, Goderich; Les Campbell, Seaforth; and Walter Luzak, Mildmay. Blankets, halters, hats, toques and gift vouchers from Cook's were presented to the various winners. Robbie McLelland and Alan Blommaert scored for the novice crew who ran their unbeaten streak to three games with the win on Parkhill ice. Jon O'Connor scored four times to pace the atoms to their one-sided win over Ilderton at the rec cen- tre.Scott Boyd added three goals to the cause and Doug Clark had a pair. Getting the single was Rob McKnight. In an exhibition game, Friday, the atoms dropped a 6-1 verdict to Lambeth on the latter's ice. O'Connor scored Exeter's lone goal. Midgets get split The only other crew to see action were the midgets, who split a pair of exhibition games. Saturday night, they clipped Strathroy 5-1 and then dropped a 3-0 verdict to Lambeth, Sunday.Both games were on the road. Scott Brintnell paced the win over Strathroy with two goals and the singles were fired by Mike Clark, Dave Underwood and Mark Vandergunst. Underwood assisted on four tallies, Clark had two and adding one each were Paul Smale and Dave Hayter. Effective immediately, Mr. 'Lucas will assume total hockey school ad- ministration and program development responsibilities of American and Canadian Huron Hockey School locations. Mr. Gilmour states the appointment is a direct result of Huron's expanding hockey school program and related hockey service projects. Shaune Lucas originally from Napanee, Ontario, is a graduate of Durham College's Sports Administration Program, in Oshawa, Ontario. During academic study in Oshawa, Shaune worked for the Ontario Hockey Association, Pts Technical Office, (now 14 Hockey Ontario), as an 8 Administrative Assistant. 8 Prior to joining Huron 5 Hockey School Shaune 1 worked for the Ontario Sports Administrative Centre and Ministry of Culture and Recreation, Recreational Services Unit, both in a sports ad- ministration capacity.
