If you live with a dog, you
don't mind cooking, because
you know that someone will
always be grateful to eat the
leftovers that everyone else
has turned down.
If you have a dog at your
house, you know that
someone will always be
happy to see you when you
come home from work. In
fact, a dog is thrilled just
when you say good morning
to him.
If you have a dog, you'll
always have somebody to
come and look up at you with
his big brown eyes and
sympathize with you when
you're feeling depressed.
And he'll try his best to cheer
you up by putting out his paw
to shake hands and say he's
your best friend.
If you live with a dog, your
spelling improves. You
learn to spell out sentences
like "Do you think we should
take him for a walk?" or
"Are you taking the car?"
And most important — if
you live with a dog, and your
dog has a tail, you will never,
never have a dusty coffee
table.

Mary's
musings
BY MARY ALDERSON
A friend phoned me the
other day to tell me she had a
new puppy. She was very
excited about her fuzzy black
bundle of joy. Unfortunately,
a I don't think she, realizes
how sharing a home with a
dog can change your life
style,
Notice that I call it
"sharing your home with a
dog" — I don't think you ever
own a dogallaving lived with
a dog for over a year now, I
think I should point out a few
things to the people who have
just brought home cute tiny
puppies,
The first shocker is that
they don't stay small very
long. Overnight the little
pups that you could pick up
with one hand, grow into 60
pound clumsy dogs.
Housework becomes much
more difficult when you live
with a dog, You never have
shiny waxed floors again.
Once the puppy gets over the
stage where he leaves a trail
of puddles wherever he goes,
he starts leaving a trail of
muddy footprints. Your
carpeting is always covered
with dog hair, Dogs enjoy
following around vacuum
cleaners and rolling on the
carpet, just as the vacuum
is returned to the closet.
Making a bed is very
difficult when there's a dog
around. the dog thinks he's
very cute when he lays on his
back on the bed with all four
legs in the air, hoping you'll
throw the 'blankets over him.
As soon as you drag the 60
pounds of wagging tail, to the
floor, he jumps right back
up.
Cooking becomes very
difficult, when there's a
black nose twitching at your
elbow.
When you live with a dog,
it usually becomes im-
possible to wear white pants.
Dogs like to jump up and
give you a friendly greeting
but only when you wear
white pants.
It is very hard to go for a
car ride with a dog, And
usually if a car door is open a
dog will jump in. If you have
a passenger he will sit on the
passenger's knee. If you
don't., he will sit on .your
knee, Seeing the road and
steering sometimes becomes
difficult behind a panting
dog.
When there's as dog in
your house, you can't say the
word WALK without the dog
wagging his tail off, yipping
and jumping up and down.
If the dog has a tail, it is
impossible to put knick-
knacks on your coffee table.
One wag and figurines go
crashing to the floor,
two wags and all the leaves
are off the ivy.
However, if you don't
share your home with a dog,
you won't know the
