"The PoWer of Music" was read by Jeanette and the "Chorus of the Birds" was read by Mary, • Throughout the program several favorite hymns were sung with Leila Finkbeiner playing the piano. Jeanette closed in prayer. Jean Neil opened the business with a prayer and a few words of welcome. The roll call was answered and the minutes and treasurer's report approved. The 'Church in Society reported the bale was to be packed on Friday. A reminder was given to the ladies to save used eards, glasses, nylons and stamps. Marie Fydenchuk read a letter about the poor sharing their meager meals with others in South East Asia. The election of officers was accepted as reported by the nominating committee. Thorton Granton, Charlie Mortley Zurich. The Crediton and District Social Club held their draw Friday evening as a climax to the Monte Carlo night. Winners were: Doug Members of Hurpn- Middlesex NDP riding association gathered at the Clinton Public School on Thursday, Octobei 30, Five new resolutions were passed by the membership, The film "Shutdown" dealing with, gent closures was shown. A new president, Paul Carroll, and new vice- president, Tony McQuail were elected. A resolution on Bell exchanges. Situations exist where neighbburs are charg- ed long distance rates. Some rural residents may 'find their nearest hospital, town, post office and local services are all long distance. The resolution calls for each ex- change to have free dialing to all adjoining exchanges. Foreign land ownership was the next issue dealt with by resolution. Absentee cor- porate purchasing of Ontario farmland is having a serious and detrimental impact on- our rural communities. This has serious implications on who control our food land resources and food produc- tion. Immediate restrictions should be placed to prevent absentee and foreign ownership of Ontario farmland. A time limit should be imposed for pre- sent absentee and corporate land owners to divest their holdings. Another resolution states that the preservation of the Ontario Health Insurance Plan should be top priority. Action by the medical association and the opting- out of the plan by doctors are threatening' health care in the province. The next resolution refers to the government aiding failing companies and cor- porations. The government The annual meeting of District 8, Association of Agricultural Societies, for Huron-Perth was held in Brussels Thursday with over 100 persons in attendance. Bruce McCall, Brussels was guest speaker and Graeme Craig, Walton, provided entertainment. The executive for the next two years was introduced as: District Director-Keith The Hensall Legion auxiliary met on Tuesday evening with the president Mrs. Beatrics Uyl presiding. The children's Christmas party will be held on December 14. Plans were made for Christmas gifts for members and veteran's at Westminster Hospital. The money doll will be featured again this year. Plans were made to cater tt) weddings in the future. The members will have an exchange of Christmas gifts at their next meeting. Bingo was played followed by lunch. Chiselhurst UCW On Tuesday Chiselhurst UCW opened their monthly meeting by singing the theme song and repeating the prayer. The president Mrs. Jack Brintnell presided. Mrs. Jack Upshall con- ducted the Remembrance Worship service. "Onward ChriStian Soldiers, Faith of Our Fathers and 0 Canada" was sung. Mrs. Beatrice Munn, Mrs. Freda Boa, Mrs. Ted Roberts and Mrs. Dorothy Brintnell assisted Mrs. Upshall. The roll call was answered by fourteen members and one visitor repeating the ten Com- mandments. The treasurer reported a very successful bazaar. Three members attended a workshop at Greenway and enjoyed a most informative afternoon. Members were reminded of the United Church bazaar at Exeter November 15. The Church supper will be held on November 25th. A thank you note was received from the Riley family. The film details the plight of workers who are being laid off as plants are closed and losing their pensions after 30 years or more of work. Although th:e Ontario plant was profitable the company could not close its un- profitable plants in France or Mexico because of legisla- tion in. those countries. On- tario has no such legislation to protect workers. On Saturday, November 1, Gwen 'Pemberton, Bayfield, Fran McQuail, Lucknow and Valerie Bolton, Belgrave, members of the Huron- Middlesex NDP attended a joint meeting with Huron- Bruce, Grey-Bruce and Grey NDP in Walkerton. The Ontario NDP is moun- ting a Province wide membership drive. Huron- Middlesex will participate in this drive. Some door to door canvassing will begin by November 22, 1980. Details on membership with, the NDP can be ob- tained by writing Valerie Bolton, Secretary, Huron- Middlesek NDP, R.R. 1, Belgrave, Ontario NOG 1E0. Anna-Rae Fishman from the Ontario NDP provincial office explained the plans for the province wide membership drive.
