Clipped by Mitchell
Although losing by a 5-4
count in Mitchell, l'uesday,
the local Hawks showed
signs of the form which had
fans optimistic at the outset
of the season. Perhaps more
than coincidentally, it
marked the return to the
lineup of Randy Parsons,,
who sat out last year with a
knee injury,
Parstms made his
presence felt with his usual
determined checking and he
contributed one goal and an,
assist in the losing cause,
Mitchell opened the
scoring and were never
headed, although Exeter
rebounded to tie the game on
two occasions. The game
was knotted at 4-4 as Preston
Dearing scored at the 7:44
mark of the final frame; but
the home team came back in
just over a minute to get the
winner then they jumped on
an errant clearing play by
the Exeter defence.
Adding goals in addition to
Parsons and Dearing were
Ken Varley and Bryan
Baker. Brian Mercer •helped
out on two goals and ,single
assists went to Dearing,
Parsons, Varley, Doug
Brooks and Dave Atthill.
Two Exeter goals came on
power plays and Mitchell
replied with one in a game
that saw 21 penalties, 11 to
the home team.
Steve Wells recorded 27
stops for Exeter and Mike
MacDonald turned aside 38
at the other end as the locals
enjoyed a slight margin in
territorial play.
