For the third consecutive
year East Williams
Memorial Public School has-
proved tops in Middlesex
County. Wednesday, the
school once again captured
the cross country cham-
pionship at the annual meet.
Competing against 22
other schools, East Williams
proved to be the county
champs at Sknadot Con-
servation Area.
Approximately 750 runners
took part in the event.
East Williams students
took first in the boys 11 and
under division with Jason
Macdonald placing 2nd,
Richard Engel 3rd, Chris
Gillies, 5th, Robbie
McGregor 6th. . They also
placed first in the girls 11
and under division with
In the Boys' 12 and over
division the school placed 5th
With Brent Martin taking
first place and Kirk Camp-
bell 9th. They also placed 5th
in the Girls 12 and over
division with Susan Ingham
taking 7th place and Joanne
McMillan taking 13th.
Each of the runners
covered a 2600 metre
distance with the boys 12 and
over running 3600 metres.
Throughout the past five
years East Williams School
has won 4 out of 5 county
competitions, as well as
taking all seven of the in-
vitational meets held this
fall.

praised the area members,
and the membership at large
for all the worthwhile work
they were involved with,
There was a large number
of handicraft' articles on
display. Entertainment was

Williams Trio, Mrs. Clarence
Lewis of Granton WI was
elected 2nd vice-president of
the London area. •.

Summers all members of the
executive of the Lucan
Biddulph Cancer Society,
attended the annual meeting
of the London Middlesex
Unit on Wednesday at the
Ivanhoe , Restaurant in
London.
The guest speaker was Dr.
A.B. Miller Epidemiologist,
with the Canadian Cancer
Institute of Research at
Princess Margaret Hospital
Toronto.
Speaking on screening for
breast cancer, Dr. Miller
told his audience that a
group of women were taking
part in a four year study,
sponsored by the Institute,
this includes women in all
age groups. Uking a
method called mamography
which is X-ray treatment,
they hope to be able to detect
cancer at an early stage, and
so prevent many lives being
lost to breast cancer.
Radiation used in
mamography is less than
that used in a chest X-ray,
said Dr. Miller. He also
• mentioned he would like to
see a clinical study on breast
cancer started here in
London.

The Granton cubs enjoyed
a Hallowe'en party with
their leaders, members of
the group committee, and
parents. Following, a
costume parade, a ghost
story and a sing-song
everyone was taken on tour
of the scouts "Haunted
House",
The lunch was put on, by
the Mothers Auxiliary and
there were. treats for all,
There will be an in-
vestiture for the cubs on
Tuesday evening November.

Hallowe'en party on October
29 in the United Church
basement, First of all
everyone was taken on a'tour
of the . Scouts Haunted Muse,
and then the girls invited the
Scouts to return to the
church with them for fun and
games. Most were in
costumes.
.The roorri was decorated
with a Hallowe'en theme.
Refreshments were enjoyed
at the conclusion of the
party.

The Beavers are a
relatively new division of the
Boy Scout Association. It
began on an experimentally
basis in 1971 for boys 5 to 7
years and officially began in
1974 on a national level. The
Ailsa Craig group is the 14th
colony in operation in the
Huron District, and meets
regularly each Tuesday, 4-
5:30 p.m. at the Ailsa Craig
United Church.
Following the Investure
