Fair groups hold session The annual meeting of District 8, Association of Agricultural Societies, for Huron-Perth was held in Brussels Thursday with over 100 in attendance. Bruce McCall from Brussels was guest speaker and Graeme Craig, Walton, provided entertainment. The executive for the next two years was introduced as: district director-Keith McLagan, Mitchell; secretary-treasurer-Donald Young, Auburn; Harold Lobb, Clinton, as the retiring director. Dolores Shapton, Exerer, is the director of the Ladies Division who will be assisted by Maxine Sereda, Exeter, as her secretary. The 1981 Annual Meeting will be held in Mitchell hosted by Mitchell Agricultural Society. Mrs,. Lloyd. Miller presided opening with the Institute. Ode and. Mary Stewart. Officers elected Property damage resulting from fires respond- ed to by the Exeter & Area Fire Department reached $562,371 in the past year, a decrease of close to 40 per- cent over the previous year, according to Fire Chief Gary Middleton. In his annual report, Middleton said there were 29 alarms in the territory covered by the brigade. Ex- eter had 14 responses, Usborne 10, Hay four and Stephen one. There were three major barn fires constituting the majority of the property loss. A total of 932 hours were spent at the fire scenes with two firefighters sustaining injuries. Another 46 hours were spent on rescue and 973 man hours at practice. He explained the different services offered to the customer by the Bank of Commerce, the different year, many other activities such as the Pancake Breakfast and Open House saw 530 people enjoy a wonderful morning starter. Eight different groups took part in evening courses at the Fire Station on fire prevention in the home, farm and for babysitting with 198 participating. A number of the firemen attended C.P.R. and Arson- courses as well as excellent attendance by this depart- ment at the monthly Huron County Mutual Aid meetings. The total yearly payroll for the 25 man force is $23,- 369.18. At the last meeting in Oc- tober, elections were held to fill the 2-year terms of the Exeter Fire Fighters Association. The Association elected as follows for the session and luncheon. Leslie Harrison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Harrison of this community was one of two girls receiving the Maryn Pardy Memorial Scholarship award. The presentation was made during the banquet, Monday evening, at which Leslie and her mother were special guests. Congratulations! Leslie. Personals Mrs, Janice Adkins of Winnipeg arrived on Sunday to attend the funeral of her brother, Alton Neil. The sympathy of the community is extended the Neil families. Mrs. and Mrs. Ray Ruston, St. Marys were Sunday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Art Hodgins. Lewis and Elnora Raycraft spent a few days last week with relatives near Port Huron, Michigan. Nathan and Jessie Stahl, children of Nancy and Michael Stahl, London, spent a few days with their grandparents, Eleanor and Dave Kestle, while their mother was in hospital with a new baby brother, Mark. Hazel Williams and Jean Hodgins participated in the Craft Show in Lucan on Saturday. Gwen Lynn and Aggie Groeriewegen had several beautiful quilts on display in the show. an eight day lied carpet bus tour, travelling to Adelaide where they visited with Captain Murray Haines, his wife and son, Murray is a navigator with the Air Force Division of the Armed.
