AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT
ONTARIO PROPERTY TAX GRANTS
Waiting For Your Grant?
• If you sent in your Property Tax Grant application but haven't
received your grant, please be patient. Many of the applications
which contained incomplete information or arrived late because of
postal disruptions are still being processed. IT'S NOT
NECESSARY TO CALL ABOUT YOUR GRANT. A large number
of seniors have already been contacted in this regard. The
remainder will be contacted or have their grants paid by
NOVEMBER 30, 1980.
Turning 65?
• If you reached or will reach age 65 between July 1 and December
31, 1980 and are just becoming eligible for the Old Age Security
Pension, you may be eligible for Ontario Tax Grants for all of 1980.
Property Tax Grant applications and Sales Tax Grants will be
AUTOMATICALLY mailed to you BY JANUARY 1981.
Not. Eligible for OAS?
• If you are a senior who has not resided in Canada long enough to
qualify for the Old Age Security Pension, you may still be eligible for
these grants. You should contact the Ministry of Revenue as soon
as possible for an eligibility form.
Reminder
• If your principal residence throughout 1980 is a nursing home,
home for the aged, chronic care facility, charitable institution, home
for special care or other similar institution, you are not eligible for
the grant unless the institution in which you reside pays municipal
and school taxes and your rent payments are not government
subsidized.
Applications for the 1980 grant can be submitted any time before

White bean payments
JACK RIDDELL
Farmers have been asking,
when they might expect the
balance of payment for the
1977 white bean production..
Examinations for DiscoverY
are still being conducted and
unless a settlement can be
negotiated with the dealers,
the final decision will rest
with the Courts.
The Ontario Bean
'Producers Marketing Board
will be making a statement
on this matter, prior to the
Regional Annual Meeting
and more information can be
obtained at this time.
The meeting for Hurop
County Bean. Producers will
be held in the Hensall Arena,
on Friday, November 28, and
the meeting for the Mid-
dlesex Bean Producers, will
be held at the Ilderton
Masonic Hall, On Tuesday,
December 2.
Last March I asked the
Minister of Agriculture and
Food, if he would be
prepared to amend
legislation which would give
the Egg Producers
Marketing Board, authority
to use the levy money to pay
the egg producers who
suffered loss from the
bankruptcy of Whyte Plant
in Burlington.
I am pleased to announce
that amendments have been
made to the Farm Products
Payment Act and such
amendments should come
into the Legislature for
debate within the very near
future,
When the amendments are
passed the Egg Producers
Marketing Board will be able
to pay the producers who
shipped eggs to the Whyte
Plant for which they did not
receive payment. Hopefully,
these egg producers will
receive payment prior to the
New Year.
An Agricultural
Management Resource
Centre, has been established
by the Minister of
Agriculture and Food. This
Centre will act as a focal
point for directing and co.
ordinating information and
activities, regarding
development of new thrust in
alternate energy sources for
agriculture.
One of the programs that
will be developed by the
Centre is the Ethanol
(alcohol) Production Grant
program. This is a new
incentive grant program to
assist farmers who wish to
install ethanol stills on their
farm for evaluation
demonstration and trial use
of alcohol as a fuel.
The purpose of the
program is to establish and
evaluate the use of ethanol
under practical conditions.
for Ontario agriculture,
Information is needed on
such things as technology,
•use of feedstocks and end
products, and energy costs.
Some details of the
program are as follows:
Forty percent of total cost
of installation up to a
maximum grant of $15,000
per farm or forty percent of
the total cost to a maximum
of $20,000 for a community
installation (installation
includes cost of labour,
construction, equipment and
monitoring devices).
The grant is available
from August 1st, 1980, to
March 31st, 1981. No special
application form is required
but a summary of facts
supporting the feasibility of
the project will be required.
Grants will be available
when projects are completed
for operation. Further 'in-
formation regarding this
program can be obtained
from the local Ministry of
Agriculture and Food Office.
The Ontario Government
will spend $165 million over
the next five years to help
make Canada selt:sufficient
in energy by 1990. It will
spend $50 million to develop
solar energy and another $75
million to develop alter-
native fuels for gasoline in
transportation. The energy
program should reduce
Ontario's oil consumption by
1995 to a level that is $23
million barrels below
present consumption.
The Province will spend
$12 million to help. schools,.

Ontario Hospitals expect a
deficit by the end of fiscal
year, 'hospital spokesmen
have indicated that they're,
confident the: Minister of
Health, Mr, Dennis Thnbrell
will come up with most of the
money.
According to. the President
of the Ontario Hospital
Association, the Minister has
stated that any hospital in a
deficit position may seek
appeal of its approved
budget ceiling, and the
Ministry of Health will pay
"legitimate costs of ap-
proved programs". Only 11
Of the 200 hospitals surveyed
said their over-budget costs
resulted from programs set
up without Ministry ap-
proval.„
Hospital officials contend
that a key factor in their
budgets this year will be the
outcome of negotiations with.
the Ontario Nurses
Association.
