UCW unit plans
for annual bazaar
Members. of the Evening,
Unit of the U.C.W. enjoyed a
delicious pot luck supper on
Tuesday evening.
Following the meal,
leader, Freeda Melanson,
opened the meeting with
prayer and chaired the
business meeting, An eX-
cellent "Quilters" report
was given, with special
thanks to Bernice Lockyer
and Verna Pitt,
The visiting committee
reported that there are ,23
shut-ins to be remembered
With. Christmas baskets, and
members were asked to
bring a sheet of wrapping
paper and some ribbon to the
November meeting to wrap
the gifts,
The "Snowflake Bazaar"
on Friday, November 28 was.
discussed and Members
agreed to look after the Tea
Room with Marjorie Park as
convener. Names of workers
were noted,
The. Unit, which has been
meeting occasionally in the •
afternoon, decided a new
name should be chosen, and
because members are
studying, working and
visiting, the name "Dorcas"
was agreed upon.

The Mission Study on
Japan was taken by Mable

Room harmony
is 4-H topic
The "Knotty Knotters" 4-H
group met at the home of
Lisa Anderson on Monday
evening answering the roll
call by telling "How my,
room reflects its use."
The discussion was on
harmony in the room, the
centre of interest, balance,
proportion and rhythm.
For the next meeting the
members are to draw their
individual rooms to scale
certain symbols and
templates.
• Youth to
sell cakes
At the meeting of the
Lucan youth group, Sunday
afternoon, at the home of
Karen Radcliffe, members
discussed the topic "Call Me
Guru" dealing with people
changing their religious
beliefs,
The group will sell
Christmas cakes for the
Masonic Lodge, on a "share
the profits" basis, to raise
money to pay for the bus to
go to Five Oaks Christian
Workers Centre. They will
"Blitz" the village Saturday,
November 15, They are also
selling the Anglican-United
Church Calendars.
The members will go roller
skating at the Wheels,
London and out for pizza
afterward, on Friday,
November 14 and will
sponsor a Christmas Dance
on December 6. It sounds
like a busy month for the
youth group and their
leaders, Barbara Ban-
nerman and Bryan Smith.
The next meeting will be
held Sunday, November 16 at
2:30, at the home of Susan
Hodgins.

war issues. in Japan
regarding militarism and
racism and compared the.
latter with racism in
Canada,
The November meeting
will he held, at 2 p.m. on the
25th, when our "secret
friends" will be invited to
attend at 3 p.m. and will be
recognized with a small gift.

The sacrament of Holy
Communion was celebrated
by the Rector, Rev. Bruce
Pocock.
In his sermon, Mr. Pocock
spoke on the meaning of
Saint, asking the question
"What is a Saint"?
Sometimes they were
warped and bent people but
we see them as perfect and
this is wrong because then
you sit them on a pedestal
which is not good.
Real Saints have been on a
pilgrimage and have
struggled to maintain.
Mr. Pocock thanked all
who had helped with the
turkey supper, in anyway,
small or great.

Members of the Lucan
Women's Institute were
pleased to hear that a new
member, Frances Pruss, has
agreed to convene the "Flea
Market" which is held at
each second meeting. Also
Iola Goring has been re-
appointed as treasurer, to
complete the term of office
of Margaret Hodgins, who,
through illness, is unable to
attend the meetings.
The Lucan United Church
was jammed to capacity on
Sunday morning to celebrate
the founding of the Sunday
School movement, by Robert
Raikes, in England, 200
years ago.
The service was taken by
members of the Church
School with Rev. Keith
Brown as MC. Those taking
part included, Blane But-
chart giving the Prayer of
Approach, Sean Bates
leading in the Responsive
Psalm, Ray Hall reading the
Scripture Lesson, a Quintet
singing "Jesus In The
Morning" Stephen Snider,

Mr. Brown paid tribute to
all past superintendents,
teachers and officers and
welcomed Rev. Stanley
Johnston of Thamesford,
who was the minister from
1933 to 1939.
Special mention was made
of, the present Superin-
tendent, Jim Robertson,
whose tremendous en-
thusiasm spearheaded this
event and who with the just
as enthusiastic, help of his
teachers and secretary,
carried it through to such a
successful conclusion.
The offering was received

set to a familiar tune, was

In place 'of a sermon, in-
terviews took place with Lisa
Kaune as the commentator.
Peter Bates interviewed
Brent Bannerman taking the
role of Robert Raikes, on the
beginnings of Sunday School,
with the Vagabonds of the
London streets, who were
played by Neil Froats , Brad
Coughlin, Michael Munro,
Andrew Barr and Darcy
Maguire.
Mindy Bates interviewed
John Park and R.J. Murray,
played by Carolyn Lankin
and Daryl Ibbitson,
regarding S.S. in the
Presbyterian Church before
Union and then walking
across the road the
Methodist Church to become
United, in 1925. Finally Tami
McRoberts, playing her
grandfather, J. Alex Young,
Supt. and teacher for many
years, was interviewed by
Kelly Ibbitson.
Rick Gwalchmai led the
congregation in the closing
prayer. Alex and Eva Young
welcomed everyone at the
door.
The church was decorated
with a great many posters
and banners made by the
members of the S.S.
depicting their ideas of what
S.S. is all about, and many
pictures, certificates, Bibles
and presentation books were
on display.
No birthday is complete
without a cake, so following
the service the U.C,W. had a
decorated cake, complete
with candles plus other
cakes, ready for the excited
children, their parents and
friends.
The S.S. had a record
attendance of 113 children
prior to the service. Space is
becoming a problem as
classes must be divided for
better communication.
Upcoming in the United
Church
Next Sunday, November 9,
is the annual "Fellowship"
Luncheon. All members and
adherents are invited to
remain after Church for this
excellent time of "food and
fellowhsip".
Sunday, November 23 has
been designated as Mission
Sunday and Dr. Allen
Knight, an agricultural
Missionary from Zaire, will
speak at Clandeboye and
Lucan morning services. He
will give an illustrated talk
at 7:30 p.m. in the Lucan
Church. Mark this in-
teresting day on your
calendar and plan* to be
present.
A change has been made in
the "Snowflake" Bazaar
, plans. The date remains the
same, Friday, November
28th, but it will be held only
in the evening from 7:30 to 9
p.m.
Items for all the usual
booths 'will be welcome,
Needed are larger sized
styrofoam meat trays and
branches off a "silver
dollar" plant. These may
be left in the Church kitchen.
TURKEY SUPPER
The annual turkey supper
at Holy Trinity Anglican
Church, was a tremendous
success. The meal was
superb and the service ex-
cellent. Your correspondent
knows from experience that
there would be a great
number of very weary men,
women and young people by
9 p.m, but rest assured,
friends, your efforts were
much appreciated!

TO THE PEOPLE OF McGILLIVRAY:
I wish to thank everyone for all the sup-
port I have received during the past 2 years.
I have enjoyed my term on Council and feel
I have learned a great deal about
McGillivray Township and its people. I am
'looking forward to the next two years as
Deputy Reeve. To represent you, the people,
I need your comments and suggestions.
Please feel free to call me on any matter.
Presently I am enrolled in the AMCTO
course at Fanshawe College, London. Unit
covers the History of Local Government. In
the next two years I hope to complete all
four units. This course, I feel, is beneficial to
anyone interested in local government.
REMEMBER TO EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT
TO VOTE on election day, November 10th,
1980. Let's have a record turn out.
