'baking powder 3/4 c. white sugar % tsp. soda 1 egg(beaten) Sift together 1 c, mashed bananas (ripe) 1.t p. vanilla 11/2 c. pastry flour tsp, salt Creath together margarine, sugar and salt. Add, beaten egg, vanilla and mashed bananas and mix well. Add dry ingredients, Fill greased tins half full of mixture and sprinkle 1/3 cup brown sugar combined with 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. Bake at 350 degrees about 20 to 25 minutes or until top springs back when pressed lightly with finger. May be baked without topping or iced when cool with orange icing. Makes 1 doz. Pearl Hicks St. Marys Sweet Dinner Bisuits Sift together: 31/2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 3 level tsp. bakiing powder Now add: 1/2 c. white sugar 2/3 c. Crisco shortening Blend ingredients together then dissolve -1 small teas- poon baking soda in 11/4 c. sour milk. Handle gently and mix to a .soft dough, roll out, cut into circles. Bake on ungreased sheet at 450,degrees. Lower heat after 10 minutes. Cook until brown on top. Orange Muffins 1 unpeeled orange, cut in eighths and put in blender 1/2 cup orange juice 1/2 cup dates or raisins (cut) Blend together. Cream 1/2 cup margarine - 1 egg - 3/4 cup white sugar. Pour blender mixture into creamed mixture. Add 1 cup flour (all purpose). Large tsp. bak- ing powder. Large tsp. baking soda. 3/4 tsp. salt. Bake at. 400 deg. for 12 minutes. Drop by spoonful into liquid and keep covered tightly for 15 minutes. .Yield 6 dumplings. Crusty Corn Bread 1/4 c. margarine or butter 1 c. corn meal 1 tbsp. flour 2 tsp, baking powder.. 1/2 tsp, sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1 c. milk 1 tsp. honey 1 egg, beaten Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Put butter in a 9x5 loaf pan and put in an oven to melt the margarine and heat the pan. Mix together the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add the milk, honey and egg and beat well. Pour the mixture into the hot pan of margarine. Bake 25-35 min. Serve with honey. ; Jessica MacDonald St. Marys Paska Easter Bread 2 pkgs. yeast 2 c. milk 15 eggs 1 c. butter 1/2 c. warm water 1 c. cream 2 c. sugar salt to. taste Vanilla, lemon extract and grated rind of one lemon. Dissolve yeast in the warm water. Bring milk and cream to a boil. Take off stove and add 2 cups of sugar, beaten eggs, melted butter and extract. Make a soft dough as for sponge and set in a warm place to rise. Now stir it well and add enough flour to make a stiff dough. Let rise until double in bulk and put in pan and let rise again. Bake in a moderate oven until done. Cape Breton Scones Mrs. Joan Oke Exeter Tea Biscuits 2 c. Robin Hood flour 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 c. crisco 1 c. buttermilk 1 tbsp, sugar Sift dry ingredients, cut in shortening, add buttermilk, mix quickly, knead a few seconds on lightly floured board. Pat out 1/2 " thickness, cut with a cutter. Brush top with sweet mills.Bake at 450 deg. oven until lightly brown.
