GRAND BEND Banana Gumdrop Loaf 10/4 c.unsif ted flour 1/a tsp. baking soda 1% tsp. baking powder 3/4 tsp. salt 3/4 c. white sugar 4 to 5 oz, gumdrops cut up (no black ones) 1 egg beaten 1/4 c. salad oil 1 c. mashed bananas 1/2 c. milk 2 tbsp. grated orange rind. Measure, sift first 5. ingredients. Add the other in- gredients. Stir. Put in greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 deg. for 50 minutes. Mrs. Joan Oke Exeter Butterhorns 1 tsp. sugar 1 pkg. yeast 1/2 c. warm water Scald the following and cool to lukewarm: 1/2 c, milk 1/4 c. sugar I/2 tsp. salt 1/4 c. butter Combine 2 mixtures. Add 1 well beaten egg and 2 c. flour. Beat until smooth, then add approx. 1 c. flour.Let rise: divide dough into 2. Roll into circle, butter. Cut in 12. Roll up starting at wide end. Let rise. Bake at 350 deg. for 8 to 10 minutes. Marion McCarter Exeter f Whole Wheat Bread Step 1 1 c, Luke warm water; add 1 tbsp. Fleishman's fast rising active dry yeast 1 tbsp. white sugar Step 2 Mix wet ingredients in large mixing bowl 1 tbsp white sugar 1 large tbsp. salt 6 tbsp shortening 1 c. boiling water When mixed add Pk c. of cold water and 2 tbsp. molasses. Step 3 Add yeast solution to the water Slowly add 81/2 c. whole wheat flour Mix and knead until dough is smooth and does not stick to, hands. Step 4 Place in greased container, grease the top, let rise nearly 2 hrs. Punch down again until the board is clear, let rise again. Put in loaf pans and let rise. This makes 4 loaves, Start oven at 375 degrees then reduce to 350. It will•sound hollow when cooked. Cool on a rack. Mrs. Verda Kingdon St. Marys Butterscotch Bread The cherries and nuts make this quick break almost like a fruit cake. 2 c. all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. soda Pk tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. nutmeg or allspice 1 c, brown sugar 1/4 c. chopped candied cherries 1/4 c chopped walnuts 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk 1 egg 2 tbsp. melted butter Sift together flour, salt, soda, baking powder and nutmeg or allspice. Add sugar, mix thoroughly, then add cherries and walnuts. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over dry mixture. Stir quickly, just enough to blend., Pour into a greased and floured 9x5x3 inch loaf pan,. Let stand 20 minutes, then bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Bernice Coulson St, Marys Date and Nut Loaf 1 c. chopped dates • 1 c. boiling water 6 tbsp. salad oil 11/2 c. bread flour 1 tsp. soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1 c. white sugar 1 egg. 1/2 c. walnuts Pour boiling water over dates along with 1 tsp, soda and the 6 tbsp. salad oil.
