The Blues and Salon 174
scored victories in the first
two games of the season in
the Lucan rec hockey
league.
Four goals in the third
period enabled the Blues to
defeat Hagers Hackers by a
6-4 score. After Don Murray
had given the Hackers a 4-2
lead on a shot from behind
the net which went off goalie
Ted Ouimets skate, the
Blues began their comeback.
Jim Hearn started things
off when he converted a two
on one break, Don Lankin
dropped the puck back to
Hearn who sent a backhand
shot through Wayne Parkin-
son's legs. Less than a,
minute later Brad England
scored a shorthanded goal
when he deflected a shot
from the point.
The winning goal came on
a solo effort when
defenceman Andy Hardy in-
tercepted an errant pass at
the Hackers blue line,
stickhandled through two
players and unleashed a high
wrist shot which beat
Parkinson.
Greg Roberts added an in-
surance goal with three
seconds left into an open net.
Both teams scored once in
the first, Hardy with the
first of his two goals, opened
the scoring on another solo
effort. Starting from his own
end he beat Parkinson on a
low wrist shot from just in-
side the blue line.
After Hagen's Don Murray
missed a breakaway, second
effort paid off when he pass-
ed it in front of the net where
Brad Taylor made no mis-
take.
Murray gave the Hackers
the lead with a quick goal
early in the second when a
shot from the side of the net
managed to elude Ouimet.
Jim Hearn tied the score
at two all, on a goal mouth
scramble.
The Hackers then took the
lead when Bill Haskett
dumped a pass back to Gary
Isaac who made no mistake
on a low shot with less than a
minute remaining in the se-
cond period.
In the second game of the
night Salon 174 fought off a
determined Green come-
back to post an 8-5 victory.
With Salon 174 leading 4-1
going into the third, three
straight goals by the Greens
made a game of it.
Mike Wraith opened ,the
scoring three minutes into
the game when he moved
from the corner into the slot
and scored on a wrist shot,
Rick Gwalchmai added to
the lead when he was left all'
alone in front of the net and
backhanded a shot past a
sprawling Dave Revington.
Brian Noyes brought the
Greens to within one when
he deflected a shot from the
corner over goalie John
Garrison's shoulder.
Salon 174's two goal lead
was restored when Ian
Davies scored sliding the
puck under Revington during
a wild goalmouth scramble.
liefenceman Scott Ander-
son increased the lead to 4-1
with the only goal of the se-
cond period.
Standing in front of the net
he managed to tip a shot
which deflected off the
goaltender into the net.
The third period was a
completely different story
as the Greens scored the
first three goals to tie the
score at 4-4.
Brian Noyes started things
'with his second goal of the
game, one minute into the
third period when he knock-
ed in a rebound by John
Garrison.
Five minuted later
Garrison lost Russ
Anglican
At Holy Trinity Anglican
Church, Lucan, Sunday
morning, the Rev.FredKirby
of London, was the guest
speaker, taking as his
subject "Prayer", a
neglected part of our daily
lives, the opening of the
heart and mind to the Spirit
of God.
"There are three pegs of
Prayer" said Mr. Kirby,
"Lord have mercy, Thee I
adore and Into Thy hands I
commence myself".
For all our short comings
we must be ready to say
"Lord have mercy". Then in
adoration remember the God
in Trinity and unity who
came and died for us and
finally- into His hands com-
mend ourselves to worship
and praise Him,Add to these
three pegs the prayer taught
us by our Lord and we have
the means of becoming more
Christ-like.
The lessons were read by
Carol Hardy .and Russ.
Radcliffe and Marie and Bob
Sockett w'eleoMed the
members of the
congregation.

"The Nifty Knotters" 411
Club met on Wednesday
evening, October 22nd at the
home of Sheryl Cobleigh with
Tracy Giesen acting as
Rotating Secretary.
Members discussed their
furnishings and
arrangement in their
bedrooms, under the
headings harmony, centre of
attention, balance,
proportion and rhythm .They
also discussed how to make a
floor plan and the symbols
used, making use of the floor
plans in the "Club Girl's
Book" to see if they had
planned well.
Book covers to be used,
also came under discussion
and the girls started writing
out suggestions for "Super
Storage Ideas" for
Achievement Day.
The next meeting will be
on Monday, November 3 at
the home of Darlene Paton.
The "Knotty Knotters"
group held its meeting last
Monday night, October 20th,
at the home of Shelly Gillen
where they answered the
Roll Call by telling how their
individual rooms affected
their personality and likes.
The members showed
their finished macrame
samples and decided on the
book cover designed by
Teresa• Foran, Tina Capolbo
'and Lisa Anderson.
This group's exhibit at
Achievement Day will be
entitled "Personality Plus",
how a girl's personality is
projected through the decor
of her own personal room.
Radcliffe's shot in his'skates
and Bruce Reid capitalized
knocking in the loose puck.
Gary Revington then
knotched the first of his two
goals when he scored on a
two on one break with
Noyes, Noyes drawing the
defenceman to him then
dropped a pass to Revington
whose shot glanced off the
crossbar into the net.
Salon 174 came right back
two minutes later when Ian
Davies converted a pass
from behind the net by Mike
Wraith.
With four minutes left
Gary Revington again tied
the score when his low wrist
shot from the slot beat
Garrison,
Thirty seconds later Salon
174 came right back with the
eventual game winner by
Wraith who knocked in a
rebound after Dave
Revington had made the in-
itial save. Shortly
afterwards Gary Miller and
Wraith had a two on one with
Miller deflecting Wraith's
pass into the net.
The last goal of the game
came on a somewhat bizarre
play. With goaltender
Revington busy fixing his
equipment while play con-
tinued, Bill Neil broke down
the ice on a breakaway.
Revington scrambled to get'
his gloves on but wasn't real-1
ly ready as Neildecked niece
and slid the puck into an
open net.
