I have enjoyed my term on Council and feel
I have learned a great deal about
McGillivray Township and its people. I am

Presently I am enrolled in the AMCTO
course at Fanshawe College, London. Unit I
covers the History of Local Government. In
the next two years I hope to complete all
four units. This course, I feel, is beneficial to
anyone interested in local government.

morning was taken by Rev.
Wally Howlett, District
Secretary of the Canadian
Bible Society's South
Western Ontario Area. Mr.
.Howlett brought the
members up-to-date on the
work being done by the
society. The Bible Society
receives local prominence
and support each spring in
theWalkathon and at other
times through the year in
Bible and Missionary
messages. Rev. Keith Brown
was the Annivqrsary
speaker at Zurich United
Church, on Sunday.
The choir, under the
direction of Helen Stanley
sang the anthem "A Faithful
Shepherd".

School registrations at the
Biddulph-Lucan Public
Schools are up by 29 students
from June, to 486 with 55 in
kindergarten. New staff this
year include Miss Donna
Walker, Grade 3,4, Mrs.
Colleen Mullin, Grade 4,
Roger Hathaway, Grade 6,
Hallowe'en
party a success
The Lucan youth group
Hallowe'en party was a
great success, on Friday
evening at the home, of Don
Liley. All members and
friendsappeared in costume
to enjoy an evening of
Hallowe'en games and .
dancing. The committee in
charge of 'this part of the
program was Carolyn
Lankin, Tami McRoberts
and Kelly Ibbitson. Terri
McRoberts, Sheila Jones and
Linda Patterson were the
committee for a very ex-
cellent lunch. Everyone
reported a good time.
The next regular meeting
of the group will be held on
Sunday eying November 2 at
the home of Karen Radcliffe
at 7:30. All young people of
high school age 'are invited.
Lodge ladies night
• Ambulance call comes
from London, provided
enjoyable music for dancing,
following the dinner.

Education, and Mrs. Sharon
Abel, School Nurse.
Hearing tests are being
carried out for all the Kin-
dergarten, Grade 1 and
Grade 3 students in
November and again in
April. Students in other
grades may be assessed at
the request of teachers or
parents.
Tomorrow night, October
30th, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
children will bring their
parents to meet their teacher
for this year, and show their
work in various fields of
endeavour.
During the summer
vacation some im-
provements Were made in
the school buildings and
grounds. An area of asphalt
was laid at the junior end of
the Biddulph Building and
the trim was repainted. At
the Lucan building a new
sidewalk 'was poured where
students board the buses and
the new library is being
completed.
In the past years students
have been fortunate that so
many parents, and former
parents, in the community
have helped in the school as
volunteers. Many . have
helped on a regular basis or
for special events while
others have carried out the
fluoride rinse program, hot
dog sales, or helped the
nurse with the health
program.

Fire Call
The Lucan volunteer fire
department answered an
early sunday morning call to
the site of an old log cabill on
the 9th of McGillivray
Township, which some
bright person had set on fire!
It was completely
demolished.

The Leprechaun Room at
the Lucan Community
Centre was the scene,
Saturday evening, of the
annual ladies' night spon-
sored by Irving Lodge No.
154, A.F. and A.M., G.R.C. of
Lucan.
As each couple arrived the
lady was presented with a
carnation corsage.
The Jr, Warden, Bro,
Robert Taylor, asked the
blessing and following the
dinner catered to by the
Arena Catering Service,
Worshipful Master, Bro.
Brian C. Haskett, introduced
head table guests as well as
some special guests scat-
tered through the audience.
The toast to the Queen and
the craft was offered by the
Sr. Warden, Bro. James
Craig and the Senior Deacon,
Bro. Ken Moor, proposed the
toast to the ladies„ with Mrs.
Haskett, wife of the Master,
replying on behalf of all the
ladies present, in a few well-
. chosen words.

We are a group of girls
ranging in ages from 12 to 15
years of age. Our group
consists of 11 girls and we're
growing in members.
Monday evenings at 6:45 in
Lucan United Church we get
our group together and learn
different things from each
other or from special people
who come to visit us.
We are going to learn to
apply make-up properly, all
about the,do's and don'ts of
camping, hiking in the woods
and abgutt naAre's: beautiful
surroundijiw, baking,
sewing,' knitting' and much,
much more.
An are here to help one
another and others less
fortunate than ourselves. We
are anxious to learn and
eager to help anyone.in need
of, us.
This group of ours is going
to help us mature into stable
and responsible adults.
We are Lucan's first
"Pathfinders".

Hodgins, attended the 66th
Annual Area Convention for
Women's Institutes, as the
Lucan delegate, and on
Tuesday the 28th, Vina
Emery, the president, acted
as the delegate. The theme
for the Convention was a
part of the Ode "In Friend-
ship's Circle Bright". 1980-81
has been declared by
F.W.I.O. as "The Year of the
W.I. in Ontario" when all
Branches, and members, are
urged to do more Public
Relations work to build up
the membership within the
local Branch.

Thursday night
The Biddulph-Lucan Home
& School Association is
sponsoring the "Meet the
Teacher Night" Thursday
6:30-8 p.m. and the first
regular meeting will be held
on Thursday, November 20.
The program is not quite
finalized, but from what your
correspondent has heard it
will be most interesting and
of the same calibre as last
year's meetings, which were
excellent,
A special program on
"Early Indentification of
Children's Learning Needs"
is planned for later in the
school year, which will be of
interest to all, grandparents
included, and particularly to
those with pre-school
children,
The "Family FunNight" is
planned again this year to
raise funds - for special
projects.
