The instructor in "Adaptable Christmas Crafts", through Fanshawe College, can only be at the meeting of the Busy Buddies from 1 to 3 which would result in these members missing the business session. A singsong was enjoyed prior to cards and crafts, when Ceramic Bud Vases were started, to be used for those members in hospital. Wally Howlett, District Secretary of the Canadian Bible Society's South Western Ontario Area. Mr. .Howlett brought the members up-to-date on the work being done by the society. The Bible Society receives local prominence and support each spring in theWalkathon and at other times through the year in Bible and Missionary messages. Rev. Keith Brown was the Annivqrsary speaker at Zurich United Church, on Sunday. The choir, under the direction of Helen Stanley sang the anthem "A Faithful Shepherd". Verna and Evan Ibbitson welcomed members of, the congregation and the of- fering was received by Kelly and Darrell Ibbitson and. Teachers and students are making great preparations for this event. If you miss it you'll be sorry! Rehearsals are progressing for the Christmas Cantata but you still have time to join the singers each Thursday evening at 8 p.m. How are your mittens coming for the "Mitten Tree"? The Sunday School is setting up a Church Library - Christian reading for all ages, and reference books for teachers and leaders. New staff this year include Miss Donna Walker, Grade 3,4, Mrs. Colleen Mullin, Grade 4, Roger Hathaway, Grade 6, Hallowe'en party a success The Lucan youth group Hallowe'en party was a great success, on Friday evening at the home, of Don Liley. All members and friendsappeared in costume to enjoy an evening of Hallowe'en games and . dancing. The committee in charge of 'this part of the program was Carolyn Lankin, Tami McRoberts and Kelly Ibbitson. Terri McRoberts, Sheila Jones and Linda Patterson were the committee for a very ex- cellent lunch. Everyone reported a good time. The next regular meeting of the group will be held on Sunday eying November 2 at the home of Karen Radcliffe at 7:30. All young people of high school age 'are invited. Lodge ladies night • Ambulance call comes from London, provided enjoyable music for dancing, following the dinner. Mrs. Judy Everett, Special Education, and Mrs. Sharon Abel, School Nurse. Hearing tests are being carried out for all the Kin- dergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 3 students in November and again in April. Students in other grades may be assessed at the request of teachers or parents. Tomorrow night, October 30th, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. children will bring their parents to meet their teacher for this year, and show their work in various fields of endeavour. During the summer vacation some im- provements Were made in the school buildings and grounds. An area of asphalt was laid at the junior end of the Biddulph Building and the trim was repainted. At the Lucan building a new sidewalk 'was poured where students board the buses and the new library is being completed. In the past years students have been fortunate that so many parents, and former parents, in the community have helped in the school as volunteers. Many . have helped on a regular basis or for special events while others have carried out the fluoride rinse program, hot dog sales, or helped the nurse with the health program. Your contributions help build, a good program and a good school, Fire Call The Lucan volunteer fire department answered an early sunday morning call to the site of an old log cabill on the 9th of McGillivray Township, which some bright person had set on fire! It was completely demolished. MORE LUCAN NEWS ON PAGE 14A The Leprechaun Room at the Lucan Community Centre was the scene, Saturday evening, of the annual ladies' night spon- sored by Irving Lodge No. 154, A.F. and A.M., G.R.C. of Lucan. As each couple arrived the lady was presented with a carnation corsage. The Jr, Warden, Bro, Robert Taylor, asked the blessing and following the dinner catered to by the Arena Catering Service, Worshipful Master, Bro. Brian C. Haskett, introduced head table guests as well as some special guests scat- tered through the audience. The toast to the Queen and the craft was offered by the Sr. Warden, Bro. James Craig and the Senior Deacon, Bro. Ken Moor, proposed the toast to the ladies„ with Mrs. Haskett, wife of the Master, replying on behalf of all the ladies present, in a few well- . chosen words. Our group consists of 11 girls and we're growing in members. Monday evenings at 6:45 in Lucan United Church we get our group together and learn different things from each other or from special people who come to visit us. We are going to learn to apply make-up properly, all about the,do's and don'ts of camping, hiking in the woods and abgutt naAre's: beautiful surroundijiw, baking, sewing,' knitting' and much, much more. An are here to help one another and others less fortunate than ourselves. We are anxious to learn and eager to help anyone.in need of, us. This group of ours is going to help us mature into stable and responsible adults. We are Lucan's first "Pathfinders". Locals attend WI convention Monday, October 27, Iva Hodgins, attended the 66th Annual Area Convention for Women's Institutes, as the Lucan delegate, and on Tuesday the 28th, Vina Emery, the president, acted as the delegate. The theme for the Convention was a part of the Ode "In Friend- ship's Circle Bright". 1980-81 has been declared by F.W.I.O. as "The Year of the W.I. in Ontario" when all Branches, and members, are urged to do more Public Relations work to build up the membership within the local Branch. the toast to Grand Lodge with Right Worshipful Charles Corbett replying for Worshipful Bro. Bill Haskett, Grand Standard Bearer for Grand Lodge, who, un- fortunately received an ambulance call just in the middle of things! Brother Kevin Mummer expressed thanks to the caterers on behalf of those present, and "Happy Birthday" was sung to Bro. Bill Haskett and Wor. Bro. W.C. Moody, led by a "surprised" Bryan Smith. Dee Jay, a disc jockey REMEMBRANCE On Sunday, Noveviber 9 from 12:30 to 1 p.m. the Remembrance Day service and Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at the , Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Branch 580.If weather permits the ceremony will be held outside at the Cenotaph. McCANN for Councillor McGillivray Township Your Influence and Support Would be Appreciated Meet teachers Thursday night The Biddulph-Lucan Home & School Association is sponsoring the "Meet the Teacher Night" Thursday 6:30-8 p.m. and the first regular meeting will be held on Thursday, November 20. The program is not quite finalized, but from what your correspondent has heard it will be most interesting and of the same calibre as last year's meetings, which were excellent, A special program on "Early Indentification of Children's Learning Needs" is planned for later in the school year, which will be of interest to all, grandparents included, and particularly to those with pre-school children, The "Family FunNight" is planned again this year to raise funds - for special projects.
