others are not paying

Offer better
coverages
Ontario Consumer
Minister Frank, Drea in-
troduced two insurance
amendments which will offer
better liability protection to
victims, of car accidents.
An amendment to The
Insurance Act will increase
the minimum third party
liability coverage for 'auto
insurance policies from
$100,000 to $200,000, The
amendment to The Motor
Vehicle Accident Claims
Fund will increase the
maximum amount payable
from $190,000 to $200,000.
Both amendments are
scheduled to take effect
March 1, 1981,
"The .$100,000 minimum
for third party liability
coverage has become
inadequate because of the
effect inflation has had on
the cost of medical care as
well, as auto repairs," said
Mr. Drea. "The $100,006
minimum has not changed
since 1977 while general
living expenses have in-
creased about 30 per cent."
Raising the third party
liability coverage is
expected to increase
premiums' for those
motorists.who carry only the
minimum $100,000 (ap-
proximately 19 per cent) by
about five per dent.
