thWestern in a doubleheader..

The junior game will start
at 1. p.m. with the seniors
following at 2:45 p.m,
The senior Panthers ended
an undefeated season
Thursday with a 22-21 win
over Stratford Central.
The junior club after losing
their first game of the season
a week earlier to Goderich
rebounded with a resounding
28-0 win over Stratford.
Thursday's senior game
was described by South
Huron deaeh Ron Bogart as a "truly wild contest".
Bogart continued, "We
played a rather lax first half.
We should have* run • over
them, but, we were. quite
lucky to lead at halftime. A
couple of key plays on
defence held Stratford from
scoring in close."
The only scoring in the
first period was a single
point by Stratford,
Doug Hoffman chalked up
all eight points for the
Panthers in the second.

The first point came as
Hoffman's field. goal Attempt
went wide. He then took a
pass from .quarterback Dave
Bell that covered 20 yards
and the convert kick was
good.
Stratford bounced right
back into contention with,
third quarter touchdown. to
trail by only one point.

Pete Tuckey rambled 20
yards on a reverse to chalk
up six points and Doug
Hoffman converted to put SH
in front 15-7.
With just over three
minutes to go, Stratford
moved the ball well on
sweeps and passes to score,
A two point convert on a run
tied the score at 15-15.
Stratford tried a short
kick but Ed Willis was able
to recover for the Panthers.
Good runs by Smith, Norm
Regier and Pete Tuckey took
the ball in for a touchdown
and Doug Hoffman con-
verted,
Stratford came right back
for their third touchdown
with less than a minute to go.
This time their try for a two
point convert on a run was
stopped short of the goal line.
The final three minutes of
the game took 40 minutes to
play.
Total offensive 'figures
were close with the Panthers
taking an overall margin of
428 to 403 yards on the
strength of 25 more yards in
penalties.
Stratford led on the ground
311 yards to 273 while the
Panthers excelled in the air
110 to 72 yards.
On the ground, Rick
Lindenfield gained 95 yards
on 13 carries, Smith picked
up 72 yards on seven tries,
Norm Regier was good for 44
yards on a dozen carries and
Pete Tuckey got 42 yards on
three attempts,

The junior Panthers.
scored at least six points in
every quarter as they
swamped Stratford Central
26-0,
Chris Van. Gerwen scored
the only six points, of the
first quarter as he ran in
from two yards out for a
touchdown which was not
converted.
John Kernick broke loose
for a run of 81 yards in the
second period and Chris Van
Gerwen booted the extra
point to put the Panthers in
front 13-0.
In the third quarter Dave
Hughes grabbed a pass from
Chris Van Gerwen and
galloped 36 yards for another
major score. Van Gerwen's
point after was successful,
The final South Huron six
points came in the final
quarter when John Kernick
raced 25 yards into the Strat-
ford end zone,
In the second quarter Ker-
nick ran 10.1 yards for a

Marauders beat Zurich
after two early losses
In Thursday's win over
Zurich, the Marauders took
a 3-1 lead after the first 20
minutes of play and were
never headed.
The game was less than
three minutes old when Rick
Funston put Centralia in
front on a three-way passing
combination with Rob
Funston and Dick Lord.
Ron Rader knotted the
count the Buckeyes on a
pass from Mike Clarke at
8:28.
Before the first period
ended, Rick Funston and
Randy Somerville counted
for the Marauders with
The Centralia Marauders
won their first game of the
young South Huron in-
termediate hockey season
Thursday night by a score of
6-2 over the defending cham-
pion Zurich Buckeyes.
In earlier games, the
Marauders were defeated 5-
1 by the Parkhill Merchants
and 7-5 by Goderich.
In. their only upcoming
game this week, the
Marauders meet the Cen-
tralia College Saints tonight,
Wednesday_ at the Stephen
township arena at Huron
Park. Game time is 8:30
p.m.

'Cross country
The South Huron District
High School junior girls
finished in fifth place in the
recent WOSSA cross country
championships held at
Byron. A total of 57 schools
competed.
Carla Solomom, Catherine
Patterson, Susan Bir-
mingham and Susan Sullivan
were the top four junior
girls
Dan Shute, Mike Van
Raay, Jim Regier and Mike
Grubb led the junior boys to
a 13th place finish.
Matt McClure turned in
the best performance for
South Huron finishing 11th in
the senior boys division.
Other top performers for
the senior boys were Murray
