Personals Mr, & Mrs. Nelson Hodgins of London were guests on Sunday with Mr. & Mrs, Kenneth Hodgins and family. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Forrest have returned after spending some time at their cottage in the Collingwood area. Granton Women's Institute members Mesdames C. Lewis, R.A. Carson, E. Morden, P. Hodgins, N. Riddell, D. Roloson and C, Bryan at- tended a food forum spon- sored by the Department of Agriculture and Food, at Hyde Park on Thursday evening. Mrs. Ron Hardie represented the Granton Cubs at a meeting in Kirkton on Thursday evening to plan for the 1981 Cuboree. SUMMERS GRANTON The Granton W.I. met at the home of Mrs. James Kerr on Tuesday, In the absence of the president, Mrs. Don Roloson vice- president chaired the meeting, During the business session a bus trip was discussed, and Mrs. C. Lewis said that she would have Christmas coffee spoons for sale again this year. The program topic was resolutions and conveners were Mrs. Don Roloson, Mrs, Clare Bryan and Mrs, David Roloson. Mrs. Don Roloson drew the members attention to the articles in the. Free Press conce'rning foreign ownership of farm properties, this will be one of the resolutions to be voted on at the area convention held in St. Marys, She also enlarged on the motto "Resolution are not worth much unless they ripen into good deeds". Mrs. Clare Bryan gave two readings. Roll call was answered with a good shopping hint. Mrs. David Roloson a recent bride was honored with a W.I. coffee spoon as a wedding gift from the branch. Mrs. Duncan Fletcher of Ilderton, district president, was visiting the Granton members and talked about a number of projects per- tabling to W.I. work, such as the scholarship awarded to Kim Smith, at the W.I. Rally last summer. Kim hopes to become a lab. technician, Mrs. Fletcher also gave a good report of A,C.W,W. Triannual Conference held at Hamburg Germany this year, She got her in- formation from Mrs. Helen Rumble, King City, who attended the Conference, and who was the speaker at a recent meeting of the Ilderton W.I. The speaker also talked about the 1982 International Plowing Match which will be held in Lucan, outlining a tentative number of duties the WI, would be undertaking connection with this event. Mrs. Bryan and the two Mrs. Rolosons assisted the hogtess to serve lunch. Church hews At the United Church Rev. Elwood Morden conducted the Sunday morning wor- ship, anu continuing with his series on the ten com- mandments, entitled his sermon "Common and Respectable Crooks" this pertained to the 8th com- mandment "Thou shalt not steal". Mentioning people in the Bible who were common and respectable crooks, Rev. Morden said, there are men and women today who claim to be respectable members of the community, who shoplift, steal towels from hotels, cheat 0.H.l.P, ' Welfare, unemployment Insurance services, then there are the V.I.P.'s who resort to price fixing em- bezzlement and exploiting labor, However, I still believe there are many honest people in the world. An honest man is the noblest of God work. At the St. Thmas Anglican Church Rev. Gregg Smith conducted the service of Morning Prayer. The first Lesson was read from Ecclesiasticus 18-1933 by Mrs. Ron Hardie and the 2nd from Matt: 18: 15-20 by Mrs. James Hodgins, Rev, Smith preached his sermon on the two lessens, This was on the institution of the Church in Jesus' Day, Stating that we are inheritants of this' in- stitution. The church is a place for love, where people gather together for praying and worlisip, said Rev. Gregg A reminder was given of the Dressed Ham Supper to be held in the church hall on Wednesday November 5 from. 5-8 p.m. The service at the Granton Community Bible Church was taken by the Nations Gospel Trio of London. The presentation was worshipful, as they used scripture verses set to , music, In several songs they invited the congregation to sing along with them in praising, the Lord. 4-H news The Granton 4-H Club held their third meeting at the home of leader Mrs. Roger Harmsworth. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge, and the roll call was answered by telling how your bedroom reflects your likes and personality. It was decided to call the club "The Forget Me-knots" The members talked about their bedroom's sizes, how they were decorated, and the different ways they were used, followed by a discussion on the free choice articles. The meeting closed with the 4-H motto. Secretary and press reporter was Susan Noon. Granton and area youth group There was a new youth group formed in the area at the home of Paul and Linda Wallis on Sunday evening. Fifteen High School students attended this organization meeting which is being led by four young couples who call themselves leader ad- visers. A decision to meet every other Sunday evening at various homes was made, also the, members were divided into three grOnps of five, one to be responsible for the program, and one for the lunch, these will rotate. The next meeting will be held at the home of Scott and Barb Duncan on Sunday November 9. This group is non-denominational, All high school students are welcome. Transportation to meetings will be provided if needed. Pot luck supper and craft display The Pot luch supper and craft display, sponsored by Court Valentine Canadian Foresters was very well attended on October 23. Door prizes for a Forester coffee spoon were won by the following ladies: Nancy Hilton of London, Inez McRobert, Dorothy Ducharme, Evelyn O'Shea, and Eileen Summers. After supper Mrs. Elvira Routley of Elimville demonstrated how to make a snowman, this was very interesting, she also took orders to make some for Christmas presents. Scout, Cubs and Beaver news This group of boys had a very successful Apple Day, on Saturday. The scouts and Cubs went from door to door to sell their apples, while the Beavers were busy polishing the apples at the Scout Hall. This group and their leaders would like to extend ONLY IN STORES HAVING A COUNTRY OVEN BAKERY.
