Before You Buy
When we signed up to fly'to
Vancouver and back on CP's
Skybus, we were told it was
"no-frills", There were no
meals served, and you had to
pay for every drink, We
figured that meant no
movies, too,
So, before we went to the
airport, we found a nice
restaurant, and enjoyed our
supper, Our flight left.
Toronto around 5:00 p.m.
and arrived in Vancouver at
11:00 p.m. their time, which
to us would only 9:00 p.m.
Sound confusing? You're
just lucky you didn't have to
go through it,
Soon after our flight took
off, the attendant came
around with hot chicken
dinners. Somebody at the
airport had made a mistake
and loaded the dinners on the
Skybus, They decided we
might as well eat them. It
was great for us, but just
think of that other plane load
of hungry people who had
been promised a meal, but
didn't get a thing.
Unfortunately, they didn't
load on anything to drink,
and we had nothing to wash
our meals )down.
We had movies, too, but we
had to pay $3.00 for an un-
comfortable set of ear
phones.
During the past six
months, I think I have been
to a grand total of two
movies. I saw Kramer Vs.
Kramer and the Electric
Horseman. ;Guess which
movies were being shown on
the flights? We saw the
Electric Horseman on the
flight out, and Kramer Vs.
Kramer on the way back.
Kramer Vs. Kramer was
well worth seeing a second
time, (I cried just as hard in
the sad parts), but Electric
Horseman wasn't --e.ren
with Robert Redford to look-
at.
We weren't as lucky on our
way home -- no one loaded
any food on our plane by
mistake. But this time 'our
flight left in the morning,
and we didn't have time for
lunch. We were so hungry
when we landed in Toronto
that even the stale kaiser
buns a'f the airport tasted
good.
Speaking of tasting, we
certainly enjoyed the taste of
the salt sea air while we
were on Vancouver Island,
Most of the time anyway.
There was one day when
we tasted plenty of salt
water, thanks to a playful
killer whale. named Haida.
The program had already
started when we arrived at
Sea Land, so we quicidy
made our way to poolside. A
long stretch of railing had no
one leaning on it, so we got
ourselves front row spots to
see the killer Whale show, No
sootier had I taken the lens
cap off my camera, than the
"cute" killer whale took .a
look at us, and swam right
over in our direction, She
inhaled and then suddenly
exhaled, blowing a mouthful
of salty water all over us.,
We were drenched, soaked
from head to foot. Have you
ever had a killer whale spit
at you? She was able to spew
out a lot!
After the show we found
out why'no one was standing
along that section of the
railing. The railing around
the pool was all colour coded,
and we were standing along
the blue rail, which meant
you were guarenteed toget
wet. They train the whale to
spit or slap her tail whenever
she sees anyone standing
along the blue rail. A few
people get wet standing
behind the grey rail, while
those behind the white rail
stayed dry.

Port Franks
by-law
Continued from page 6A
affected by a controversial
Bosanquet township by-law
which places most of the
village below, flood line.
Cottagers on land leased
from the Ausable Bayfield
Conservation Authority have
been told that they will not
have their leases renewed if
they are in flood plain areas.
Armstrong made his
comments two days after.
Ontario Corrections Minister
Godon Walker conceded in
the legislature there needs to
be "a sorting out" of the
situation. Walker admitted
later: "I think everybody is
embarrassed by the
Situation that occurred in
Port Franks."
Armstrong said the
citizens' group has begun
work on "constructive
suggestions" for solving the
problems at Port Franks,
created when the Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation
Authority and Bosanquet
Township decreed that no
new development could
occur in lands subject to a
Hurricane Hazel-force major
storm. The authority had
been permitting new
development as recently as
this year, although the major
storm line was set in 1974. t
A brief outlining the
citizens' suggestions for
solving the problem at Port
Franks may be ready for
presentation to Lambton
provincial member Lome
Henderson later this week,
Armstrong said.
He said if the approach to
Henderson falls to produce
results, the group will
probably take its case for
compromise to the
provincial cabinet.
The bylaw which affects
much of th property in the
Port Franks area is now the
subject of an Ontario
Municipal Board hearing.
The hearing wasadjourned in
September after three days
of testimony. A date for
resumption has not been
announced.
