AILSA CRAIG
Life in parts of South
America and some of the
problemsfacing that country
was the topic of discussion at
the recent meeting of' the
Riverview, W.I.
At the monthly meeting
held October 14 Mrs. Peter
Twynstra showed slides and
spoke on a trip she and her
husband and children en-
jived to South America last
winter. The lack of meat in
the third world eotintry was
emphasized by Mr. Twyn-
Stra•
The meeting was opened
by president, Mrs. Gertrude
Reeser and roll all an-
swered with a reply to the
question, "If you had to live
in another country, which
country would you choose
and why?"
,Mrs. Nancy Harmer was
elected Vice-President and
Mrs., Alice Dickens, Curator.
The motto, "World is
Seeking Peace and Unity -
Let Us all Do Our Share",
was taken by • Mrs. Esther
Craven whoceneluded with a
poems, "Peace", The
scripture Was taken by Mrs,
Nola IVIcEwen who select-
ed the passage of the legend
of the two angels. She then
led in a prayer by Helen
Steiner Rice. Mrs. Mary
Rees gave several readings
on growing older.
President Mrs, Gertrude
Rosser, presented Parkhill
Fair Queen contest and
Wendy Lee with a gift and
thanked her for her
willingness to represent the
Riverview W.I, in the event.
Members will be
preparing a quilt for the 1982
International plowing match
to be held in Lucan, and at
the next meeting members
will be asked to respond to
the roll call with suggestions
for a theme for the quilt,
Delegates Mrs. Marie
Campbell and Mrs. Sharon
Craven will attend the
October 27 and 26 convention
at St, Marys and members
will visit Craigholme Nnr-
sing Home some time in
November.

hold elections •
Eleetiens were held at the
regular meeting of the Ailsa
Craig Explorers Tuesday
evening. Rachael Teews,
was elected Chief Explorer,
Laurie Macdonald Keeper of
the Log, Lianne Latta
Keeper of the Treasury and
Ruth Ann Hokansson,Keeper
of Attendance.
A record number of 36 girls
are enrolled this year under
the leadership of .Beth
MacGregor and Mary
McPhee, assisted•by Wendy
Lee. The mission study ,for
this season is entitled,
"Somebody Loves • You".
Currently the girls are
preparing to attend th'e
annual Explorer Rally which
will be held Saturday
NoVember 8 at the Byron
United Church. Games,
crafts, stories and songs will
be included in the afternoon
event.
Ellen Smit, Ailsa Craig's
past explorer leader, has
recently been appointed
Chairperson of the Explorer
Fellowship for • the local
area.
East Williams takes
cross country meet

vitation•Cross Country Meet
taking first place. In, the past
five meets, East Williams
has placed first in com-
petition.
Brent Martin placed 1st in
the boys 12 and over and
Kirk Campbell took fourth
place,
In the girls', 12 and over
Susan Ingham placed 10th.
Chris Gillies and Rick
Gilles took 4th and 10th
places respectively in the
Boys 11 and under division,
In the girls' 11 and under,
Rachael Toews, Christine'
Phillips and Laurie Mac-
Donaldplaced 1st 2nd and 3rd
with Ruth Ann Hokkansson
placing 6th.
The team ,will compete in
the County meet at
Longwoods on October 29 at
which time some 700 runners
are expected to compete.
