William Eckert, Director of Education for the board, said that the new report cards were created by board , staff, teachers and prin- cipals because the old report cards, which have been in use for the past five years, do not always meet the needs of the teacher, the student, the parentand the ministry, and also to save paperwork. Previously at the end of each year the teacher had to do two reports--one for the parents and one to be kept on file for the ministry. Mr. Eckert stated that with the new report cards, he said one can be used for both pur- poses--the first copy to the parents and the second kept' meeting so that they could have it changed if they did not agree with its content. However, board Chairman, Ronald Marcy, pointed out that' the two ch'airmen'of the negotiating teams (the board and the teachers) are responsible for the content of the press release according to board bylaw. Thus if the press release was changed, then it would not be the joint release of the negotiating committees. Trustee Michael Connolly of Kippen said, "The procedure of that committee should not over-rule the board," A boaid dinner will be held Friday, November 28, for trustees, administration and their spouses of the present board. The inaugural meeting of the newly elected board will be• held on Monday, d December 1, at 8 p.m. and will be preceded by a dinner. Following adjournment of the regular meeting, the board returned to com- mittee-of-the-whole to discuss four items, on the agenda which they con- sidered needed to be discussed behind closed doors. The next board meeting will be held October 27 and the first meeting in November on November 12. From the committee of the whole it was reported that all insurance policies be, renewed with Leeson-Killer Insurance of Stratford, as outlined from October 1980 to Rog. 1111.04 press release given out following the ratification by the board of the teaching staff's salaries. He said he objected to what he sees in the press--the fact that the increase plus increment amounted to between 11,3 and 11.4 per- cent. He said the release should have included this as "we are not trying to hide anything". He said he objected to the use of the statement - "Qualifications Evaluation Council of Ontario (QECO) Program III is being used to determine teacher level placement commencing September 1, 1980", as the public does not know what QECO means. Several board members said they wanted to know what was in the press release prior to the ratification October 1981 for a net annual premium of $25,333. The board agreed that Robin Phillips, Kitchener, agent for Canadian Scholarship Trust Foun- dation not be allowed -to distribute his literature in the schools. $2399 Rag. $21.64 $ 9 3-PIECE SUITS Rog. John McCauley, Superintendent of Education for the board, outlined how the new report cards are made up. Three reports are sent out during the year and each one is accompanied by a course description and a timetetable guideline. The parents must keep each of the report cards to compare the child's progress throughout the year. Mr, McCauley said the new report card gives consistency in establishing, the child's progress. He said another important aspect of the report is that the student's "effort" is graded, enabling the parent to know whether the child is doing his best or if he is not achieving as much as he is capable of oing. Following its policy of past years the board again agreed to support the Kiwanis Music Festival of Stratford by ,dona ting a scholarship valued at $125.
