three councillors from seven
candidates in the November
10 municipal election,
Doug Russell will be
moving up from his deputy-
reeve pdst to take over by
acclamation from retiring
reeve Ken Campbell.
Present councillor Alan
Walper will move up to the
deputy-reeve spot, again by
acclamation.
The two other current
councillors Tom Tomes and
Ralph Weber will be facing
opposition from newcomers
Kenneth McCann, Andy,
McIntyre, Jack O'Neill,
Steve Pertschy and Andrew
Robertson,
McIntyre and O'Neill are
Huron Park residents while
Pertschy, McCann and
Robertson are from the
Crediton area.
Trustees in the police
villages of Crediton and
Centralia have been
returned by acclamation
while only two trustees were
nominated Dashwood.
In Crediton, the trustees
will be Charles Browning
Sr., Don Dinney and Alfred
Smith while Bill 'Elliott,
Wayne Greb and Borden
Smyth will 'be Centralia
trustees.
In Dashwood only present ,
trustees George Tieman and
Ken Rader were nominated.
The other trustee Harold
Schreoeder failed to file
papers. A second nomination
is now necessary.

Harry Hayter and
Clarence (King) McDonald
who have been the school
board members for the town
of Exeter and the townships
of Stephen and Usborne for a
number of years are
returning. '
Herb Turkheim of Zurich,
who has represented the
villages Of Hensall and
Zurich and the township of
Hay has retired. He is being
replaced for the 1981-82 term
by Dr. John Goddard of
Hensall.
For the township of
Tuckersmith and the town of
Seaforth Frank Falconer
replaces Dorothy Williams.
Falconer has been on
Tuckersmith council for a
number of years.
The separate school'
representative on the Huron
County Board of Education
Will be Dennis Rau. He
replaces his father Charles
Who is retiring,
Bob Peck on the board for
quite some time from the
township of Stanley and the
village of Bayfield has been
returned for another term.
Similarily there will be no
election for any of the Huron-
Perth Separate School Hoard
positions in South Huron.
Greg Fleming of the Mount
Cathiel area will be back as
the representative fOr the
town of Exeter and the
townshipssrne. of Stephen and
Usborne,
Ted Geoffrey, a 27' year
veteran of school boards is
returning as the rep from
after he had announced last
week he would oppose Shaw
and Cameron.
He told the T-A, Monday
that he decided not to fight
the election because he
hasn't been feeling well for
the past week and eQuldn't
see facing the heavy lineup
of meetings over the next
two years.
Boyle said he has meetings
donations there was $60.45
donated at the recent dance
at the Exeter Golf & Country
Club and $70.25 fromUsborne
Central School.
The dance, which was held
in lieu of the rained out golf
tournament, netted an ad-
ditional $273 that went into
the general campaign for
funds.
In contrast to other years,
there will be plenty of ac-
tivity on the election front in
Zurich and surrounding
municipalities.
• Perhaps . the biggest
surprise is in Zurich where
five candidates will be
battling for the four council
seats.
. In addition to incumbents,
Leroy Thiel, Isidore Laporte
and Bob Fisher, antique

Providing that none of the
candidates for council with-

Zurich's first municipal

In Hay township former
Chief cites
stove faults
A faulty wood stove in-
stallation was responsible
for a fire in a trailer owned
by Eugene Webber, two
miles west of Exeter on
Highway 83, Monday mor-
ning. •
Exeter firemen managed
to bring the fire under
control with only slight
damage to the wall of an
adjoining structure which
had been ignited by an over-
heated pipe running through
the wall.
Fire Chief Gary Middleton
outlined the necessary steps
for the home owner to take to
correct the situation before
leaving the scene.
This week, Middleton
again emphasized that there
are a number of area

In filing his last-minute bid
for re-election, Campbell
said he would probably have
to give up his interests in the
local Boy Scout movement to
work council in with his
schedule. He had indicated
earlier that he was not going
to seek re-election due to the
added pressure of business
and his other pursuits.
He also indicated he may
not have filed papers, had
there been more than.the six
candidates. "It's good to
have an election," he stated
as he watched his name go.

Gallagher lost control of
his vehicle on the Kirkton

Hugs are
delayed
A suggestion that next
week be designated "week of
the child" in Exeter failed to
gain any support from
Exeter council, Monday.
The suggestion was made
by Councillor Jay Campbell,
who said the contribution of
local youngsters could be
recognized and also that
people could be encouraged
to "hug some kid once during
the week."
His suggestion caught
most members by total
surprise and it was finally
resolved when Deputy-
Reeve Harold Patteson
suggested members be given
more time to consider the
matter.
Campbell agreed and
withdrew his motion to name
next week for honoring
children.
OKAY CANVASS
The students at Centralia
College have again received
permission from Exeter
council to canvass the town
on behalf of the Arthritis
Society of Canada.
The canvass this year is
planned for Tuesday,
October 2g. Businesses will
be contacted during the day
and homes in the evening,

of the canvass.

The ratepayers of Usborne

the only ones in this area not

Murray Dawson, the in-

moved up to the reeve's post
replacing current Huron
warden Bill Morley who is
retiring in Usborne.
Peter Berendsen is moving
up from a council position to
take over as deputy-reeve.
The other two current
councillors Gerald Prout and
Mervyn Shute will be joined
by newcomer Margaret
Herm Mrs. Hern will be the
first female councillor in
Usborne township history.
In Biddulph Wilson
Hodgins is back as reeve and
Jim Shipley returns as the
deputy-reeve. Acclaimed to
council seats are Wayne
Gibson, Frank Hardy and
Kenneth Lyons.
Trustees for the police
village of Granton will be
Jim Bakker, Elsie Dann and
Robert Foster.
McGillivray
interest high
Eligible voters in the
township of IVIeGillivray will
be faced with a long list of
candidates when the
November 10 election rolls
around.
Reeve Gerald Wright is
being challenged by deputy-
reeve Jack Dorman for the
top position in the township.
Battling for the post of
deputy-reeve will be current
councillors Dianne Mallard
and James Thompson.
Contending for the three
council seats are Barry
Beaman, Wesley Hodgson,
Jacob- Lagerwerf, John
McCann and James
Thompson.
The big battle comes for
the one seat on the Middleaek
Hoard Of Education now held
by Ben Thompson. He is
being challenged by Carol
Itowalchuk, Jacob Lager-
werf, Irene Lynn and
Marilyn McGregor.
