But they stressed that only one pull of a tiny, bit of hair is sufficient, Don't let your hairdresser make several pulls through one hole. Not only is it painful, it creates wide streaks. Highlights are just very thin, fine streaks of lighter colour. Instead of using • permed, and easy to RETRO-FASHION — The look of the 40's is back with soft waves. By JOY SCHEIFELE Construction is about to begin on a further addition at Craigholme Nursing home in Ailsa Craig which will allow for more activity area and office space. Early in 1979, the Craigweil Gradens Board assessed the current programme and it was recognized that a strong need existed for more dining area, office space, and more adequate areas for social, recreational and religious functions. It was also suggested that a connecting link between the Nursing Home and the senior citizens apartments would be beneficial to annex the two, Norbert Schuller,, a London Architect, was consulted . and plans were drawn up accommodatethe needs. Recently a contract was signed with Strybosch Construction of Strathroy, who submitted low bid in competition with eight other contractors tendering bids. The addition will be at- tached to the present service wing at the south west section of the Nursing Home. It will include new ad- ministrative offices, offices for the Dietary Supervisor, Activities Director and Chaplain, and enlarged Board-Education Room, and a large activity area which will be used for social func- tions and religions services. The new activity area is designed toaccotranodate80 to 100 persons. There will also be a new enlarged staff room with change areas for the employees. The connecting link bet- ween the Nursing Home and the senior citizens apart- ments has been designed to include a craft room, tuck shop and an exercise room which will be used by the residents of both facilities. harsh bleach as they did with streaks, hairdressers now use colour to create highlights. Those not interested in highlights, were encourage to change the colour of their hair completely. Even some "punk" styles, where the hair was dyed green, blue or cherry red were shown. But the hairdressers conceded that these styles wouldn't be popular in most shops. The tight, curly "Afro" styles of a few years agohave been replaced with loose, soft perms, Cuts are slightly shorter this fall. Many styles are still in the retro-looks of the forties, with soft finger waves. Long hair should never be left hanging straight. Many styles were shown for braiding or rolling long hair. Clients were encourage to use "rats" -- forms to hold rolled hair in place. At one point, the stylist had a model on her knees on the floor in front of him. He braided her waist length hair, working from the back of her neck forward. When he, was finished, her hair was shaped like a beautiful woven basket at the nape of her neck. The show featured Toronto hairdresser Sabino Di Tacchio, and his team of three men who call them- selves "O'Hair". My husband was somewhat disappointed to find that he had travelled all the way to Vancouver to see someone from Toronto, whom he'd already seen several times. But for us in Ontario, it is reassuring to know that despite the present popularity of the west, Toronto is still Canada's fashion capital. It is also interesting to note that the man who is con- sidered Canada's best hairdresser is bald. Di Tacchio was very good natured about his receding hairline, and joked about it several times during the day. Some American hair- dressers attend Canadian conventions. Apparently, Canadian salons and the styles they are doing are usually one step ahead of their American coun- terparts. By MRS. ANNE WALPER Thanksgiving Service was held in the United Church Sunday amid a setting of fruit, flowers and vegetables. The "Willing Workers" were the group that decorated the church so attractively. Rev. Moore said not to forget to thank God for the bountiful harvest this year. Anthems were sung by both choirs and these added much to the service. We were sorry to hear that Russell Mellin had his hand injured in a farm accident recently. Mrs. Knichtel of Van- couver, accompanied by her daughter Mrs. Dettwiler of Vancouver Island were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Smithers, and John. Ms. Knechtel is an aunt of Mrs. Smithers. Thanksgiving Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs: Graham Eagleson and Martin were Roger and' Janis Dougall and family, Exeter and Joe Eagleson and Joanne Smythe, London. Mr. and Mrs. Morley .Eagleson and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Eagleson, The Regional is being held in Greenway on Wednesday of this week. Dessert and tea are being served at 12:30 noon. Speakers are Mr. and Mrs, Carfr ey Cann, Exeter. The reception and dance followed in the Komoka Community Centre. • A. Walper visited Chateau Gardens Nursing Home on Wednesday. She found Lloyd Brophey, Parry Thompson, Mrs. Ed. T-A photo By MARY ALDERSON I was just glad I wasn't wearing my hair in a beehive, I was the only Outsider in a room filled with Omit 500 hairdressers. All around me were women and girls with perfectly styledhair, im- maculate make-up, and manicured, painted nails, Even the models on stage looked gorgeous, and they were wearing plastic capes, with their hair wrapped in towels and dripping wet. On a recent trip to Van- couver, I was fortunate enough to attend a hair- dressers' convention with my hairdresser husband. It was an entertaining and interesting day. Canada's top stylists told the hair- dressers what's going to be popular this fall, and gave them tips in managing their shops. They took time out for some fun, too. The lacquered, beehive style of two decades ago, was the brunt of many jokes. Laughter rang through the convention room whenever the stylists on stage threatened to give a model a style from year's gone by. Heaven forbid if anyone at that convention still swept her hair high into a beehive and glued in place with several cans of hair spray. She would have been laughed. right out of the room. Like the beehive, back- combing is a no-no, the stylists stressed. Also gone are the'days of wide streaks , A BUSY DAY — Thursday was a busy time at the SHDHS playing field. While the Stratford and South Huron senior football teams watch their cohorts on the playing field, they appear oblivious to the runners heading their way in a ctosS country meet that was faking place at the same time.
