Mrs. Patricia Brown and, it
was quite fascinating to see
the arrangementa take
shape before the audience,

illustrated fn a duet sung by
Mrs. Nan Britton and Mrs,
Shirley Luther, and Mrs.
Elizabeth Riley who was in
charge of the programme,
read a paper on "Citizenship
through Education",
Articles for the
needlepoint display at the
Londen Area convention
October 27 & 28 in St. Marys
are still needed and should
be brought to Mrs, Carl
Payne, R.R. 1, Hensall. Each
branch is also asked to send
a craft article to be sold at
the convention, Mrs. ,Joyce
Pepper will attend as branch
delegate,
Arrangements were
completed for the Dessert
Euchre to be held in the
Legion Hall Wednesday
.October 15 at 1:30 p.m, This
is open to the general public.
Mrs. Joyce Pepper reported
on the Huron County Rally
held in Gorrie, on October 6.
'Four people volunteered to
canvass on • behalf of the
Canadian National Institute
for the blind and it was
decided to make a donation
at the November meeting.

at Carmel Church
Rev. Kenneth Knight was
in charge of . the
Thanksgiving. service at
Carmel Presbyterial
Church, Sunday, delivering
an inspirational message.
The church was beautifully
decorated for the occasion
by the Arnold. Circle, Mrs.
Robert Taylor organist and
choir leader directed the
junior choir in singing "It Is
Good To ,Give Thanks" and
the senior choir sang "Our
Blessings",
The • service on Sunday
October 19 will be withdrawn
owing the Anniversay ser-
vice in Cavenl Presbyterian
Church, Exeter; when the
Rev, James .Ferguson of St.
Andrews Church, Stratford
will be the guest speaker.
A ladies Sunday is planned
for Sunday October 26 when
the time change will be at
1:30 p.m. -A noon luncheon is
arranged for 12 o'clock noon.

mind.

The third meeting of
Hensall No. 2 was
held September .2n at Hensall.

The Members then did
cryptogram. with the . words
pretaining.to slower cookers
and pressure cookers.
The leader then demon-
strated thow to make Cab-
bage Rolls. All members

Legion auxiliary meets
The Hensall Ladies'
Legion Auxiliary met
Tuesday evening with vice-
president Neilands
presiding.' in the absence of
the President Mrs. Beatrice
Uyl who is in hospital,
Donations were voted to
the C.N,I.B. and also to
Westminster hospital. It was
decided to have the "Money
Doll" again this year. Iva
Reid, sports convener
reported on the bowling
tournaments. Flowers were
sent to life members for
Thanksgiving.
Fall rally held at Carmel
The Fall Rally of the
District W.M.S. was held in
Carmel Presbyterian
Church, Hensall on Wed-
nesday, October 8 with a
good attendance. President
Mrs. McAllister of Auburn
!conducted the meeting. Rev.
Kenneth Knight read several
passages of Scripture. The
President of the W.M.S.
welcomed the members and
guests.
Mrs. Malcolm Dougall of
!Exeter who attended the .
Conference for Presbyterian
Women in Ottawa in May
gave a very interesting
report of the Conference.
The Offering was received
by Mrs. Bert Thompson and
Mrs. Lloyd Mousseau and
Offertory prayer was given
by Mrs. Hyde. Mrs. Blanche
Dougall and Mrs. Edith Bell
played a duet "Work for the
Day is Coming".
The guest speaker was
Miss Lynne Longmuir of
Hanover who is in charge of
organizing Church groups.
She gave a very impressive
and humourous message.
Mrs. Psalter Presbyterial
Librarian had a display of
literature. Rev. Knight
PLAN 'TOURNEY
The Hensall Minor Athletic
meeting was held on October
6 at the Arena. The dance on
October 18th was discussed
and tickets passed out with
Andy Imanse looking after
tickets.
There will be free skating
Saturday morning from 10-
12, also a Skate-Athon on
October 25. Coaches and
managers were picked for
the hockey teams. There will
be an intermediate hockey
tournament again this year
November 28,29,30. We
would like to see more people
at our next meeting if
posSible on Monday
November 3, at 7 p.m.

The Thanksgiving meeting.

Monday October f with Mrs.
Freda MacDonald of London
as the speaker. She is head of
the Adult - Basic Education
for Illiterates in. London, and
gave examples of adults who
have, or are, attending the
school, to learn, to read and
write, twenty-two percent of
adults throughout Canada
have this handicap with
skills less than Grade 7 level
and 9 percent cannot read or
write at all. Most cases have
suffered family disruptions
in a major way during
childhood and , feel isolated
with their problem. Learning
to readand write to them IS.
like seeing for the first time
and they are for ever
grateful when they receive
successes to any degree.
The communication
committee had charge of the
programme and the speaker
was introduced by Mrs.
RogersonWilliam and
thanked and presented with
a cheque by Mrs. Carl
Payne.
Chairing Ahe meeting was
Mrs. Hans Gerstenkorn,
U.C.W. president who
opened with a poem
"Natures Thanksgiving".
The devotion was led by
Mrs. Robert Cook who told a
story of a beggar who
showed his thankfulness for
a healthy body by bringing a
precious gift to his King.
