Council in learning that there is not a sewer con- nection in front of, this property agreed to the exemption. Mr. Geiger will be returned to the Hensall hydro and water systems, As, a Tuckersmith resident he has been paying a double water rate, A request will be made to. We thank Wesley Willis for the use of their hall. W.M.S. hold Thanksgiving The W.M.S. of Carmel Presbyterian Church held their Thanksgiving Meeting on Monday evening with Mrs. Robert M. Bell in charge of the Devotional. Mrs. E. Rannie read a passage of Scripture "Always Give Thanks to Our Lord & Saviour" and Mrs. Alex McGregor read a passage containing the words "Dear God We Thank Thee". Mrs. Robert Bell gave an outstanding message on "Thanksgiving" and led in prayer. President Mrs. Harvey Hyde presided for the business and gave a Thanksgiving poem. Arrangements were com- pleted for the Fall Rally being held in Carmel Presbyterian Church. The Glad Tiding sub- scription are now due. An invitation was received from the Senior W.M.S. of and Barbara Kirktam Auxiliary in Seaforth for their Fall Thank-Offering on October 16 at 2 p.m. The visiting Committee for October -are Mrs. Skea and Mrs. Wm. Bell. The annual bazaar will be held November i at 3 p.m. Mrs. Hyde closed the meeting with the Benedic- tion. Mrs. Al Hoggarth presided for the meeting of the Ladies' Aid which followed after reading a Thanksgiving message she led in prayer. Several items of business were dealt with and Mrs. R. Taylor reported plans were well under way for the ladies' Sunday OctOber 26 when Mrs. Kenneth Knight would be the guest speaker, also a ladies choir will provide music. The next meeting will be held November 3. Chiselhurst U.C.W. The Chiselhurst U.C.W. held their monthly meeting in the afternoon of October 7 in the school-room of the Church. The meeting was opened with the Theme Song and the Theme Prayer. President Mrs. Mary Brintnell read a poem "Bless this Home", The Roll Call was answered by the 23rd Psalm in unison. Vera Ross conducted the Thanksgiving worship. Hymn 637 was sung and Dorothy Brintnell read "Counting Our Blessings at Thanksgiving". The prayer was followed by singing a hymn and Thank You „cards were read and correspon- dence dealt with. The Parament for the pulpit was on display. Due to a change to provincial assessment in 1976, Mr. Geiger's. assessment was changed from Hensall to Tnekerstnith township, Mr. Geiger attending Monday's meeting said, 41 have paid taxes for 70 years. to Hensall and should never have been separated:" The singing of, "Come Ye Thankful People, Come" opened the Thanksgiving service at Hensall United Church on Sunday morning and throughout the service to the closing hymn, "Thank You Lord, on this Day" the dominate note was Thanksgiving and Praise to God for His Goodness to us. A large congregation heard Rev. Stan McDonald speak on the subject of, The Dominate Note of Real Religion." The choir sang a very beautiful anthem, "A Thanksgiving Prayer with Mrs. Mary Moffatt at the organ. The children's story was, "Count Your Many Blessings" and then the congregation joined in singing the old loved hymn, "Count Your Many Blessings." The church was beautifully decorated on the Harvest theme, by the Unit two ladies of the U.C.W. Bill Fuss greeted the congregation anu David Rowcliffe and Scott Jesney were the ushers. Next Sunday evening a special Evening Fellowship Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. with Miss Iris Castle, a missionary to New Zealand, as guest speaker; she will also .show her slides of her Mission work. Bible Study group meets The Interdenominational Bible Study session opened on Tuesday morning at the United Church with an ex- cellent attendance. Following a period of Gospel singing, the group began their study of the Gospel of St. John with getting to know "John, the man" and the purpose and some of the characteristics of his writings. The group meets every Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Council endorsed a cons cern from AMC regarding the possible discontinuance of the community services contribution program which assists Canadian municipalities with neighbourhood improvement and water and sewer projects in a 1078 com- mitment to a long-term agreement with all provinces by the Federal Government, A request 'from Bell Telephone for municipal consent for buried cables and pedestals along Lorne Avenue was granted. Village PUC and works department to be notified 48 hours before digging starts. A resolution, was passed requiring any services going underground be installed through roadways by boring rather than digging. A bylaw was passed naming officers for the Hensall fire department. They are fire chief Gary Maxwell,. deputy-chief Len Huffman, captains Jim Hyde and Bruce Moir and engineers Don Reid, Frank Varley and Peter Swaan. The Huron Board of Education has given council assurance that bus tran- sportation 'for pupils from proposed annexation properties along Highway 4 be continued until sidewalks have been installed. Reeve Haiold Knight said this takes care of the last objection to annexation. Four building permits were approved. They were to Hensall Livestock Sales, a new roof; Ken Pollock, chimney and Karen Richardson, house addition. Total value $9,000, Building inspector Her- man Van Wieren also reported making 14 in- spections. Councillor Paul Neilands reported that the Com- munity Centre auditorium was rented each Friday and Saturday night for the months of November and December, The next council meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Inglis and Mrs, Vera Smith of Regina, Saskatchewan and Mrs. M, Oldham of Collingwood visited this past week with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fuss and Rev, McDonald. The visitors are cousins of Mrs, Fuss and Rev, McDonald, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Hoffman of Exeter and Mrs. Tom Melvin and Mary-Ann of Walkerton visited this past week at the Manse with Rev. McDonald and his mother, Mrs. Carl McDonald while their cousins Mrs. Vera Smith and Mr, and Mrs. Inglis of Regina visited in this area. Mrs, Smith was born in Stephen Township, a daughter of the late Charles Hoffman and Fanny Williams, and moved to Saskatchewan as a small girl. She has not visited this area since 1938. Mr. Charles Mickle, Hamilton spent part of the Thanksgiving weekend with his mother Mrs. Laird Mickle and they both were guests Sunday and Monday with her daughter and son- in-law Mr. & Mrs. Ross MacMillan and family in Waterloo, Mrs. Beatrice Uyl un- derwent surgery in UniVersity Hospital, London last week. Mrs. Mabel Munn returned . home after spending Thanksgiving with her daughter and son-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Don Gooding & Dale at Parkhill.
