Frayne Chevrolet Oldsmobile Ltd.
. Selected For B.P.'s
"LAUNCH OF SERVICE CAMPAIGN"
Exeter's Frayne Chevrolet Oldsmobile Ltd., BP
Dealer, at Highways 4 and 83, Exeter North, was
selected by BP Canada to participate in the launching
of the company's new "Service is Back" campaign.
Mike Williamson, together with BP Sales Represen-
tative Les Pearce, officially welcomed BP's "Mr. Ser-
vice is Back". Dressed in a 1920's uniform and driving
a 1947 Cadillac, "Mr. Service is Back" is visiting BP
outlets throughout Ontario and Quebec to underline the
company's renewed emphasis on service and courtesy
at BP's pump island.
Frayne Chevrolet Oldsmobile Ltd. has been a BP
Dealer since 1929 and now has a loyal clientele in the
local community. Mike attributes his success to the
type of "old fashioned" service desired by today's
motoring public.
A return to courtesy and old time service is the
theme of BP's new campaign. "It's what the public is
demanding and what BP's has pledged to deliver" a
company spokesman added.
Service is back in Exeter and indications are that it
is here to stay. Drop by and visit Frayne Chev. Olds,
BP, the journey into yesteryear should be fun!

Fail to make finals
a Centennials win,n but lose
He hit Peter Tuckey on a 24
yard toss and connected with
brother Bruce good for 17
yards and the final touch-
down of the afternoon.
Doug Hoffman converted
the final two major scores.
On the ground, the Pan-
thers picked up 2,30 yards
and 165 yards through the
air. Along with 68 yards in
penalties it gave a total
offence of 463 yards.
Stratford gained 36 yards
rushing, 35 in passing and 50
due to penalties.
Norm Regier led the
ground attack with seven
carries good for 98 yards and
Rick Lindenfield gained 92
yards on 19 tries at the line.
Greg Prout led the defence
with 11 key tackles. Next
came Dennis McBride, Doug
Hoffman, Dave Delbridge
and Jim Siddall with five big
stops each.
Adjectives that have not been used so far to
describe the last two games of the National baseball
league finals are probably not in the dictionary.
Everything that could happen did and just a little
bit. more, A triple play that turned out to• be a double
play, conferences with the league president, appeal
plays and other than good base running featured the
last two contests.
Canadians who were disappointed with the demise
of the Montreal Expos can take a little heart from the
great performance of Canadian native Terry Puhl in a
Houston uniform.
Puhi broke the NL playoff record with 10, the most
hits in a five game series and was the star for his
team. He also stole a couple of bases and was a consis-
tent threat at the plate and on the bases.
We were hoping for a Kansas City-Houston World.
Series which would featured speed and the basics of
baseball.
Look for some of the Philadelphia bats to come to
life. Fellows like Schmidt and McBride were pretty
well throttled by Houston bats, but, they should come
roaring back this week.
Despite all the expert opinions, we will call the
Phillies in six games with Schmidt, Rose and McGraw
being the stars.
The home run power of fellows like Mike Schmidt
and Greg Luzinski of the Philadelphia Phillies was
receiving lots of publicity in all sections of the media,
but, we think there is one point being overlooked and it
is very important.
Who was on first base when Schmidt's homer
eliminated the Expos and again when Luzinski's last
blast beat the Astros in the first game of the NL final.
None other than Pete Rose, better known as Charlie
Hustle.
The ability of Rose to get on base is uncanny. It's
been his type of play and contribution since coming
over from the Reds that has made the Phillies so com-
petitive.
Congratulations, girls
A chorus of loud cheers are due to the South Huron
District High School junior girls basketball team.
The girls under the capable guidance of coach Pat
Rowe won three straight games and an invitational
basketball tournament recently in Wingham.
In addition to taking the team championship, South
Huron co-captain Faye Gaiser was named most
valuable player in the entire tournament.
Big games Thursday
The two football teams at South Huron District
High School will face their biggest tests of the young
Huron-Perth Conference season Thursday afternoon of
this week.
The Panthers will be facing the Vikings from
Goderich in a doubleheader. The junior game starts at
1:30 p.m. with the seniors to follow immediately
thereafter.
The South Huron clubs are undefeated to date and
know that the Goderich are always tough to beat.
Hawks start Friday
The Exeter Hawks start the regular OHA Western
Junior "D" regular schedule this Friday night.
In their first home start the Hawks will meet their
arch rivals, the Lucan Irish at the South Huron Rec
Centre. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
After losing an exhibition game by a 5-4 score to
Lucan, the Hawks bounced back to score decisive vic-
tories over Mitchell and Seaforth.
Manager Fred Mommersteeg is enthusiastic about
his team's chances this year. He says they will be a
fast skating club and should score lots of goals.
Anyone for ringette
The game of ringette, a modified version of hockey
for girls will be introduced in Zurich this winter.
Heather Redick who is the organizer invites
anyone from Exeter or any part of the South Huron
area to participate.
Girls from the 14-18 years of age will be more than
welcome. For more information they may call Mrs.
Redick at 236-4945.
There is a possibility that Zurich could field a
team in a regional ringette league which may be
organized by the Western Ontario Athletic Associa-
tion.
Ringette uses basic hockey rules but is played with
a straight stick and a ring substituting for the puck.
Salmon are coming
There was plenty of activity around the dam at
Exeter Riverview park over the weekend as a large
number of fishermen tried to land the visiting salmon.
One angler that was lucky was George Dobbs with
a 34 incher somewhere in the vicinity of 20 pounds.
The salmon are also reported to be quite prevalent
in the Bayfield area.
Hockey starts
With the 1980-81 National Hockey league season
now underway it's interesting to look at the results of
pre-season exhibition games.
While the various teams played a different number
of games and against a wide variety of opposition,
some played minor league teams while two others
were in Europe for a few games, our results are based
on the percentage of points gained.
Leading the list as the best team in pre-schedule
play were the Los Angeles Kings. Next came, the Win-
nipeg Jets, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings and.
Washington Capitals.
It's interesting to note that three of the less
Successful teams during last year were in the top five
as the 21 NHL clubs warmed up for serious action.
They were Winnipeg, Detroit and Washington.
The enthusiasm in the Detroit Red Wings camp
this year seems to be a lot different from recent years.
Ted Lindsay appears to have his charges fired up and
we Would hope he can continue with this pattern for the
full schedule.
