Conlgtandmenta" was recommenced Sunday morning in Lucan United Church when Rev, Keith Brown spoke an the 7th, which is God's law guarding the sanctity and preser- vation of the home, saying that 60 percent of the problems in the home stem from the breaking of this law. "In God's plan man and woman were meant to be complimentary to each other," said Mr, Brown"and the marriage is it's fulfillment in Him". Mr. Brown closed with the fervent prayer that we might all come to Christ and remain with Him that He may keep us pure always. Verna Ibbotson gave a "minute talk" for the M. & S. Committee on"Time on Our Hands" and stating that 72 percent of our M. & S. con- tributions are in. Dale and Linda Froats and their three children welcomed members at the door and Tabatha and Neil assisted their parents in receiving the offering. Members of the Official Board are remined of their meeting tonight Wednesday at 8 p.m., a change in date, and tomorrow morning at 9:45 all women of the community are invited to the "Prayer & Share" group. More singers are needed in the choir which, at present, meets at 8:30 each Thursday evening. Next Sunday will be the annual "Award Sunday" at the 11:15 service. All S.S. Children will be remaining for this service, and parents are especially invited to share in their children's achievements. Time to register family told how they enjoy being part of the family. The youngest Terri is from a broken home as her mother has M.S. and father left home. The Kyllonen family make her a part of their family. David Kyllonen spoke about the Great Physician, Jesus, who as a physician, can see people's needs. The physician seal has an eye, a heart, and a hand on it. Jesus saw peoples' needs with His eyes, reached out with His hand to heal them, and had a heart to help them. Bill Davies opened the Sunday morning service leading in the singing, and reading the scripture, stressing that we as Christians are a pleasure to God, to reign with Him someday, Harold Fletcher played his guitar, Ken Allen his violin, and Mrs. Lorraine Armitage the piano for the singing. Mr. Marlene Thornton beautifully sang "I Know my God is Real, and I Believe He's Coming Back". Mrs. Geri Fletcher talked to the Junior Church about problems. Using Problem boxes, she had the children put them into a bag. Then one little girl carried the bag back to her seat.(Mrs. Fletcher read scripture about Jesus taking our burdens, as we give our problems to God.) Harold Fletcher played his guitar Wilful damage set at $500 During the week officers of the Lucan detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police investigated 51 general occurrences. Included were four in- stances of wilful damage with property damage es- timated at $500 along with two thefts with property stolen valued at $175. The first of four accidents during the week occurred Sunday at 1:40 a.m. on Lucan's Main street and in- volved vehicles driven by Robert Jones. Straffordville and Helen Hominsky, Lucan. Constable D. Marshall listed damages at $1,800. Wednesday at 1 a.m. again on the Main street of Lucan a vehicle driven by Brian McCoy. Dashwood struck a sign post. Constable J.A. Wilson investigated 'and set damages at $300. Vehicles driven by Aileen Playford. Owen Sound and Robert Rae. London collided on Highway 4 at Elginfield at 12:05 p.m.. Saturday. Damages were listed at $2,- 700 by Corporal T. Collins. The same day at 11:35 a.m. Constable B.D. Munro listed damages at $1,200 when vehicles driven by Gordon Hetherington. Lon- don and Joseph Morgan, R.R. 2, Ailsa Craig were in collision on the Main street of Lucan. This should cause us to examine our lives and to change them. Prophecy, as in the Bible prepares us for what is going to happen. When we know this we can understand and explain world happenings, with faith that God has all things in control. Saturday afternoon will be conference with ordination of men for the ministry. Youth rally follows. United church school news Something new has been added to Lucan United Church School! An informal discussion group for mothers of Sunday School age children has been formed to discover what Mark's gospel actually says about Jesus, to think about how He can meet the deep needs of people like us today, to share your own thoughts and questions and to grow with others, who are also searching. It will be held while your children are in Sunday School, 10 a.m. beginning September 28, in the Church office for the present, and the leader will be Jean Brown. Come as you are! Did you know that this is the 200th Anniversary year of the Sunday School as such? A committee has been formed in the Lucan Church to see how best this great event can be celebrated by our particular Sunday School, with a birthday party on Sunday, November 2. President Mildred Hirtzel welcomed members of the Sushine and Busy Buddies' seniors groups to their meeting Thursday af- ternoon, and opened with "OCanada". Some kindly member had donated a large box of freshly dug beets, with bags, for members to help themselves to a few as far as they would go. An invitation to all Seniors was read from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 540, to help them celebrate "Legion Week" by attending a card party in the hall this afternoon, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. with refreshments at the close of the party. Most of those present indicated their intention to attend, particularly after the Bowling Club members stated they would start bowling at 12:30 rather than 1:30, in order to go. Ethel Crouch reported on prices for paper products an Elsie Gibson reported for the lunch committee, both for the Montrose Group dinner. After a rather lengthy discussion it was agreed to hold the dinner in the lower hall at the Arena because of easy access, large cloakroom and large washrooms. A definite menu was deferred for one week. Verna Dowdall is the only member celebrating a birthday this week and the President expressed the group's Best Wishes, Members of the Busy Buddies' commenced their Japanese, embroidery under the direction of Mrs. B. In the absence of the president, Marion Hodgins, the Past-Pres. Edythe Murdy, led in the opening prayer and prayers in unison, and took the Meditation on"For the Love of God" from the Living Message, based on 1 Johri 3:7-12. Kay Haggar read an in- teresting list of memorial items which had been placed in the church down through the years and this list is to be brought up to date by an historic committee. Members of the group will mend the old hymn books when the bale is packed at the Parish Hall at their next meeting on Wednesday, October 1. Two subscriptions to "The Living Message" will be placed in Craigholme Nursing Home, for the use of all patients, Mrs. Murdy read an ar- ticle on "Working", based on various Scriptures and ending with the thought that one should"work for spiritual reward and not think too much of material gain". The craft group prize was won by Jean Hodgins, and The Lucan pee wee and bantam soccer clubs won playoff championships dur- ing the week, The pee wees defeated Ex- eter 2-0 and Taxandria 7-0 while the bantams triumph- ed by scores of 6-0 over Ilderton 2-1 over Taxandria and 6-0 against Ailsa Craig- Nairn. In the pee wee victory over Exeter, Jesse Crawford and Michael Pratt scored the goals while Jeff Shipley recorded the shutout. Ted Hall and Michael Pratt each scored two goals in the win over Taxandria while Jesse Crawford, Chris Van Boxmeer and Lester Arts booted singles. Jeff two lucky prizes were won by Kathleen Neil and Marie Turner. Lunch was provided by' Laura and Percy Williams and Eva and. Alex Young. Shipley and Brent Fowles shared the shutout. Dave DeBoer and Jamie Pitt were two goal scorers as the bantams blanked Ilderton 6-0 while single scores were booted by Eric Drost and Paul Simons. • Scoring one goal a piece in the win over Taxandria were Frank Toonders and Paul Simons. Craig Branch and the Sea Cadet Corps from London, marched behind Pipe Major Roy Ellis, from the Legion Hall, to' Holy Trinity Anglican Church, for a service to open "Legion Week", Legion President Ken Wood read the Old Testament lesson and secretary Sid Daley the New Testament lesson. It being "Holy Cross Day" on the Anglican Church Calendar, the Rector, Rev, Bruce Pocock, spoke on "The Sacrifice of the Cross", asking "Do we of the "me" and "I" generation have any concept of what it means to be self-sacrificing as Christ sacrificed himself and as those in two conflicts sacrificed themselves?" Next Sunday the Lucan Youth Group will present a Contemporary Service of Worship with special music and Barb Bannerman, one of the leaders, will speak on "The Warm Fuzzies". During the business session' chaired by leader Jane Forster the date of Sunday, November 9th was set for the annual Fall Fellowship Luncheon, the October meeting was put back one week to the 22nd instead of the 15th, and $50.00 was voted to one of the Beaver Colonies, led by Linda Froats, to purchase scarves. David Kyllonen told how, after travelling for 25 years with Couriers, he is very happy to be now travelling with his wife, three daughters and one foster daughter. They sang beautifully as a group, starting with "There's a Warm Family Feeling". Mrs. Juli Kyllonen told of how after 22 years of marriage this is the first time they have lived together as a family before she sang "Jesus Give me More of You". • Judi Kyllonen used sign language to show how the deaf sing " Throw out the The Guide and Brownie Lifeline".
