show foreign coins
The September meeting of
the Clandeboye Women's
Institute was held Wed-
nesday evening at the home
of Mrs. Jack Hodgson.
Thirteen members and two
visitors answered the roll
call by showing a foreign
coin or stamp.
The topic for the meeting
was Citizenship and World
Affairs under the Con-
venership of Mrs. Hodgson,
who arranged to have her
daughter-in-law show slides
and tell about " their ex-
periences in Nigeria while
husband, Paul, was on a
hydro project there for two
years.
Business items were
numerous. A visit to the new
London Art Gallery October
15 was decided on.
Mr. Mt Hodgins reported
that the Middlesex County
Library had photocopied the
Clandeboye Tweedspuir
History and placed copies in
the Lucan and Ailsa Craig
libraries as well as a copy for
Clandeboye W.I.
Mrs. Harold Hardy and
Mrs. Art , Hodgins
represented the Clandeboye
W.I. at the Western Fair
Ladies Luncheon Monday.
Mrs. DeWeerd assisted by
Marie Cunningham are 4-H
leaders for the fall project,
Mrs. Ed Armstrong and
Mrs. Arnold Blake provided
lunch and assisted the
hostess for a social time
following the meeting.
U CW meets
Mrs. Gerald Lynn was
hostess for the September
meeting of the United
Church Women on Tuesday
evening. Brinsley U.C.W.
were guests. Mrs. Wilmer
Scott was in charge of
devotions. Mrs. Ida
Hamilton, Parkhill, showed
slides and commented on her
trip to Japan.
Dairy club
Dave Dixon, Paul
Groenewegen, Rick and
Wendy Lee, David and Judy
Marshall, participated in the
Middlesex County ,4-H Fair
calf competition at Western
Fair Saturday.
In the Guernsey division,
David Marshall received the
Grand Champion and Rick
Lee, Reserve Champion.
Wendy Lee was runnerup in
the Middlesex County Dairy
Princess contest, held a
week ago in Ilderton
Back to school
Students in this area
continuing or beginning their
studies at University of
Western Ontario are Glenn
Cunningham, Douglas and
Allan Murray and Leslie
Harrison.
Marie Cunningham is on a
four month work semester
before returning to Fan-
shawe in Fashion Mer-
chandising. Kim Cun-
ningham is cortinuing her
Professional Secretarial
course at Fanshawe.
Tracey Cunningham is
taking a course at Marvel
Hairdressing.
Lori Morgan is a student at
Ivan R. Sales Beauty School.
Dorothy Cunningham is
attending Sir George Ross
school in London in the
nursing and child care
course. Janis Kestle has
completed her course in
Interior Design at Fan-
shawe.
A surprise •
Mrs. Agnes Hornell who is
still vacationing at her home
in the village had a surprise
Thursday when her niece
Agnes and Jimmy Creeth of
Bangor, Northern Ireland
dropped in for a visit.
The name, Clandeboye, is
familiar to the Creeths as
they live near Lord Duf:
ferin's Estate in Ireland
which is called "Clan-
deboye". They are visiting
Canada for the first time and
are staying with relatives in
Ancaster. Although, Mrs.
Hornell is Scotch descent she
was brought up in Ireland.
Personals
Ruth and Alan Hill
returned Saturday from a
most enjoyable holiday that
took them to Cape Cod,
Mass., Newport, Rhode
Island, and Vermont. In
Stowe, Vermont they visited
the former home of the Von
Trapp family of "Sound of
Music", fame.
mrs. Mary Jane Carter,
Vancouver, B.C. is staying
with Mrs. Viola Carter while
visiting her mother, Mrs.
Myrtle Brownlee of
Craigholme Nursing Home,
Ailsa Craig. John and
Patricia Brownlee and
family of Gravenhurst were
weekend visitors with Mr.
Viola Carter and John's
sister, Mary Jane Carter.
Mrs. Gerald Lynn was in
Georgetown on the weekend
to attend a reunion of the
Scottish Country Dancers
held at "The Mill" the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Hall.
Marilyn Groenewegen,
Pat Hodgins and Laura
McLean were on a bus trip
Saturday to the Blue Jays
ball game in Toronto. Due to
the rainy weather the game
was delayed but they finally
saw a few innings before
returning home rather
damp.
The U.C.W. of Clandeboye
United Church catered for
the Hodgins - Wonnacott
wedding dinner held at the
Lucan Community Centre on,
Saturday.
Julie McGill of our com-
munity assisted by June
Henry displayed "Julie's
Hats" at a boutique at the
WPstorn Fair.
