at Kirkton

The Anglican Church
Women held their September
meeting in the church
basement Thursday evening.
Mrs. Gerald Paul presided.
A short business meeting
was held, then Garth
Blackler and Gerald Paul
showed colored slides of
their trips to England and
Scotland this summer.
Lunch was served' and a
social time spent.
Mrs. Howard Bearss has
returned home after surgery
in St. Joseph Hospital
London, her daughter Mrs.
Ostler and family of Calgary
is staying with her.
Mrs. Joan McCormick
accompanied by Mr. and
Mrs. Bernard McCormick,
Meagan and Erin, Wocelham
attended the wedding of Bob
Hanniman in Renfrew on the
holiday weekend. The bride
and groom have been
visiting with the IVIcCor-
micks this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Rea Stephen
were Sunday dinner guests
of Mr. and Mrs. John Bar-
ned, London.

Centralia U.C.W. met at the
church with 20 present.
Donna Smith opened the
meeting with a poem. The
best things in life are free
and welcomed everyone.
Minutes were read and
approved and the treasurer's
report given.
Freda Railings announced
the Presbyterial is at
Greenway October 15 at
12:30. The annual meeting
for the March of Dimes is to
be held in Stratford October
18 at the Kiwanis Com-
munity Centre.
Thank you card was read
from Etta Powe thanking the
ladies for serving at Elaine's
wedding. All Canada Packer
labels to be handed In at the
October meeting after that
they will be discontinued.
The committee in charge
of the programme were
Verda Lightfoot, Irene
Theander and Donna Smith.
A poem entitled Decision
was read by Verda Lightfoot.
Hymn, Beyond the Sunset
was sung. Scripture was
read by Donna Smith. Irene
Theander gave the prayer.
Marion Deline lead a sing
song accompanied by Lois
Wilson at the piano.
Donna Smith introduced
Mr. & Mrs. Dave McClure
who showed slides that were
taken from the air and on the
ground of the surrounding
territory. They were very
much enjoyed.
A plant donated by the
committee, for donations to
cancer for Terry Fox, was
won by Iva Blair.

The September meeting
for United Church Women
will be held in the
schoolroom of the church on
Fox fund
Thursday evening at 8:30.
Mr. Dave McClure will be
the guest speaker and will
show pictures. Ladies are
reminded to bring ,their
pennies to the meeting.
Mr. Orme Pollock of
Kincardine was a guest for a
couple of days last week at
the home of his sister, Mrs.
Lorne Hicks, and Mrs. Sid
Henry of Listowel was a

returned to Guelph to
resume her studies at the
University.

was a Friday evening caller

Church services were
resumed in the United
Church Sunday morning
with Mr. Paul Schott in
charge of the service. He
used the divinety of Jesus as
recorded in John 1 verses 1-
17 as a Biblical background
upon which to base his
thoughts.
The Centralia Quartet; -
Messrs. Doug Gill, Bob
Blair, Bob Heywood and
Sam Skinner sang two
numbers that were greatly
appreciated by their
listeners, Mrs. Gill played
the piano accompaniment
for the quartet .

program.
Mrs. Murray Dawson was
in charge of a pass along gift
game, When the music
stopped whoever had the gift
had to give suggestions to the
bride, pr something funny
that had happened during
their marriage. Mrs. Bob
Sharp received the gift for
the most humorous story.
Mrs. Bev Hamilton and
Mrs. Bob Miller each had'a
contest. Miss Diane
Hamilton played a piano
solo which was much en-
joyed.
Mrs. Chas. Dalrymple
read a nicely worded ad-
dress, and Jennifer
Dalrymple wheeled in a toy
decorated wheel barrow
filled with many beautiful
and useful gifts. After
opening the gifts, Valerie
thanked everyone and in-
vited to her open reception
on this Friday evening,
Lunch of sandwiches,
squares, tea and coffee
brought an enjoyable
evening to a close. There
were about SO in attendance.
