The Crediton Cowgirls
have taken a two games to
one lead over Parkhill in
their best-of-five series for
the district ladies fastball
championship.
Parkhill evened the series
Friday night with a 13-5 vic-
tory. but, the Crediton club
bounced back Monday night
to win by a score of 9-5.
The fourth game of the
series will played in Parkhill
Friday night with a fifth con-
test if necessary back in
Crediton Monday night at 9
p.m.
Merna Scott was the win-
ning pitcher for Crediton.
She allowed eight well
scattered hits. Theresa
McGee took the loss for
Parkhill.
A double by Jean Gray and
singles by Yvonne Creces
and Janet Sadler produced
the first three Parkhill runs
in the second inning. In the
Parkhill fourth Yvonne
Creces was safe on an error
and scored on hits by Janet
Sadler and Beth Brass.
Their fifth and final run
Lady golfers
end season
came in the top of the sixth
on a home run by pitcher
Theresa McGee.
Deb. Lord singled and
scored the first Crediton run
in the first inning on a triple
by Fay Hayter,
In the third a double by
Sandy O'Neill and singles by
Wilma Lagerwerf, Fay
Hayter and Merna Scott sent
Exeter Centennials and
Taxandria Falcons tied 2-2 in
a closely run Ausable soccer
match at Canner's field,
Sunday.
Exeter led 1-0 at the inter-
val, but had to overcome a
two-goal rally by their
visitors in the second half to
get the draw.
John Rasenberg and
Alfons Weersink had the
Centennial goals. and Mike
Klyne and Case VandenBoer
those for Taxandria.
Rasenberg scored at 35
minutes on a penalty-kick
after Taxandria defenders
had tripped striker John
Mickle who was open with
the ball in the 18-yard box. In

fourth without the aid of a
bit and hits by Shelley Weber
and Sherry Pfaff scored two

The final Crediton score
came in the sixth when Mer-
na Scott was safe on an error
and came home on Fay
Hayter's third hit of the
the second half, Klyne
brought the Falcons level
with a headed ball at 50
minutes.
Seven minutes later, Tax-
andria led 2-1 when
VandenBoer hooked a pass
into the Exeter net. But at 65
minutes Alfons Weersink got
the draw goal for the Centen-
nials by driving in a rebound
from a corner-kick taken by
Murray Stewart.
The game completed
regular play for the Centen-
nials, who finished unbeaten
in their last seven games
with five wins and two ties.
There season record was
eight wins, three ties and
five losses.
Playoffs begin September
28, with finalists in a series
of round robin matches prior
to a championship game on
neutral grounds. Before Sun-
day's game. Exeter stood
third in the league.
Games elsewhere next
week, by teams with a game
in hand, will likely result in
Exeter standing fourth in
order, however, from Grand
Bend Colonials. Nairn Car-
dinals and West Williams
United.

Seven runs in the bottom
of the fourth inning allowed
the Parkhill girls to gain the
victory in Friday's second
game.
The winners scored three
times in the first frame on a
Beth Brass triple and singles
by Janet Sadler and Chris
Brydges,
Base hits by Beth Brass,
Theresa McGee, Judy
Schram and Chris Brydges
were responsible for the big
seven run rally.
The first Crediton run
came in the second as Wilma
Lagerwerf singled and
scored on a similar hit by
Fay Hayter.
Sherry Pfaff walked and
scored in the Crediton third
and Deb Lord's homer in the
sixth sent Michelle
Vandergunst home ahead of
her.
Fay' Hayter singled and
scored the final Crediton run
in the seventh,
Theresa McGee was the
winning pitcher for Parkhill
holding the opposition to five
hits, Deb Lord and Merna
Scott shared pitching duties
for the Cowgirls.
The two football teams at
South Huron District High
School showed excellent
promise in exhibition games
played Friday,
The juniors under the
direction of coaches Dave
Cox and Colin Lowndes
scored an impressive 19-0
win over Stratford Nor-
thwestern while the senior
Panthers dropped a 14-12
decision to Arthur Voaden of
St. Thomas,
The H-P season gets un-
derway Tuesday afternoon,
September 23 when the South
Huron Panthers play a
doubleheader in Listowel.
In Friday's' junior game
after a scoreless first
quarter, Tony Jones scored
the first touchdown on a pass
from Chris Van Gerwen, Van
Gerwen booted the extra
point and the score was 7-0.
Later in the first half, the
same combination was again
successful with Jones taking
a Van Gerwen pass good for
20 yards and another six
pointer.
The final Panther touch-
down came in the fourth
period when Scott Turnbull
lugged the ball over from the
two yard line.
South Huron topped
Stratford in first downs by
nine to five.and picked up 111
yards on their rushing game.
While the senior Panthers
dropped Friday's game in St.
Thomas by a score of 14-12,
coach Ron Bogart Was
pleased with his team's
performance.
Bogart commented
Monday, "our defence
played a super game and
with a little polishing of our
offence we should be a real
contender".
The seniors open the
regular Huron-Perth con-
ference season next Tuesday
afternoon in Listowel.
The coach continued, "we
are a little low in numbers
with only 28 on the roster,
but, everybody will get a
chance to play".
The Panthers scored two
touchdowns in Friday's first
half of play to take a 12-7
lead.
St. Thomas scored their
first touchdown on a long 75
yard pass and run play in the
first seven minutes of the
game.
The Panthers came
roaring back with thequar-
terback throwing 25 yards
to Doug Fischer for a touch-
down and five yards to Doug

The first South Huron
convert attempt was
blocked. The kick after the
second touchdown was good,
but, the locals were offside.
The next try was again
blocked.
A couple of intercepted
passes and penalties led to
the second St. Thomas
touchdown with about three
minutes left in the game,
The Panthers with three
good runs and a Dave Shaw
to brother Bruce Shaw pass
moved the ball into a field
goal situation with 15
seconds left.
Coach Bogart called for a
running play to move the ball
in front of the goal posts, but,
a mixup in the time occurred
and the game was over
before the three pointer
could be attempted.
Bogart praised his line of
Dave Delbridge, Dale
Kerslake, Dennis McBride,
Al Gaiser and Ed Willis and
linebackers Greg Prout, Jeff
Rowe , Doug Raymond and
Doug Hoffman,
The coach added, "Then
we also brought in Jamie
Chaffe and Jim Siddall and
they performed well"

The Crescent Rolls could
wrap up their second con-
secutive A championship of
the Exeter and area men's
rec fastball league with a
victory over Hensall tonight
in Exeter,
The Rolls lead their
Legion counterparts two
games to nothing in their
best of five A final, On
Wednesday the Crescent
Rolls defeated Hensall 5-1 to
take a stranglehold on the
series,
The winner of the A final
will take on the Carpet-
baggers in a one game series
to determine the league
playoff champion.
