The Kirkton Midget girls
clinched the Tri-County
league playoff championship
Thursday night wilt., an 8-3
victory over Mount Brydges.
In the round robin playoff
Kirkton won two games over
Byron and one against
Mount Brydges along with a
previous Mount Brydges loss
to Byron making it impossi-
ble for either club to catch
Kirkton.
Kirkton came up with
some good fielding plays to
stop any prospective Mount
Brydges rallies.
A long hit by a Mount
Brydges player to deep left
field was thrown in by out-
fielder Laurie Simpson to
shortstop and then to borne
to nip the batter at the plate
in trying to stretch it into a
homer.
More trouble was averted
in the bottom of the seventh
when Mount Brydges had the
base loaded and trailing by
only one run and Joan
Cooper snagged a hard line
drive and turned it into a
double play.
Brenda Iredale with a tri-
ple and single led the
Kirkton batters at the plate.
Joan Cooper and Patti Willis
contributed two singles
apiece while Jane Simpson
tripled and Jane Sims added
a single.
Sunday Jane Simpson and
Brenda Iredale represented
Kirkton on an all star midget
team in St. Marys,
Joan Cooper was chosen
for the team's
sportsmanship award.
Kirkton team members
are Brenda Iredale, Jane
Sims. Barb Down, Joan
Cooper. Patti Willis', Jane
Simpson. Laurie Simpson,
Marg Miller. Cindy Down,
Janice Burgin, Corinne
