Student council president Doug Raymond said the teaching staff, students and janitorial staff pledg- ed $500 on the evening of the telethon with the school raising that amount plus another $600. Raymond presented a cheque to local chairman of the Canadian Cancer Society Norm Whiting, Friday. Granton community Bible church Pastor Glen Fretz began a series of messages on the family with "The Family Under Assault", based on portions of scriptures from 'Genesis chapters 2-4, An alarming statistic of today is that there is almost as many divorces as there are marriages. It would seem therefore that the greater pressures of today are the reason. The root cause however is explained in Genesis and is as true today as it was when it was written. Satan is as anxious today as he was at the time of Adam and Eve to cause family break-downs, as the family was designed by God as a picture of peace, serenity and unity. In order to keep our families together we must resist Satan's attacks and and nursery. Institute members then met in the lunch room with Mrs. Floyd Cooper conduc- ting the business. The roll call "Name your first school and teacher" was answered by all in attendance. The fall rally will be held in Gorrie October 6. Miss Ruth Skinner and another delegate, to be named later, will attend. The treasurers and public relations officers workshop is to be held October 9 in Clinton. Invitations were received for an October 15 Hensall desert euchre and Crediton meeting, The London Area Conven- tion is October 27:28 in the St, Marys arena. The Institute will cater to the Co-Op banquet on November 21. A crewel embroidery workshop will be held in Oc- tober. Anyone interested contact Shirley immediate- ly. SUMMERS GRANTON At the United ChUrch the 200th Anniversary of the Sunday School movement, founded by Robert. Raikes in 1760, was celebrated in a very meaningful service, with the Sunday School pupils in charge, Joanne Goos was worship leader. The Sunday Schoel pupils entered the sanctuary in procession with banner carriers Paul Brown, Julie McRobert, Paul Wright, Laura Scott leading the way to the front pews, The call to worship was taken by Carrie Wallis, and Jay Hayden. The scripture lesson took the form of two dramas, led by Christine Jones, Ted Mills, Blair Fraser and Amy Waugh, Heidi Hayden. Industries in days. Miss Dianne Cook gave highlights of the Sunday School in the present generation, Pamela Waters, Becky Bryan, Steven Nixon and Victor Kop received the offering. Special music was ten- dered by the sr. choir. Suzanne and Leanne Sleeper rendered a duet, A trio consisting of Steven Cook, Danny Scott and Ken McGuffin also sang. A dialogue on the history of the Sunday School movement was taken by Michele Malcolm and Valerie Squire. A birthday cake made by Mr. Win. Jonestandklecorated with candles and a miniature church was at the front of the church. Mrs. C. Gowan lit the candle for the past, Mrs. E. Chovancek for the present and Bill Fox for the future of the Sunday School. A period of rededication followed for the children, teachers, v Dashwood to 30 members of Elimville Institute for their September meeting. The,Crediton Social Club held their first dance last Saturday night, A large number of members and guests danced to the music of "Shades of Country". See you all at the Exeter Fair. Westman con- vened the program, giving the study paper on the Missions of Japan and a reading. Unit 3 met at the home of Mrs, Harold Mills ,on Wednesday evening when the guest speaker was Louis Vince of London, field representative for the Arthritic Society. Mr. Vince showed a film on different types of arthritis, more than one ever realizes, and passed out pamphlets illustrating the work being done. A question and answer period followed, Mrs. Eric Chevoncek presided during the business period when it was decided to adopt a foster child, Mrs. Jeffrey Bryan and Mrs. Chevoncek were in charge of program and led the worship service when the former gave a reading and both ladies took part in the dialogue "If God should speak". Unit 4 held their meeting at the United Church on Wesneday evening. Mrs. Cliff Hardie presided. The theme of the worship service was a bundle of sticks, with Mrs. Hardie giv- ing the scripture reading and lesson thoughts. 'Mrs. Rhea Hardie was in charge of the program and read a paper on the mission of Japan. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Earle Middleton have taken up residence at Kingsway Lodge, St. Marys. Mr. and Mrs. Danny Isaac and Tony visited on Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Harry'Isaac. Mr. John Smithers spent a week in Pittsburgh recently. On Sunday, a family gathering was held at the home of ,Mr. and Mrs. Murray Hamilton, Thedford. A social hour followed in the church hall. Grateful thanks go to Mr. Leroy Bryan and the Sunday School staff and pupils for carrying out the service in such an efficient manner. Personals Mr, & Mrs, James Kerr and Mrs, Doug Brown motored to Mississauga on Wednesday to visit their son and brother, Jim Kerr, who is a patient in the hospital there. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. & Mrs. Don Robson in the passing of the former's father, Arthur Robson, at Westminster Hospital in London.
