Reeve Allan Campbell of
McKilloP ToWnship
questioned the county's
procedure of informing
township councils when
applications to clear land
have been received when
Huron County council met
September 4,
Campbell said he was
travelling along the north
boundary of McKillep
Township last weekend and
noticed more than 25 acres of
bush on a McK,illop farm had
been cleared and he knew
nothing about it,
Clerk-treasurer Bill Hanly
informed Campbell that
McKillop Township Council
had not been told the land
was being cleared because
the Minty knew nothing
about it either,
He said the owner had not
applied to the county to have
the land cleared and the
county would be laying a
charge.
The county's tree by-law
stipulates that no living tree
under the size designated in
the by-law shall be cut down
unless approved by a county

But can't

Tuckersmith township
council held a two hour
meeting Tuesday night so
that representatives of
council could attend a
Stanley township council
meeting at Varna to appeal
the Vanastra drain report
which was to be discussed. It
is a Stanley drain affecting
several landowners in
Tuckersmith.
Because the number of
deer car collisions in 1980 has
reached record numbers in
Huron County a controlled
deer hunt will be held
November 3, 4, and 5 in
three management zones 89,
90, 91, managed by the
Ministry of natural
resources.
Other reasons given for the
hunt is because poachers are
taking deer while legitimate
hunters are denied that
opportunity; archers are
taking few deer; deer
hunters can provide
biologists with valuable
information which is
otherwise impossible to
collect (all dead deer are to
be taken to any one of four
check stations in Huron for
collection of information);
deer appear to be in-
creasing in Huron; and the
controlled hunter numbers
system including land
owner preference, is
compatible with agricultural
practices and rural
development,
Licences will be restricted
to 625, information available
from the ministry of natural
resources at Wingham.
Council passed again a
motion supporting the
establishment of a day care
centre for handicapped
children, such as the men-
tally retarded, at the
Vanastra day care centre.
the repeat of the motion was
necessary because of the
resignation of a former of-
ficial who was handling the
application.
Sam Russo, Jr., who was
given permission at the last
meeting to erect a horse stall
at his place of business at
Vanastra for the con-
venience of his customers,
was refused permission to
stable a horse there.
Road superintendent Allan
Nicholson reported work has
begun on the new bridge
(called Bell's Bridge) on
Concession 12-13 at Lot 6. He
said Union Gas has started
the new gas line from
Seaforth to Hensall along
township road 5 and 6, Huron
Road Survey. The line which
will stretch along a 10-miles
route will be bored under
crossroads and trees, when
encountered.
Applications for three tile
drain loans were approved
for a total of $16,400.
Accounts totalling
$82,878.87 were passed for
payment, including
Vanastra day car, $5,017.38;
Vanastra recreation centre,
$8,566.42; roads, $45,155.31
and administration,
$24,139.76.
Mrs. Linda Dillon, It .R. 1,
Clinton, was hired for the
position of part-time
secretary for the township
office at a special meeting of
council on August 21. She
was one of four applicants for
the position.
