Utilities manager Hugh Davis told the PUC Thur- sday that it would, be inap- propriate to begin soliciting invitations on the debenture issue when the actual amount needed was not known. The PUC was granted approval from Ontario Hydro to issue debentures totalling $161,000 but the actual amount required could be less than $150,000. While Davis said he did not want to see the PUC caught short of funds, he said it would be very costly to issue an unnecessarily large debenture, In a month's time he would have a much better idea of the project's final cost. On Tuesday town council met with two brokerage firms to discuss the debenture issue which could include the sub-station, the police station and the RUC delays decision regarding debentures Water eonsumption, In another water move, the commission approved the lifting of lawn watering restrictions, effectiVe September 15. There's little problem of power theft in Exeter but according to PUC chairman Chan Livingstone the stealing of power is a problem in the United States and Canada's urban areas, The Ontario Municipal Electrical Association has requested that its members report any incidents of power thefts to the Association. Davis reported that in Exeter there's only about a four percent difference in the power which it is budgetted to receive and the amount which is actually received by the community,Much of this difference • could be at- tributed to transmission losses, he said. This does not mean that the problem is not present in rural areasas Ontario Hydro has laid charges for power theft in Huron County, Davis stated. bance et the Club Albatross. In Huron Park on July 19. Timothy Allan Wood, Huron Park, was assessed a problem in attracting buyers for the Saturday afternoon auction. This year 13 calves will be shown at the fair at about 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, September 20 and will come before auctioneer Larry Gardner's hammer about one hour later. Shapton said there would be no added problems for anyone wishing to purchase a calf on a shared basis. He added, "We *ill arrange the trucking and local abbatoirs will take care of the but- chering," Want more 'buyers. for feeder calves sanitary sewer work per- formed on Thames Road, These last two projects were budgeted at $70,000, respectively. Davis reported that work On the substation was prOceeding on schedule and that it should be operational by September 15, Both the hydro and water syStem appear to be in good financial shape in 1980 with the PUC manager reporting hydro profits are down slightly compared to a year ago while profits in the water system, -have shown a dramatic increase. As of June 30 hydro's profit was $32,000 compared to $36,000 a year ago, The water system's profit has jumped from $11,000 in 1979 to $26,000 for the same period this year. The big reason for the water profit increase is the heavy use of water by Canadian Canners. In reaction to a comment from a PUC commissioner Davis said he didn't think it would be necessary to raise the water rates next year as a result of this year's heavy One Man was fined $300 and a woman $100 after they pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a distur- "One animal makes a lot of beef." That was the comment made this week by Bruce Shapton, Exeter Fall Fair director in charge of this year's feeder calf club at the fair,. Shapton told the T-A "We are trying to induce more buyers for our calves. If two or three people would go together and buy a calf we would probably get more buyers and more action at the sales."
