defeated West Corners 9-1
and" Tuesday they edged
Nairn 4-3 in eight innings,

homer in the top of the eighth
inning was the difference as
Saveway edged Nairn 4-3.
Nairn took a 1-0 lead in the
third inning as Rob Bender
reached on a walk and
scored on a passed base.
Saveway knotted the count
at one each in the fourth as
Paul McKnight singled and
scored on a grounder.
Nairn went ahead 2-1 in the
bottom of the fourth as Rick
Higgs singled and scored on
a passed ball.
Saveway tied the score in
the sixth as Brian Hodgins
reached first on an error,
Dennis Bierling singled and
he scored on a grounder.
That set the stage for
Pearson's home run, John
Gilespie had singled to lead
off the inning before Pear-
son's blast.
Mike Steeper hit a sole
home run for Nairn in the
bottom. of the eighth,
Mike Steeper started for
Nairn and gave way to
Randy Malcolm who took the
loss. They gave up eight hits
while striking out three,
Brian Hudgins tossed a two
hitter while striking out eight
batters,
Saveway 9 West Corners 1
Again Saveway needed a
win to clinch a spot in the top
4 and they responded with a
convincing 9-1 win,
They opened the scoring in
the first inning as Dan
Heywood singled and scored
on Paul Mc1Cnightt single.
They went ahead 2-0 in the
second as Jamie Eveleigh
' blasted a long home run.
They added five more runs in
the third inning as Dennis
Bierling singled, Gary
Skinner walked, Paul
McKnight; Dave Watson and
Jamie Eveleigh singled.
They added their final two
runs in the fourth as Gary
Skinner singled and Paul
McKnight, hit a long home
run.
West Corners got their
only run in the seventh as
Ron Lee scored.
Rob Thoman started for
West Corners and Bill
Hodgins came on in relief.
They allowed 10 hits while
striking out two batters.
Jamie Eveleigh pitched an
excellent game for Saveway
allowing five hits while
striking out 11 batters.

match.
Centre-forward Paul Van
Esbroeck put the Cen-
tennials into the lead at six
minutes by heading in a high
ball passed in from play on
the right wing by John
Mickle and Mike Janyu.
Again, at 60 minutes, mid-
fielder Alfons Weersink got
an Exeter lead by driving
home an uncleared ball in
the West Williams' 18-yard
box.
Weersink's goal scratched
Scott Griffith's first-half
reply goal at 15 minutes,
which had earlier drawn and
held West Williams level at
1-1. At 65 minutes, however,
United again drew level at 2-
2, when Howard Bright
tipped a loose ball into the
Exeter net to end the

ladies golf
Janet Graham and Mabel
Robbins with a combined
score of 56 were winners in
the recent two ball ladies
foursome at the Ironwood
Golf course.
Marlene Parsons and
Audrey Fairbairn required
the least number of putts, 16,
to take that, honour and the
most honest golfers were
Grace Farquhar and

The local youngsters beat
Harriston 18-13 Tuesday
night to advance to the next
round.
Thursday night they edged
Wingham 7-6 in two extra
innings and Saturday af-
ternoon, they lost 6-2 to
Wingham,.

A good crowd were treated
to an exciting game at .the
local diamond Thursday
night as Exeter and
Wingham pee wees battled to
a 6-6 tie at the end of the
regulation seven innings,
The Exeter boys came out
on top in the bottom of the
ninth in the first of a best of
three series.
Exeter took a 3-0 lead in
the bottom of the first when
Jeff Pfaff doubled, Marty
Taylor walked and George
Pratt blasted a triple to
score •both runs. Scott
Lovie's single brought Pratt
across the plate.
Wingham scored three in
the third and two in the
fourth to take a 5-3 lead
holding Exeter to one hit, a
single ay Dave Russell in
three innings.
Jeff Pfaff walked lat, the
fifth and scored on Taylor's
Single in the fifth. to come,
Within one run.
Wingham pulled in one run
i1/411 the sixth then the Exeter
lads evened the count 6-6 in
the bottom of the sixth.
Marty -Taylor had the only
hit as the Wingham pitcher
gave up three walks.
Both teams were held
scoreless in the seventh and
eighth innings 'as the teams
retired in order.
Wingham's first batter in
the ninth' got on base but the
next three batters retired
without getting him across
the plate.
With one out Marty Taylor
singled stole second and
scored the winning run on Al
Pym's. single. Scott Lovie
was the winning pitcher,
Marty Taylor led with three
r.b.i.'s.
Exeter 2- Wingham 6
Wingham took a 1-0 lead in
the bottom of the first,
Saturday then added one run
in the third and one in the
fourth to take a 3-0 lead.
With two out in the fifth
Scott Bogart scored after
getting on base on an error.
Rick Gilfillan, had Exeter's
only hit .of the ,game in the
tap of the sixth to make it a 3-
2 game„
Wingham Scored three in
the bottom .of the sixth. then
retired the Exeter lads, in.
order to gain the win, .
Jeff Pfaff started on the
mound for Exeter recording
two strikeouts and giving up
one hit and seven walks,
Scott Lovie came in at the.
end of the fifth and recorded
one strikeout allowing one
hit and giving up four walks.
Pfaff gets tagged with the
less.

Exeter crossed the plate
for six runs on five walks and
singles by Rick Gilfillan, and
Marty Taylor in the first
inning. Harriston picked up
two runs.
Pym scored the only run of
the second when he singled
and came home on Dave
Russell's sacrifice.
Exeter pulled in three runs
in the third on singles by
Taylor, Scott Lovie, Sean
Whiteford and Allan Pym's
double.
Harriston scored one in the
third to make it 10-3.
Taylor's triple, doubles
from Gilfillan and Lovie and
singles by Pfaff and Pratt,
scored four runs.
Harriston came back with
three runs,
DOUbles by Pratt and Pyrn
combined with singles tram.
Pfaff, Taylor, and. Lovie
produced three runs. in. the
sixth. .
Harriston came up big in
the sixth scoring five runs to
make it 17-12, Gilfillan
singled and scored Exeter's
lone run in the seventh.
Harriston picked up one in
their last at bat,
Scott Lovie records the win
and Jeff Pfaff the save. Allan
