Under the new 'management program several laws have been changed, The most important is that a deer licence is now valid only for taking antlered deer with at least one antler 3" or Resources! They have finally begun big game management Programs, moose and deer anyway.- Work is also being done with bear and even elk but the caribou is still being left to survive on its own. The deer management , longer. Antlerless tags are available to residents only and are limited. They must be applied for by August 20. (extended from August 10) and will be handed out by computerized draw. Your antlerless tag will be good for one zone only, and only the holder of the tag may shoot the deer. No other hunter in the party may do so, Bow hunters need not enter the draw to have their 'licence valadated for an- tlerless 'leer and they now require a special \licence to use archery equipment. A deer licence no longer- allows a hunter to take black bear. A separate licence is required for hunting these animals, Standards for upgrading archery equipment have By III W., M'041,1TT Congratulations to the Ministry of Natural Exeter Ladies Bowling League Open Meeting' Wed., Aug.20 8 p.m. • EXETER BOWLING LANES All new bowlers welcome Would appreciate team captain or a team representative present. Bully 111111111111111111111111111111111I11111111111r; program is probably the one of most interest in our area, This week after receiving an information package in the mail, I talked with Mike Mallihot from our district office in Wingham, Mr, Mallihot answered several questions which came up after reading the in- formation package. When going through the seasons for this year it shows that there will be a deer season in Huron county for hunters using shotguns and muzzleloaders. This season will run from November 3 to 5: Hunters will not be allowed to use diSgs, but as always they can drive deer. Non-residents will not be allowed to hunt and the number of residents will be limited to 250 hunters in area' 91. This area is Huron county south of. Highway 8. If more than 250 hunters apply there will be a com- puterized draw. Application forms will be available at licence issuers in early September and must be submitted by September 30. Although landowner permissiOn should• be ob- tained, written slips are not required in Huron county. Deer hunting with archery equipment will be allowed here between October 20 and November 2'and November 6 to December 13. Manitoulin Island's gun season runs November 17 to November 20. krten imposed. It is now illegal to possess, while hunting deer, a crossbow with less than a 45 kg pull at draw length or a bolt less than 300 mm in length; a long bow with draw weight of less than 18 kg. at 700 mm or an arrow less than 600 nun in length. Arrow heads must measure 22mm in width and have 2 or more cutting edges. Getting back to our own area, I was very surprised to find out how little our ministry office knows about big game in our area. They do not know how many deer are in our area, they don't even know if we are anywhere near the carrying capacity of- the land. • Because of the high number of road kills (45) this year in our area they believe the population is on the in- crease and these two facts were influential in organizing the controlled hunt. Most disappointing to me was the fact that nothing is planned to help increase the deer herd in our area, When I asked why, I was told lack of public support, interest and funds. You would almost think these were only the sports- men in the area to blame. If the interest was here the ministry would do something. It wouldn't even hurt one of our local clubs to get up a petition to support a habitat improvement programme. You'd think they could handle that job, It would at least be a start, Gables Tavern POWELL 4,SITEK Tues., Aug. 12 Sat, Aug. 16 * * * • is The TOM DESTRY BAND back by popular demand Thurs., Aug. 21 - Sat., Aug. 23 .
