Midgets get
upset win
Sunday afternoon the Ex-.
eter midgets upset the first
place Listowel team. The
midgets captured a decisive
17-5 victory over the former-
ly undefeated team. This
was the first time that Ex-
eter has defeated Listowel in
four years of league play.
• The victory featured 18
Exeter hits including six ex-
tra back hits. Rich Fletcher
led the Exeter attack with
four hits; Kevin Easter-
brook, Dave Shaw and Jamie
Chaffe had three hits each,
while Bruce Shaw had two,
and Steve Propt, Brian
Horner and Pete Tuckey
picked up one a piece.
Dave Shaw captured the
pitching victory. throwing
well against the hard hitting
Listowel squad. Shaw allow-
ed only three hits and two
runs, while striking out nine
and giving up only two
walks.
The Exeter team has now
extended their winning
streak to seven games.

Grand Bend's ' B team
defeated Exeter Centennials
1-0 in a B division cham-
pionship game of the Ausable
district mid-season soccer
tournament at Huron Park,
Sunday.
West Williams United
became A division tour-
nament champions by
downing Grand Bend
Colonials, current league
leaders, in a matching 1-0
score.
The tournament consisted
of seven games.
In the opener, Huron Park
were 3-1 winners over Lucan,
to eliminate the latter from
further play. Grand Bend B.
then sent Forest away 2-1 in
the first of the final B-
division matches,
West Williams began their
championship climb by
banishing Nairn 1-0 in A
• division competition. Exeter
got a B finalist entry with a 1-
0 win over Huron Park.
Grand Bend Colonials, in a
strong display, swept
Taxandria Falcons aside 6-1,
and seemed assured winners
on the day. '
Both final matches were
features of excellent soccer.
Grand Bend B, in their 1-0
tilt with Exeter, captalized
on a first-half attack that
spread the Centennials for a
goal by Steve Donaldson.
Thereafter, the Bend
youngsters shut down
every Exeter move.
West Williams put and
kept the IGrand`Bend
Colonials off balance
throughout the A final with
clever midfield play and
quick supporting work in
defence to maintain their 1-0
lead.
