small 'group of children

part in the Mother Goose
performance.
Ms. 'Joyce has a broad
background in co-ordinating
workshops such as this one.
She is a professional actress,
but haS kept busy' in recent
years setting up' schools for
young actors and children.
She has organized successful
childrens workshops at
Bramalea and Brampton.
Now she finds herself
travelling to various
theatres where she is asked
to help with children.
She stresses that it is' not
going to turn out little ac-
tresses and actors. The main
point of the children's
workshop is help children
overcomeshyness in front.of
others, and to lose
inhibitions.
The children are becoming
well aquainted with the barn •
theatre at Huron Country
Playhouse. Last Wednesday,
when a matinee per-
formance prevented them
from working in the theatre
the instructors let the
program vary.
The children were told to
bring an old sock from home.

The
If you're old enough to
remember • Vaudeville and
enjoy a laugh, then you
should see The Sunshine
Boys at Huron Country
Playhouse. 'If you're too
young to remember
Vaudeville, then you should
see the The Sunshine Boys to
get an idea of what it was all
about.
The play is about two
aging comediens of the
- Vaudeville era, who were a
great team, but never got
along well together. Willie
Clark resents Al Lewis who
walked out on him after an
appearance on the Ed
Sullivan show. Clark also
remembers how much he
hated Lewis who had a bad
habit of spraying him with
spit when they were on stage
together, and poking him
with a sharp finger to make a
point.
So when Clark's nephew
asks them to get together for'
a television special on the
history of comedy, they do it
very reluctantly.- Naturally
all the old bad habits are
revived.
Those who enjoy the old
one-liner comedy of the
Vaudeville years will like the
second act of The Sunshine
Boys. Much of the humour is
based on "groaners" and the
action is fairly fast.
Unfortunately, the
silliness of Vaudeville creeps
into other parts of the play,
and instead of the problems
of growing old, we see only
bickering. It's still good
comedy, but '1 think
Stephen Litchen missed a
chance to put some pathos
into the play, and send
people home thinking about
it.
Having read the Neil
Simon play, ' I think the
element of sadness and
seriousness is present.
Litchen, it appears, just
wanted comedy.
Cec Linder as Willie Clark
handles the role well, and
shines in the Vaudeville
sketch. David Holmes does
superb job of playing Al
Lewis. Holmes and Linder
complement each other very
well in the finger poking and
spitting scenes.
Stanley Coles as nephew
With Mary Alderson
Ben does well as the
peacemaker between the two
old gentlenrxen;
our own recently
discovered local talent look
very good, Helen Brand, also
known in this area as Miss
Exeter Fall Fair, is excellent
as the sketch nurse. John R.
Bushel of Beach O'p'ines
makes a very good patient,
'and even Charlie, the South
Huron Hospital skeleton
gives a flaWless per-
formance. -
Playhouse technical
director Mark Cole has no
trouble, playing Eddie, the
stage hand, And CFPL radio
fans will enjoy hearing the
voice of their favourite an-
nouncer Bill Brady. Stage
. manager at the playhouse,
Graham Cook, does of fine
job with the voice of the
television director.
Sandi Ross plays the
registered nurse well,
evidence of the fact that she
has played the part. before,

has agreed to come back to

The St. Marys area native

Free At Last is a comedy by
Canadian Eric Nicol about a
man who has trouble coping
with members of the op-
posite sex - his ex-wife,
landlady, girl friend, and
nanny goat.
Ms. Radcliffe agreed to
return to Grand Bend
because she enjoyed her
short stay with Spring Thaw
on June 7 and 8.
She is well-known for her
part as Larry King's

re-writing the script all
