Jack Rosser, and his wife,' Gertrude, will have the honour this year of hosting the weekend festivities. 'Jack was born in Denfield of Welsh extraction and moved to Ailsa Craig in 1927. After attending school in Craig, 'he started farming with his father in 1937. Over the years the Rossers have specialized in dairy cattle, hogs and more recently, in poultry. In july 1950, Jack and 'Gertrude were married in the United Church at Brinsley. Gertrude is a ' native of Brinsley 'and at- tended the, SS no, 6 Public School in McGillivray. After completing high school in Lucan ' she attended Teachers College„ London, and taught public school in Crediton, Grand Bend, Parkhill and McGillivray. The. Rossers' only daughter; Barbara, was born in 1955, and received her MA in Urban and Regional Planning from Western University in 1979, and was recently married in Ailsa Craig. • . Select !tossers for parade titles Gala days scheduled By JOY SCHEIFELE Turtles beware! This weekend is Gala Days in Ailsa Craig! Little boys, big boys little girls and adults are all on the hunt gathering turtles for the annual turtle races featured at Ailsa Craig's annual Gala Days scheduled for this weekend! Saturday afternoon small turtles, big turtles and middle size\ turtles -are carefully placed in a circle and heats are run to determine the speediest of the lot. Lots of other fun and frolic is also being planned for the weekend gala events in- cluding the annual variety show Friday,- evening, Saturday parade and the favourite Old Tyme Fiddler, and Step Dance Jamboree, and bed races. New this year is an ar- chery competition scheduled for Saturday afternoon, arm wrestling and a shuffleboard tournament. Also special this year is the Lyceum Theatre Production for children on Saturday evening. °. If Sunday proves hot, the Firemen's Tug of War and Water 'hockey competition should be great spot as the Ailsa Craig and Parkhill volunteer fireman fight it out with their fire hoses! . A gospel - sing and presentation of champions will bring the events to a countdown Sunday evening prior to the final closing ceremonies at the Ball Park. Thanks! The increase in, government grants, which have just been allocated, are below the inflation rate. That means there will be a difficulty in'serving the handicapped on our waiting list. Exeter Savewa, defeated Lucan 4-3. g t GRADUATES — Mar Margaret Johns, younges daughter of Howard and Marion Johns graduated from Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology as a Horticultural Technician. t HEART FUND DONATION — Residents of Craiqholme Nursing Home in Ailsa Craig recently raised kinds for the Ontario Heart Fund. The Resident's Council Executive Secretary, Mary Henry, presents a cheque to Campaign Chairman Reeve Jack Whitmore in the amount of $671.41 with President Scot Whalley. The auditorium was filled with friends and relatives of the 211 children enrolled. The children entered the auditorium in classes singing "I Will' Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving", the song which began each morning'S worship. Ruth Smith, worship leader, led the children's singing of songs related to the Ten Commandments between presentations by each of the classes from the Nursery class through to Grade 8. Director, Pastor David Brunner of the Nairn Mennonite Church, reported that this year's school had an' average attendance of 163, The children's offerings this year totalled $315.00 which will be divided equally among the Canadian Bible Society, assisting the boat people who have settled in the Strathroy area, and a Mennonite Central Com- mittee project to aid those in Whiesburg and Harian, Kentucky, who have need of basic shelter, food, heat and medical needs at critical times df the year. Special thanks was given •to the children for their help in these proje&s. • Around the room was a display of workbooks and crafts which the children had achieved throughout the two weeks. Teachers and assistants in this year's school included Barbara Hauman, Carol Skinner, Wendy Brunner, *Wendy Currie, Elizabeth Ingham, Beatrice Bender, Ruth McCallum, Andre Killby, Thelma Robinson, Becky Bender, Lori Schlegel, Susan Gingerich, Dawn. Schlegel, Theresa Marshall, Shirley Hodgson, Phyllis Nicholls, Joanne Nicholls, Wilma Smith, Dorothy Nordemann, Sue Heidebrecht, la ran Andrienne Tews, Jane Ingham, Dave Brunner, Pat Bender, Margaret Wiley, Ronna Hughes,Trudi Thompson an Adele Stewart. The bus drivers, Ernie Schlegel, Ruth Smith, Ruth Tweddle, Phyllis Nichols and Edith Clark also donated their time driving the children to and from 8ible school, By MRS HARDID DAVIS KIRKTON The June Meeting of the Kirkton Women's. Institute was held at the Kirkton Woodham Community Centre, The presidefit Mrs, Ron Denham opened the meeting with all repeating the Ode and Mary Stewart ' Collect. The roll call was answered by a gardening hint. Mrs, R, Denham presented five 4-H girls with a gift for completing 12 clubs, Ellen Copleand, Jane Simp-son, Cathy Lemmon, Karen Hensal and Lynn Robinson, The branch directors were in charge of the program. This took the form of a panel. Those taking part were Mrs. Clarence Switzer, Mrs. Jack Wiles, Mrs. E, Shute, Mrs. G. Stephens, Mrs. Stuart Shier and Mrs, R. Denham. It was the hiStory of the Women's Institute from its beginning February 19, 1898 at Stoneybrook ...by Mrs. Hoodless and how it' has grown through the years. Mrs. Robt Ratcliffe gave current events. Mrs. R. benham closed the meeting with a reading "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow." Lunch was served by the committee and a social hour was spent.
