Three public speaking competitions were held for grades 4-8 during the spring body and was led by Mr. John Ziler's grade 8 students. Grade 8 students' fathers received a special invitation to attend. Seventy-two students from St. Patrick's took part in the annual 'London and Middlesex Roman Catholic Separate Schools' Track and Field meet in the stadium at the U.W.O. on June 4. Several classes ended their study units, a section of program, etc., with class trips. Grade 7 to the Free Press and Komoka Trout Farm, grades 5 and 6 to London Art Gallery, grades 3 and 4 to the Zoo in Toronto, Kindergarten and grade 2 to the Zoo at Grand Bend and the jr. kin- dergarten and grade 1 to Springbank Park. , Father Finn planned a special one full day retreat for the grade 8's on June 19 whereby the school, church and presbytery facilities were used. In addition the traditional graduation Mass was celebrated, in the church on June 25th at 9:15 a.m. for the graduates, parents and friends. The annual play day, planned and organized by Mr. Connelly was also a special June feature, as was the film "That darn cat" shown in the gym in two parts, primary students in the morning and junior and intermediate in the af- ternoon. Howard Currie, Animal "Control Officer for Luella, bas caught a wide variety of dog; and even two stray horses, but one of his unusual calls involved a large snapping turtle. A lady south Of Lucan called Mr. Currie in desperation asking him to help therfficatch and take out of their large swimming pool a very big snapping turtle which kept them from using the pool. Having the owner use a long pole to stir up the turtle, Mr. Currie watched until it came to the top of the water, when he scooped the turtle up and out of the pool with a dip net, Mr. Currie then tied the dip net securely so as to transport it to a steam where he released it. The turtle wasted notime hikingoff into the creek. Lucan Revival centre Sunday morning Rev. Ray Brewster conducted the service. Larry McGill ac- companied Jennifer Toews and Elizabeth Ingham as they sang "Come to the water" Judy Henry led the children's church singing "0 let us Worship". Using a red umbrella, Judy told about Jesus' blood protecting us. Rev. Brewster, speaking from Eph 2:10, and Isaiah 61:1-3 showed how we are God's workmanship. Each class performed a song or skit to explain what they had learned for the two weeks at V.B.S. Youth were led by Karen Mason. Craft leaders were Denis and Dorothy Dedels assisted by Dena Edwards, Heather Holland, Karen Kwasnicki, 'Jun McGill and Eleanor Kestle. June 3, Howard and Eileen Currie, of Brialin Kennels, Lucan, left for a month's holiday to the Maritimes and Newfoundland. As most of the Keeshonden. dogs in Nova Scotia are from Kooshonden they sold to the Maritimes, the Curries met with several of the owners at a dog show in Chesley, N.S. .where they saw many of the Keeshonden and the ones they shipped to N.S. While in N.S. they stayed with Rev. and Mrs. Evert Gagnon who were pastors in Lucan years ago. Their trip around the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton was very beautiful and interesting, especially to find patches of snow in woods on one of the hills. After a night long ferry ride, before docking in Nfld, again they saw snow in the hills. There was snow on many of the low mountains of west Nfld. There is quite a barren rocky rolling range in Attendance `and refresh- ments were taken by Helen and DerothyCunninghamand Bonnie. Recess helper and co-ordinator was David Reps, • An offering was taken t cover expenses. The children's daily offering of $128.30 all went to the Christian School for the Deaf in Haitai. Judi Henry had shown slides of the deaf school in Haiti taken while she was there, As the of- ferings were more than needed, the extra money was also sent to Haiti. Judi Henry wishes to especially thank the mothers who made cookies, The children appreciated the parents and community support. Planning for next year is already started by Judy Henry. Upcoming events - Thursday evening 7:30 p.m., the W.A. of Lucan Revival Centre will hold a fellowship meeting at the Henry farm, with husbands and young people invited. David Ross will be the speaker. Saturday ,July 26th, a conference youth picnic will be held at WildwOod Park. most of southern west Nfld. The interior and Avalon Peninsula is very wooded, numerous small lakes they call ponds, with large bogs. To get peat moss people simply •drive out to the country as peat is very easy to find. In St, John's the Currie's visited several Keeshonden owners, whose dogs originally came from Brialin Kennels. Now there are several kennels started from the Koeshonden shipped to Nfld some years ago. On trips to the wilderness areas over rocky often flooded, access trails Mr. Currie caught many fine speckled trout. A visit to a wilderness nature park showed native moose and caribou, along with many other wild animals of Nfld. The third annual Science Fair and Open House was held during Education Week for grades 5-8 . Class visitations in each room were welcome during the morning sessions, the following week. Senior' students participated in the Mass Liturgy, readings and intentions on Saturday evening May 3rd and Sunday at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Students from grade 3-8 took part in a gymnastics presentation in the gym on May 8th. A religious celebration of Mother's day was led by Mrs. Verla Kelly and her grade 2 students. First Communion was made by all students in the grade 2 class at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 18, with a small reception being held in the school following the service, for those students and their parents. The Mission Hope Project (Missionary Worrk for children) raised $654.38 this year, of which $357.48 was from the Cross Country Run- a-thon.
