T-A photo CLANDEBOYE Mrs. Art Hodgins ac- companied by her sister-in- law, Mrs. Bill Morley of Zion returned Saturday from a two week holiday to the Canadian West, They travelled by air to Edmonton, then by special tour bus through to Victoria, returning by air, They found their tour group especially interesting, all 80 in number being from Great Britain, who seemed to enjoy having a couple of Canadians along to answer their many questions about Canada. The Canadians also enjoyed the many English expressions. Mary and Wilmer Scott were in Smith Falls on the weekend attend the funeral of Mary's sister, Mrs, Barbara Faulkner. Mrs. Faulkner was the for- mer Barbara Harrison who was born and raised in this community. Five hundred and three Students from ten Huron County Schools have read 5,371 books and raised $6,111,02 in the recent Multiple Sclerosis Society's. READ-a-thon program. The three participating schools were visited by a Society representative in April who presented a film explaining the READ-a-thon program, Those students interested in participating were given official kits which contained pledge sheets and identification cards, The children grades 2- 8 then read as many books as they wished obtaining pledges from family, friends, and neighbours. Sponsors pledged a nickle, dime, or more for each book read during the reading. period. 411 the money raised by the students will be used to fund MS research projects, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a. mysterious crippler of young adults ages 18-40, which affects the nervous system. There are an estimated 35,000 MS. patients in Canada, As in the past, the MS. READ-a-thou is aimed .at stimulating reading among elementary and junior high students across Canada. "People talk about having an open mind," says Dr. William Ayer. "I believe in having an open window too, but I want a screen on it to keep the bugs out."
