On June 18.47 UCW ladies
and guests set out on a
Charterways bus from Ex-
eter United Church, for a
tour to Elmira and stirroun-
ding Mennonite country.
With the weather co-
operating the bus passed
through some lovely
codtryside on our way to our
first stop. Elmira.
Arriving at the Elmira
Mennonite Church members
were welcomed by,Rev. Ver-
non Leis. This lovely more
modern church stands next
,door to an Old Order Men-
nonite Church where the
Mennonite people come to
worship in their horse and
buggies alternating each
Sunday with ones in their
black cars.
Thee ladies of Exeter along
with another group of senior
citizens from Collingwood
were shoWn two' films, Men-
nonite Commercial's .and
Mennonites of Ontario: ,
Both films informed that"'
the Mennonites are a very
passive group;' very loving
understanding and forgiving.
The Mennonite family is a
strong social unit, where
children are wanted, Home
is where the teaching is done
and hard work and co-
operation is learned early in
life.
The Mennonites believe
that they have been called to
take the Jesus way in all of
life. They have no belief in
insurance of any kind, which
includes family allowances
and old • age pension. They
believe that God's people
will provide.
The World Wide Relief
Sale and Fund ,groups work
together, also. The World
Wide Disaster Service are ,
ready to lend a helping hand
when needed.
A delicious roast beef
dinner was served by the
ladies or the Mennonite
church. After the meal
hbmemade bread was sold
also many crafts from the
Self-Help programme were
on display to be sold.
Mr. Ivan Schantz, the
Mennonite tour guide show-
ed the Mennonite c ountry
pointing out the old and new
customs that form a part of
this community.
The group visited a
number of interesting places
