A woman who makes her
living trying to solve other
peoples' problems, told the
Exeter • Public School
graduation class this week
that many problems would
resolve themselves if people
could communicate better.
Susan Greer, a former T-A
reporter now in charge of the
London Free Press "Sound
Off" column, said many of
the problems passed on to
her by consumers are , the
result of a break-down in
communication,
She said at the graduation
exercises, Tuesday, that her
main purpose is to break the
rift in the communication,
which, she explained was at
times the consumer's own
fault and at times the fault of
the company with whom
he she is dealing. The big job
was to get the two sides back
' together to work out their
problems.
"Regardless of what you
do, you always have to be
able to communicate," she
said, adding that a good
grasp of the English
language was essential for
the graduates so they could
understand what people are I
saying to them and so they
can make themselves un-
derstood,
Miss Greer said she was
surprised at how many
callers who present a
problem to her are unable to
"spit it out."
She also urged the grads to
Jogger- to
`hit' Lucan.
Terry Fox, after nearly
three months jogging on the
lonely roads and highways of
Eastern Canada, is now in
Ontario and will be in this
area later this • month. He
crossed the Quebec-Ontario
border at Hawkesbury at
noon on June 28 to be met by
members of the Canadian
Cancer Society, local
dignitaries and a rousing
band.
The 21-year-old amputee
from Port Coquitlam, B.C.,
who lost his right leg to
cancer three years ago, is
running a 5,000 mile cross-
country marathon. He will
be in the province until the
earl of August when he will
"fox trot" through the
prairies and mountains to
return home to British
Columbia in early
November.
Ottawa planned great
things for the three young
men from British Columbia -
Terry, brother Darrell and
friend Doug Alward - a
reception given by the
Governor General, a jog to
the Sparks Street Mall, the
Canada Day celebrations on
the Hill. Terry Fox and his
companions will be met by
large crowds in Toronto,
where many pledges are
being received by radio
stations, 'and in Perth,
Peterborough, Bowmariville,
Newcastle, Oshawa, the,
Niagara Peninsula, Oak-
ville, Hamilton and Brant-
ford.
The trio will move on to
Woodstock on July 16;
London, July 17; Liman, July
18; St. Marys-Stratford, July
19; Kitchener-Waterloo, July
20.
