government on what role
government could play in
such a corporation, how the
corporation should be
financed, and how it should
be structured and managed.
The committee is em-
powered to travel throughout
Canada and elsewhere to
collect information and
gather the views of parties
who would be affected by the
creation of the projected
corporation.
Creation of this special
committee has been
rumoured since the opening
of Parliament, but its for-
mation was held up by
disputes about whom it
should report to. The
decision to go ahead with the
committee represents a
victory for the Opposition,
who have argued that such a
committee should report to
Parliament and not to a
Minister of the government.
