The adjudicator, Dr. G.R.

ears of iron - he listened to 33
versions of "Away in a
Manger" in the Girls'Duel
section.
Some 250 boys and girls,
the highest enrolment ever,
were members of the
S.H.D.H.S cadet corps.
In 1955-56, Messrs. Joseph
Wooden and Kenneth
Ottewell came to South
Huron.
1956
Enrollment in 1956 was 525
students.
You have to wonder about
the Special Commercial
class of 1956 They went by
nicknames such as Lamp-
post, Rat, Herne, Magoo,
Dot, Mouse, Kitten, Blondie,
Squirt and Chicken. Mrs.
Burton, their teacher, was
called Mrs. Burton.
The 1956 openhouse and
barbeque was attended by
600 people. Awards were
presented to 30 students.
Tenders for a five room
addition and cafeteria were
issued. Bids ranged from
$164,000 to $183,000. None
was accepted because all
exceeded the Board's
guideline of $137,000.
Bob Galloway was the 1956
Corn King at the Royal
Winter Fair.
Mr. Bruce Perry came to
the school in 1956-57.
1957
On February 22, 1957, a
tender was accepted for the
proposed five classroom and
cafeteria expansion. The
cost was to be $150,000.
Robin Smith became South
Huron's first posture queen
in 1957. The tall, pretty 15-
year-old was chosen queen
over 16 other candidates.
The award was presented at
the annual graduation
dance. The contestants were
judged by a panel of three
judges on their standing,
sitting, and walking
postures.
Each of the 17 classes in
the school selected a can-
didate to represent them in
the judging final. The proud
winner was presented with a
jewelled compact.
The Chicken Barbeque
was attended by over 500
people. H,L. Sturgis, prin-
cipal, said it was the "best
ever".
1958
• The 1958 Inkspot ran some
sample opinions on "Rock 'n
Roll, the new music fad
sweeping the country."
Eighty percent agreed with
Ruth Wiedo who said, "I
hope it's here to stay 'cause I
really like it. It's a lot better
than •old fashioned dancing
our parents brag about."
"Straw elections" held in
1958's history classes gave
"unbelievable" results,
according to the Inkspot. The
Progressive Conservatives
were victorious. in every
class. The Inkspot guessed it
was because students had
heard their parents praising
the party, and predicted a
bright future for the PC's.

South Huron students were
