Children's Day and Flower

school presented awards to
the students with perfect

Thursday when the ladies of
Carmel Presbyterian
Church gathered in honour of
Mrs. Malcolm Dougall who
has transferred to Caven

read a poem and Mrs. Perc

Discuss many items
The June meeting of Unit
two of Hensall United
Church was held in the
parlour on Monday evening,
June 9, at 8 p.m. Mrs. Jean
Hull conducted the meeting
and opened with a poem,
"Strange Things".
Mrs. Joyce Pepper con-
ducted the business con-
cerning the March of Dimes,
the Waterloo Conference,
and thebike-a-thon and bake
sale on Saturday for the
Heart Fund. Leaders for
Messengers and Explorers
in the fall are badly needed.
The September meeting will
be a supper meeting. The
business session was closed
with Mrs, Hull giving a
reading, "Take Time."
For the topic, Mrs. Hilda
Payne showed slides of
Scotland and Canada. All
seemed to enjoy the pic-
tures. The meeting closed
with the Mizpah Bendiction.
Guest at Hensa II
Ladies from the United
Churches of Chiselehurst,
Varna, Zurich, Goshen and
the Lutheran and E.U.B.
churches of Zurich, plus the
W.M.S. and the Arnold Circle
of Hensall Presbyterian
Church were guests of
Hensall United Church
Women on Monday, June 2
when Mrs. Jean Moffat of
Waterloo spoke on the Work
of Amnesty International, a
report of which appears in
the paper elsewhere.
At a special meeting on
May 28, Hensall council
unanimously agreed to give
Lucknow contractor Gerrie
Glen permission to build a
two bay carwash Hensall.
The carwash' will be
located directly south of the
post office on Wellington
Street, Council made the
decision on the condition that
the building be kept clean
and tidy at all times.
At the regular meeting,
Monday, Hensall council
agreed to endorse a
resolution made by the Town
of Exeter regarding the
deplorable actions of Soviet
troops killing 60 school
children in Kabul,
Afghanistan on April 26.
The resolution demands
that "the Federal Govern-
ment show courage and
determination in expressing
to the government of the
U.S.S.R. our disgust at these
atrocities."
In other business, coun-
cillor Harry Klungel said he
had encouraged the mer-
chants on main street to
draft a letter of urgency to
the ministry of tran-
sportation and com-
munications to, get the road
in better shape. He said that
the main street was in a
"deplorable state" and
needed attention.
He said that such a letter
would, have moreimpact on
the ministry than only a
letter from the council.

and Richard Packham
agreed..
At the meeting, councillors
were informed that Al
Sinclair, ministry of culture
and recreation consultant,
has invited tha heads of
council,, recreation directors
and municipal officials of
south Huron to attend
seminar on the Discussion
Paper for Allocation of
Funds for Cultural and
Recreation Facilities in
Ontario.
The meeting will be held
on June 19 at the Hensall
Arena,

Seniors elect officers, •
enjoy euchre contests
GRADUATES — Kevin
Wareing, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ronald Wareing of Hen-
sall, graduated recently from
the University of Western On-
tario with a Bachelor of
Sciences degree in Computer
Sciences. He has accepted a
position in Oshawa with
General Motors of Canada.
Dougall with a gift. Although
taken by surprise Mrs.
Dougall made a reply ex-
pressing sincere thanks. A
social hour was enjoyed by
all.
W. M. S. and
ladies aid meet
The W.M.S. of Carmel
Presbyterian Church held a
business meeting on Monday
evening with the president
Mrs. Hyde presiding and
opened with a poem "Rees"
Mrs. Hyde gave a report of
the Presbyterial held in may
in Goderich. The fall rally
will be held on October 8th at
1:30 p.m.
The treasurer gave a
report and also the card
convener. Mrs. Ruby Bell
reported for the kitchen
committee. It was decided to
hold the annual bake sale
and bazaar on November 1 at
3 p.m. with the Arnold Circle
to be in charge of the tea
tables. The next meeting will
be on September 8th
following the W.M.S.
meeting. Mrs. Hoggarth
closed the meeting with the
benediction.
Communion service in
Carmel Church
Rev Kenneth Knight
conducted the Sacrament of
the Lord's Supper on Sunday
in Carmel Presbyterian
Church, and his sermon was
"The Living Bread". Mrs.
Robert Taylor presided at
the organ for the service of
song. The Presbytery of
Stratford Huron meets on
Wednesday, June 18 at Knox
Church, Bayfield.
