The cake was decorated as a Canada emblem with dozens of flags from countries in the World association of Guides and Scouts. Youth group conducts service with variety of songs, stories written by Trudy Trivers of Blind River which, in part, likened the characters in "Snowwhite" and the Seven Dwarfs" to students and people in real life situations and how we can help and love them. By GORDON MORLEY The June meeting of the Brinsley United Church Women was held at the home of Mrs. Fred Lewis Wed- nesday evening. Viola Lewis opened the meeting followed by the singing of hymn and Mrs. Wilbert Lewis read the scripture reading. Viola Lewis gave a reading "A heart filled with gladness" and a poem "Little bits of gladness " and another story on "Struggling with Japan." Mrs. Jack Hodgson took over for the business and eight members answered the roll call. Tickets were given out to be sold for the annual ,chicken barbecue on July 9th.. Personals Mr. and Mrs. George Prest attended the Confirmation class for Linda Sadler held in Sylvan United Chrch Sun- day. Rae Lewis visited relatives over the week-end. Visitors through the week with Mrs. Violet Allison and Kathleen Morley were Mrs. Della Hamilton and Mrs. Haskett, and Elmer and Miss Verna Grenlee, Exeter.. A community shower was held in St. Mary's chur- ch basement Tuesday evening to honour Lynda Scott, bride-elect of this month, The bride was assisted in openeing her many gifts by Mrs. Merna Scott and Mrs. Bonnie Sadler. He warned his listeners against becoming robots to the point of view of the media, He sees the media as trying to make people want "Things", when we sheuld be giving rather than getting all the time, Father Denys brought this to the family level where children "want" so many things and this really hit home. Hwy 22 The community youth group conducted the service ▪ in Lucan United Church Sunday and did an excellent job, with their leaders Mrs. Barbara Bannerman and Bryan Smith and assistants Linda and Dale Froats. Young people taking part were Susan Hodgins giving the call to Worship, Carolyn Lankin, leading in a Responsive version of The Lord's Prayer, Sherry Froats in the Responsive Psalm, Kelly Ibbitson and Karen Radcliffe reading the Scriptures, Bryan Smith, the Pastoral Prayer, Laura McKenzie, a solo "The Lord's izrayer" the Michael Head arrangement. • The delightful children's story "Warm Fuzzies" (all the loving things we can do for one another) was given by Tami McRoberts and was most thought-provoking for adults as well as little people, The offering was received by Jamie Shipley, Ferlin Sovereign, Brian Foats and the President, Don Lily. Jamie also pronounced the Benidiction. The youth choir, with Ruth Hardy singing the solo parts,. sang "Father and Son" to guitar accompaniment by Rick Freeman, The Message on "Love" based on John 3:16 was given by Mrs. Bannerman who said "Today We think of the love we have for and from our earthly Father, because this is his day, but also of the greatlove of our Heavenly Father, as every day is His," "Love does not know in- flation, it is always the same and is unconditional" said Mrs. Bannerman. She advised her listeners to Give Love, Live Love, and Love Life and read the Canadian Mental Health Association winning essay Members of St. Patrick's Catholic Women's League entertained guests from other area churches to a "potluck" supper Thursday evening in the gym at the School. Representatives were present from the Lucan and Granton United and Angican Churches, the Lucan Revival Centre and the Meadowcrest Homes. Special invitations went to members who received their 25 year membership pins - Marion Benn, Joan Dietrich, Cos Loyesn, Margaret Ryan, Margaret Young, Cor. Vandeborne, Alice Dewan, Rose Heenan, Marie Ross and Catherine Crunican. The speaker was Father. It was a wonderful ex- perience to have the young people share the things that God has been teaching them individually and in their fellowship together. They and their leaders were thanked by Mrs. Brown on behalf of the congregation. Upcoming in the U.C. Next Sunday at 11:15 a.m. the Confirmation Class will be received, and Communion will be celebrated. At 1 p.m. thePotluckPicnic will be held in the Market Square Park. All membersandfriends are asked to bring along their picnic basket, to share, their cutlery and lawnchairs and we'll all have a good time Anglican The morning service at `Holy Trinity Anglican Church was a combination of Baptism and Holy Eucharist, administered by the Rector Rev. Bruce Pocock. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hodgins were at the door to welcome visitors, friends and members of the congregation Mr. Russell Radcliffe read the first lesson and the second read by Rev, Pocock Emily May Nicholson infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. Nicholson was baptized during the service. The theme of the sermon was a continuation of the word conversion, Open house at the Rectory Sunday was well attended by a large group of people from both parishes and community. Pocock, Mrs. Pocock and boys WEDDING The wedding of Gwen Marie, daughter of Don and Leila Pettigrew, formerly of Lucan, now of Forest, to Thomas Edward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Long, of Sarnia, took place at St. James Presbyterian Church, Forest, Saturday, June 14 Rev. Robert Bisset per- formed the ceremony which was followed by dinner and a reception in Kimball Hall at the Forest Arena. The annual church picnic provided a day of fun and games for the members and the Sunday School children of Lucan Revival Centre. The picnic, which was scheduled to be at K.O.A., Campground, Ailsa Craig, had to be held a Market Square Park, Lucan because of the rain. The adults enjoyed games of frisbies and baseball while the children competed in games. Everyone was served pot-luck supper at the church, The list of winners, are as follows: Running Race - Ben Patterson, Steven Brewster, Primary Ray Butler, Wendy Butler and Steven Plantinga. Potato Sack Race - Steven Brewster, Jane Grider, Melanie West Susan Ingham and Perry Cunningham. Running Broad Jump - Steven Brewster, Melanie West, Ray Butler, Wendy Butler, and Brian Halliday. Three Legged Race - Jane Grider, Paul Sloetjes, Melanie West, Carle Ann McKichan, Brenda Thomp- son, Donna Thompson, Ray Butler, Wendy Butler and Abner Butler, Jim Flet- cher. Balloon Throw - Steven Brewster, David Walkers, Brian Halliday, Steven Plantinga and Leonard Evans, Bill Cochrane. There were team races of relay, potato on the spoon and kangaroo race.. Sunday Morning Worship Rev. Ray Brewster led the service with choruses and hymns. Becky Brewster led the children in a song before taking them down to Junior Church. Speaking from Joshua 24, Mr. Brewster told his congregation the greatest power man has today is the power to choose. He can choose to be happy and joyous and no one or.. anything can make him choose otherwise. Fathers in the family should make the choice to show love to the family, to listen to his children, spend time with them. Fathers are to be the leaders to choose God and serve Him, and by his example his children will become what he is, A father's choice to serve Service was, led by Rev. Bill Cochrane and the ser- mon was presented by Rev. Roger Mason, on 1Cor. 15: 1- 4,and Matt, 28;18-20, Good week Lucan minor teams scored four victories and one tie in six games this week in area minor soccer action. Mike Annis and Jason McDonald each scored one goal to lead the Lucan atoms to a 2-0 victory over Exeter, Monday. Chris Dukeshire gained the shutout. Also, Monday, the Lucan pee wees blanked Ailsa Craig 3-0. Scoring in single fashion were Danny Mirza, Jerry Emery and Jesse Crawford while Lester Arts was in goal for the shutout. In a Tuesday game, the Lucan senior girls outscored Oakridge 4-1. Katherine Devlaeminck led the scoring -attack with a three goal effort. Debbie Manders was the other scorer. The squirt Blizzards downed Ailsa Craig, 4-1 Wednesday with Mike Damen booting two goals and single scores going to Chris McLennan and Eddie Verkkeole. In a squirt contest, Lucan Spurs were held to a 2-2 tie by Exeter. Stephen Snider and Derek Cockran were the Lucan marksmen. Wednesday, the Lucan junior girls dropped a 1-0 decision to the Byron Bob- cats. He said. to evangelise as God has commissioned us giving, verbal clarification of what God has done in our life, must be accompanied - by our Christian lifestyle. We should make ourselves available for whatever God may commission us, as He wants to work through all of us. By MRS.
