Competition Was keen in
Thursday's district
elementary school track and
field Meet with only one
point separating the first
three schools.
Usborne Central won the
overall team title with 53
points. Right behind in
second spot with 52 points
apiece were Exeter Public
School and J,A,D, McCurdy
at Huron Park. Hensall
Public School was next with
48 points, Stephen Central
amassed 24 points and
Zurich Public School scored
21 points,

in 'WOAA
Two runs in the bottom of
the seventh inning allowed
the Exeter juveniles to pull a
4-3 win over Walkerton in
WOAA baseball play in
Crediton this week.
In the Exeter seventh,
Brian Mercer opened with a
double, Joe Becker was safe
on an error and both crossed
the plate when Kevin Kern
cracked out a double.
Dan Heywood scored the
first Exeter run in the second
inning without the aid of a hit
and Don Beaver scored in
the fourth on a passed ball
after reaching first on an
error.
Jeff Fuller was the star-
ting pitcher for Exeter. He
allowed only two hits over
the first five innings and held
the visitors scoreless until
the sixth.
The first two Walkerton
batters came around to score
in the sixth. At this point
Kevin Easterbrook came on
in relief and although
allowing one run in the
seventh gained the victory.

The Exeter Legion Pee-
Wees came up with three
wins in Goderich on
Saturday to capture the
Regional title in the Legion
sponsored baseball tour-
nament.
Motocross at
Hully Gully
Motocross racing action
continued Sunday at Hully
Gully. The day started out
cold and damp, but after the
first few races the track was
in excellent condition, A
special intermission feature
then was a Gully Buggy
race.
Ross Poll of CKNX won the
Gully Buggy race between
CKNX and the staff of Hully
Gully, four laps on Honda
Odysseys and racing on the
Motocross track. Tim Baker
and Andy Beasley of
CKNX, also competed along
with Randy Collins and-
Wayne Dickins of Hully
Gully. Another intermission
feature was helicopter rides
which thrilled the young and
the old.

records 36
Dave Boltzmann fired a 36
to win the "A" flight low
gross honours in Tuesday's
regular men's league play at
the Ironwood golf course.
Bill Darling recorded the
best net score. In "B" flight
Don Cowan was low gross
with 41 and Lorne Klein-
stiver right behind with a 42.
Best in low net were J.
Harris and Ross Mathers.
In "C" flight Clarence
Ferguson and Walt
Tiedeman recorded the low
gross scores while Terry
MacLean and Hal Walsh
were low in net scores.
Larry Mason and John
Musser were the gross and
net winners, respectively in
the "D" flight.

This entitles them to ad-
vance to the District
championship to be held in
Listowel Saturday, In
winning, the title they
downed Goderich 19-10,
Seaforth 17-10 and Kin-
cardine 7-5,
After allowing Goderich
two runs in the first inning
the Exeter boys came up
with their best hitting of the
year. Jeff Pfaff started the
team off with a triple driving
home Rick Gilfillan and Sean
Whiteford who had received
free passes, George Pratt
had a walk and then Allan
Pym, Scott Lovie, Dave
Russell and Scott Bogart all
came up with singles to put
Exeter well out in front.
Almassi came in the
relieve Fitzpatrick on the
Goderich mound and walked
the first two batters.
Sean Whiteford then
clouted one into deep centre
field for the grand slam
home run. The next two
batters were retired then
Allan Pym hit a triple and
Scott Lovie got on base on an
error which brought Pym in
for the 12th run of the inning.
The next batter was retired,
Jeff Pfaff held Goderich
scoreless for the next three
innings while Exeter picked
up one run in each of the next
three innings on four hits.
Lovie and Whiteford each
had triples, diffilland and
Pratt came up with singles.
In the fifth inning Goderich
picked up 4 runs on one hit
and 4 walks given up by
Pfaff. Exeter came up with 4
more runs in the fifth and
sixth.
Pym had two more triples,
Lovie clouted a triple and
singles came off the bats of
Rupshell, Bogart and Pratt.
Goderich had one run in
the sixth and two in .the
seventh.
Jeff Pfaff went the
distance for Exeter allowing
only 6 hits. Exeter collected
a total of 18 hits. Pfaff had
four strikeouts.
Seaforth - Exeter
17-10
Exeter came from behind
a 10-6 score in the fifth to win
17-10 over Seaforth. Exeter
only managed two singles off
the bats of Scott Lovie and
Terry Zachar in the first
three innings, while Seaforth
picked up five hits.
In the top of the fourth
inning Exeter seemed to be
falling apart as Seaforth
went ahead 10-4 on two hits
and three errors. Exeter
pulled in two runs in the
bottom of the inning on
triples by Pym and Taylor,
Coach Jim Pfaff shifted
the boys positions and turned
the tables as Scott Lovie
retired three in a row in each
of the next three innings.
The shift brought the
morale of the team back and
they came up with 11 runs on
seven hits in thebottom of the
fifth.
Whiteford had a double
while singles came off the
bats of Gilfillan, Pfaff,
Giffin, and Bogart. Pratt
collected two singles in his
two trips to bat in one inning,
Lovie went the distance for
Exeter allowing six hits.
Exeter picked up a total of 11
hits off the two Seaforth
pitchers. Lovie struck out
seven batters.
Kincardine- EXeter
7 -5
Jeff Pfaff pitching his

allowed only two hits and
recorded 7 ' strikeouts in
downing Kincardine 7-5.
The Exeter boys picked up
12 hits in the closely fought
contest holding onto a one
run head throughout the
game.
Triples came from the bats
of Whiteford and Pym.
Gilfillan had a double and
singles were hit by
Gilfillan , Whiteford, Pratt
Russell, Lovie and Giffin.
Pfaff had three singles in
three trips to the plate.
Whiteford drove in nine runs
in the three games to lead
the team in R.B.T's.
In the opening game of the
regular season Exeter Pee
Wees came through in the
seventh inning to post a 3-2
win over Dashwood.
Both teams were held
scoreless until the top of the
seventh. Bedard opened the
scoring for Dashwood
driving in Richardson with a
double. Richardson had hit a
single then Johnston a single
to score Bedard.
Exeter scored three runs
in the bottom of the seventh
when Allen Pym came up
with a big triple. Singles in
the game came from the bats
of Rick Gilfillan, Jeff Pfaff,
Sean Whiteford, Allan Pym
and Dave Russell.
Schade was the losing
pitcher, He had eight
strikeouts and allowed six
hits. Pfaff went the distance
for Exeter giving up three
hits and striking out seven
batters.
In Goderich Wednesday
night Exeter lost their first
away game to Goderich 11-7,
Exeter collected Six hits, but
left seven men on base as
they went down to defeat.
The six hits were all
singles as no one could find
the power to hit for extra
bases. Pfaff recorded three
singles, Pratt picked up two
singles and Gilfillan had one.
Lovie started on the
mound for Exeter allowing
four hits and fanning four
batters. Pfaff came in to
relieve in the fourth and had
two strikeouts and allowed
two hits. Lovie was the losing
pitcher.
Thursday night at Exeter
Community Park the Pee
Wees recorded their second
win of the season downing
Seaforth 17-4.
Lovie recorded the win
giving up only four hits and
recording two strikeouts.
Exeter had eight hits
Gilfillan was tops with three
singles in five trips to the
plate. Whiteford had a triple
for the only extra base hit of
the game.
Singles were hit by Pfaff,
Pym, Lovie and Lerikos.
The Exeter pee-wees play
every Thursday night at 7:00
p.m. at the Exeter Com-
munity Park. Crediton pee-
wees provide the opposition
this week.
Cam Doig of Seaforth won
the "A" flight championship
at Saturday's invitational
golf tournament at the
Ironwood course.
Doig edged Wayne Forbes
on the second hole of a
playoff after both golfers had
recorded 71's in regular
play.
Steve Pearce of the host
club won the low net in the
top flight with a 64.
Next in low gross were Issi
Bedard with a 75 and. Dave
Boltzmann with a 79. Next to
Pearce in low net were
Wayne Parsons, Ron
Leewenberg and John
Sibbley.
Bob Daubs took low gross
honours in the "B" flight
with an 81 followed by Randy
Hugill 83, Jack Chipchase 84,
Don Gifford 85, Larry
McDougall 86 and Randy
Evans 87.
Ed Richardson took low
net with 68. Next came Steve
Pfaff 68, Terry Price 70,
Gabby Mol 70, Don Cowan 71,
Iver Small 71 and Dan
Heywood 71.
Bill Farquhar with an 86
won low gross honours in the
"B" flight. Next came Rene
Vandermeere, Wayne
Parkinson, Rod Van Dyke,
Bob Morton, Fred Wells and
John Leewenberg.
Best in low net were Bob
Forest, Bob Lawson, Larry
Mason, Wayne Edwards,
Clarence Ferguson, Brad
Murray and Jerry MacLean.
The most honest golfer
was Sid Bakker.

tomorrow night, Thursday at
9 p.m.
In Tuesday's game West
Corners opened the scoring
in the bottom of the second
as they notched three runs en
two hits and three Saveway
errors.
Saveway narrowed the
count to 3-2 in the fourth as
Doug Pearson singled and
Paul McKnight's triple
brought him in to score.
Brian Hodgins' grounder
scored McKnight,
West Corners notched two
more runs in the fifth on
three hits.
Saveway scored their final
run in the sixth as Doug
Pearson doubled and scored
on Dave Watson's grounder.
Rob Thoman toiled for
West Corners and picked up
the win allowing six hits
while striking out four
batters .
Brian Hodgins took the
loss allowing five hits while
striking out five batters.

Thursday night Saveway
edged Poplar Hill 7-6.
Saveway opened the scoring

Bob Ironside hit 50 straight
targets to lead the 20
competitors at Tuesday's
regular meet at the Kippen
gun club.
Next with 25 hits were Al
Kyle, George Hamm, Jim
Butcher and Jack Mills.
John Anderson and Dan

had 23 and Lloyd Venner,
Chris Middleton, Harrison

and came around to score.
Poplar Hill went ahead 5-2
in the fifth on two hits and
two errors.
Saveway then pushed
across 5 runs in the bottom of
the fifth. Jamie Eveleigh
and Noel Skinner singled,
Gary Skinner walked, Doug
Pearson reached on an
error, Save Watson was safe
on a fielders choice, Paul
McKnight was by on an error
and Doug Johnson doubled to
account for five runs.
Poplar Hill narrowed the
count to 7-6 in the sixth on a
home run,
Jim Daniel, toiled for
Poplar Hill allowing five hits
while striking out one batter.
Don Pedden finished up.
Jamie Eveleigh picked
up the win for Saveway going
five innings, allowing six hits
while striking out seven
batters. Brian Hodgins
