Ontario greenhouse
tomatoes can really perk up
a meal. Their superb flavor,
fine texture and bright color
make them perfect for
salads, appetizers or
vegetable dishes. Marketing
specialists at the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and
Food suggest these ways to
serve them this summer.
For a light, easy and cool
salad, combine greenhouse
tomatoes with long seedless
cucumbers and a few fresh
mushrooms, then toss with
some salad dressing or
mayonnaise. For a
marinated salad, toss
chunks or thick slices of
tomato with an oil and
vinegar-based dressing,
seasoned with herbs such as
basil or oregano. Marinate
for a couple of hours at room
temperature, then chill for a
half hour just before serving.

Unemployment Insurance.
Most people getting unem-

employers are being asked to send

the market and it makes a
great beginning to a fresh,
crispy salad.
Spinach is actually the
first leafy green to appear on
the market, since Ontario
iceberg and some other
greens, such as Rothaine,
don't arrive until July..
Marketing spcialists at the
Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food say
that spinach is at its peak
supply during June, Sep-
tember and October,
although it is available
through July and August too.
Most Ontario spinach is
sold in the 10-ounce cello-
pack bags. At harvesttime,
spinach is mechanically
harvested, washed, hand-
graded, then put into bushels
and shipped to the packers to
be bagged. A small amount
of spinach is sold in loose
bunches.
If you buy Ontario spinach
in the cello-pack, just store it
in the refrigerator as is. If
you're buying it loose, trim
off any roots or thick stems.
Then wash the spinach
thoroughly, a couple of
rinses are best, to remove
any dirt from the tightly
water. Sprinkle this solution
over the carpet with a
watering can. Use either a
scrubbing brush or an
electric rug shampooer to
rub the cleaner through the
pile. Rinse the detergent out
of the pile with a garden
hose. Allow the carpet to dry
thoroughly and then
vacuum.
Make sure you ground the
electric rug shampooer if
using it on outdoor car-
peting. A poorly grounded
connection can give a shock
when used on a wet carpet.
Outdoor carpeting is both
durable and attractive. Care
for it properly and it will
keep its good looks for many
years.

Care for
carpets
Outdoor carpets are made
from 100 percent synthetic
ingredients that will not
shrink or decay. These
qualities make outdoor
carpeting easy to care for,

Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food.
Outdoor carpets usually
require vacuuming twice a
week. Canister and upright
vacuum cleaners with carpet
pile adjustment work well.
Never vacuum outdoor
carpeting when its is wet or
damp. This could be a
potential shock hazard. Wait
until the carpet is dry, or
clean it with the spray from
a garden hose.
A great deal of outdoor
carpeting is located near
barbecues and picnic tables.
Even if the carpet is stain
resistant, treat food stains as
soon as possible. A detergent
and water solution will
remove most stains, and dry
cleaning fluid can be used for
greasy or oily stains.
Outdoor carpets should be
shampooed before they get
too soiled. Clean the carpets
with a good laundry
detergent, dissolved in
