He said the cost factor would be prohibitive for some extensions and this fact would keep any new development close to Exeter's boundaries. Will try again Exeter council will face another test of the policy of not contributing to charitable ventures at their next meeting. Councillor Al Epp at- tempted to get support for a resolution this week calling on council to pledge a five cent a mile donation to Terry Fox, the young one-legged B.C. man who is running from coast to coast to raise funds for cancer. Epp said the young man was showing the "utmost courage and determination" and said the pledge would serve as a challenge for local citizens and other • "It's important that the policy be changed, but definite boundaries have to be set," commented Councillor Lossy Fuller, adding that more time and thought had to be given to that aspect of the question. Mayor Derry Boyle said that as mayor he had to consider the fact Exeter could lose assessment by the planned move of the car dealer to an Usborne location. He said there was no guarantee that lost assessment would be municipalities across the nation to support his cam- paign. Councillor Jay Campbell said he too was touched by the young man's courage and agreed with Epp's suggestion of sending a letter of encouragement, but the cash contribution was causing him some hesitancy. Epp said the pledge could result in a donation of $262 for the 5,200 miles Fox will attempt to cover in his run. He failed to get a seconder for his motion and Mayor Derry Boyle suggested the matter be brought in at the next meeting, saying it was recovered in the immediate future. "My first duty is to the residents of Exeter," he said, hinting that he may oppose the water extension. Works superintendent Glenn Kells joined the debate to point out that non- residents may also seek sanitary sewer services in the future as well. Both. Councillors Fuller and Cameron indicated the water extension was one of the biggest questions they had to face, although the runner "too quick" for members to absord the implications of Epp's idea. That drew a comment from Councillor Don Cameron, who wondered if the Mayor was asking council to slow down and give their decisions more careful consideration. That tongue-in-cheek question apparently stem- med from Boyle's recent criticism of this year's council being too slow in making up their minds on certain items of business. Epp indicated he would put his motion on the agenda for the next session. latter agreed that it was really up to the PUC to make the decision about the current request.
