TERMS CASH Norm Whiting, Auctioneer Exeter 235-1964 Pool- staff get. latrine detail The South Huron Recreation Board has passed a motion that during swimming pool hours, the pool staff will look after cleaning the public washrooms located just outside the pool facilities, The motion was made after much discussion as to who was responsible for the washroom maintenance—the Recreation Board or the Town of Exeter? Exeter mayor Derry Boyle brought up the issue because the Parks and Recreation Committee received a complaint from an Exeter citizen protesting the lack of sanitary facilities in Riverview Park. The citizen, was tired of park users knocking on his door wanting to use his washroom facilities. The public washrooms used to be open only during pool hours and the staff looked after cleaning them. Now they will be open all year round and will be maintained by the Parks and Recreation department of the town of Exeter when the pool is closed. Boyle wanted to clarify the time when the town of Exeter was responsible for cleaning the washrooms. Exeter reps Don Camerson, Wayne Pearce and Jerry MacLean argued that it should be up to tne town of Exeter to provide and maintain washrooms for Riverview Park. Boyle said that Exeter Council wouldn't go for the idea of paying the Parks and Recreation department to do a job which the pool staff could do. Apparently the whole debate arose from a misunderstanding where it was not clear to the opposed board members that thepool staff would only have to look after the washrooms when the pool was open. Recreation director Ian Smith said that there had been no problems in the past with the current set up. Therefore, the motion which had really been in effect all along was finally passed.. Only two events, hor- semanship and the trail class were held in the ring because of muddy conditions. The balance were held on grass. Secretary Jack Malone said only 11 entries were withdrawn by riders who left during the rain or were afraid of injuries, Some had withdrawn but found they couldn't leave so they re- entered. Malone said he expects the show will become a two-day affair next year. He added, "Expenses in travelling to a show are becoming too high for just one day. In previous years Sarnia followed ours on the Sunday, but that has been changed." One of the big winners of the day was Malone's daughter Joanne, who cleaned up in the 14-to-18 'age group. She won the showmanship 14-to-18 class, senior western pleasure, western riding, youth ac- tivity western pleasure and horsemanship, English equitation and the all-around youth title. Mike De Brouwer of Blenheim won English pleasure, amateur western pleasure and amateur English pleasure. Brother John De Brouwer won the youth activity western pleasure and horsemanship in the 13-and-under division. Allan and Josie .Kotliar of Schomberg had the grand champion gelding and won the three-year-old class and junior western pleasure. Reserve champion was the entry from Maclean and Paisley of Sarnia, which topped the two-year-olds. The pee wee girls are 2 for 2 so far and are showing a lot of promise for a team in only their second season. The pee wee boys 'A' team has won 2 out of their first 3 starts with their one loss due to a bad inning late in the game. The pee wee boys 'B' and bantam boys each started with a loss but I'm sure will be coming up with some wins in the very near future, The St. Peters girls have shown great improvement over last year with 3 wins in 6 starts, and have already surpassed their total wins from last season. The juvenile girls had an excellent start downing Lieury in their first game, but unfortunately came up on the short end of their next meeting against Mt. Carmel in an error-filled game. We have lots of players but can always use more fans so come 'on down to the Park and cheer these teams on!!!
