Theresa Larkin of the Mount Carmel CWL attendee the 60th annual Catholic Women's League Convention at the Canterbury Ina in Sarnia recently. The special speaker Tuesday morning was Rev, Nick Marro of St. Peter's Church Sarnia, He spoke oh the theme "Faith and Family." In the afternoon a panel discussion Was held with Mr. and. Mrs, Charles Oxley, who spoke on the Cursillo Movement, and Mr. and Mrs. Art - McPhee speaking on ,"Marriage Encounter, 1 Wednesday morning the speaker was Mr. Jerry Dank, director of Drug Addiction Research in Sarnia. He spoke on alcoholism, and how to detect drug 'abuse, in the 'qmily and teenagers. ' Mrs. Heleie Regier of Mt. Carmel was elected first vice-presidfnt of the London Diocese cif C.W.L. Also during the afternoon a. resolutionwas passed and a telegram was sent to the Hon. Wiliam Davis, urging that the bill "Health Care Consent Act," be dropped, The convention closed with a banquet on Wednesday evening with. 00 people attending. Speakers at the banquet were Bishop Sherlock of London DiOcese, Mayor AndyBrandtof Sarnia and. Rev, A.L. Mellecke. The June 3 meeting of the Mount Carmel C,W,L. was held at the school gym with 31 ladies attending. An in- vitation was received from St. Marys to attend Pilgrimage Day Sunday July 13. Also received was an in- vitation from BOrnish C.W.L. to attend their June 19 meeting, where they will have a guest speaker. The ladies were reminded about the Chicken Barbeque on Auguest 10. A vote was held in favour of having a bake sale on June 29 after each Mass. The money will be used towards purchasing a C.W.L. banner for the league. The' speaker for the evening was Carla Revington, who spoke on abortion, she showed a film called Does Anyone Care, By MRS, WILLIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD Thirty-five ladies attended the June meeting of the United Ckfurch Women Monday evening, Mrs. David Passmore welcomed everyone, Mrs, Passmore read a poem "Seeds of Goodness.' Mrs. Larry Ballantyne read the Scripture Lesson, A reading "Some Things. Must Be Watered was given by Mrs. Wayne Rowe and Mrs. David Passmore. The offering was received by Mrs. Lorne Passmore and Mrs. Doug Rohde, and prayer by Mrs. Rowe. A reading "A Farmer-Is Many Things" was given by Mrs. Arnold Cann. Mrs. Larry Ballantyne introduced Doug Ellison Of Exeter who spoke on Travel and showed pictures on Hawaii, Jamaica, etc. which were much enjoyed. Mrs. David Passiriore thanked Mr. Ellison. Mrs. Murray Dawson was in charge of the business. The usual was dealt with. Mrs. Rick Parker read a 'letter from our foster child. It war decided. to ,PaCit bale and we were asked to. bring articles in at the September meeting. Final plans were made for the Strawberry Supper June 16, Mrs. John. Pym and Mrs. William Rohde gave a Newsflash from World Outreach group U under the leadership. of Mrs. Jean Allen and Mrs. Ken Dimon, Lunch was served by the hostess Mrs. Glen Stewart. Personals The official Board meeting will be held Wednesday evening June 18 at 8:30 p.m. in the church basement. Several from this com- munity attended the chicken barbecue at Woodham Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Morley of Exeter visited with Mr. and Mrs. William Rohde, Saturday evening, and Sunday evening the Roh- des visited with Mr. and Mrs. David Millar of Exeter. Mr. Millar returned home from St. Joseph's Hospital last Monday after having un- dergone surgery. Pastor Ross and Mrs. Hargreaves were Sunday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hem of Zion. Pastor Hargreaves was the guest speaker at Zion Anniversary. Mr. Paul Schott of Centralia was the minister at Thames Road and Elimville churches. His sermon was "Stop Your Worrying."
