citizens entered objections.
The ministry asked that
the request be denied and
that no buildings be allowed
to be constructed over the
OWRC easement for the
sewer line which runs
through the area.
At a hearing, Thursday,
the Exeter committee of
adjustment denied a request
for a minor variance from
developer Len, Veri in his
proposal to build a mini-mall
in the area behind the stores
between Simpson's Sears
and Gerrard's on Main St.
The firm headed by Veri,
Landrush Inc., proposed to
build a 6,600 square foot mall
behind that area with a
further 800 square foot
building behind
Livingstone's and Simpson's
Sears.
The committee denied the
request on the basis that the
zoning bylaw requiring a 12-
meter rearyard setback was
not being followed.
They noted this would
create a problem for
receiving, shipping and
unloading at the stores and
also that there would be no
tenant parking available.

The Stephen Resource
Centre in Huron Park is now
open once again for the
summer months. Yours
truly will be the only person
manning the office this year,
so it's a good idea to call 228-

make sure I'm in the office.
If you want to leave a

please call the Stephen

We have applied for four
summer grants this year to
provide programs, for
Steplith TewnshiOnd area
youngsters. Three staff will
be hired to run a playground
program in Dashwood this
year running at Dashwood
Community Park.
Huron Park pool will also
be operating, with four staff
providing swimming lessons
and a public swim program.
Both of these grants are
operating under the
Experience '80 program
through the Ministry of
Culture and Recreation and
are under the sponsorship of
Stephen Township.
Through the Summer
Youth Employment
Program, the Optimists of
Stephen and Stephen
Township we have applied
for S P.A.R.K. summer
playground in Huron Park
and also a grant to construct
at Creative Play Area at the
Crediton ball park. These
two grants have not been
given approval from the
Federal Government as yet
but I am optimistic thatthese
projects will also be a part of
our summer program.
Applications are still
rolling in for these positions
so anyone wishing to apply
either as a playground
leader, construction worker
or pool staff,, should do so as
soon as possible as we will be
interviewing within the next
2 or 3 weeks.
